"M-Monoma." Izuku swallowed thickly, fear clear in his face. Seeing this, Monoma's grin only grew. "How dare you tell me what to fucking do, deaf boy?" Monoma approached him slowly, grabbing a fist full of Izuku's shirt. "N-No, I— I'm sorry, I'll just pretend I didn't see anything, I'm sorry, I'm sorry." Izuku pleaded, not even being able to make eye contact with the male.
There were countless amount of times over the past few years where he had to come back home with bruises or injuries somewhere in his body, Izuku would always brush the topic off whenever his mom asked him, but she knew there was something going on at school that Izuku wasn't comfortable talking about. Monoma was the sole reason he hated school. Monoma was the sole reason he hated being deaf. Monoma was the sole reason he wanted to die.
He hadn't ever done anything to blond, yet everything he did seemed to be Monoma's business. He always wondered how Monoma finds satisfaction and contentment from bullying others, especially Izuku. He always wondered how Monoma was able to keep a wide smiling face while knocking Izuku out with a punch, or why he laughs when he had given Izuku a bloody nose from bumping into him. He wondered how he ever slept comfortably every night knowing he had pushed someone so fucking hard that they didn't even feel like living anymore.
Everything about Monoma terrified Izuku. Izuku always tended to avoid the hallways Monoma would walk in. He'd avoid walking the same road home as Monoma. Monoma this. Monoma that. The days he'd managed to successfully avoid Monoma, were the days he could peacefully sleep at night. The days he wouldn't, well, nothing goes well. His mother's concern grows each time, the number of scars leftover increase each time. And his will to live decreases each time.
He felt like he wanted to die, that was for sure, he definitely wanted to put an end to this daily torture. But he knew he couldn't. After all, who would take care of his mother? He was the only thing left for her, on top of that, he resembled his dad, a lot. He never wanted to hurt his mother. He never wanted her alone, either. He needed to live to keep his mother happy. So that's exactly what he did.
"Please— l-let go," Izuku pleaded quietly, to which Monoma scoffed. "You got your hearing aids in today, huh?" He let out a mischievous chuckle as he took another huff of smoke into his mouth from his cigarette. "How many times do I have to tell you to stop trynna be normal so bad?" He asked.
Before Izuku could even comprehend what was happening, the side of his head was slammed against the hard, concrete wall. Izuku grunted in pain, feeling Monoma dig his hands into the poor green haired boy's hair, shoving the side of his face harder against the wall. Izuku heard a small crack come from his hearing aid. The plastic part had cracked. His eyes widened.
"You want to be like us normal people so bad," Monoma smirked, Izuku graoned in pain. "Gah!" Izuku started to hear a small, static like noise in one of his hearing aids. "Monoma- my... my ear, please—"
Monoma chuckled. "What? You don't like 'em?" The blond pointed at Izuku's hearing aids. "I don't either. How about I get rid of them for you?" He pulled both his hearing aids out.
"Hey fellas, look, one of them's broken!" He showed his hearing aids to all of his friends, making all of them break into a laugh. "Now that one of 'em is broken, what's the point of wearing the other?" Monoma laughed.
Izuku shook in fear, not being able to hear anything Monoma had just said. He tried to read his lips, but he just couldn't focus anymore. None of them used sign language, so he couldn't do that either. All Izuku could do was watch the group in front of him fearfully.
No.
No, he can't do that. His mom worked so hard to get enough money to buy those, all while providing for the both of them. He couldn't just let them destroy it like that.
"No," Izuku stood up shakily. "No? Was that a no, Midoriya?" Monoma glared. The green haired boy cleared his throat. "Give me my hearing aids back." He couldn't comprehend anything the blond was saying. He was too nervous to lip read too, so he'll just have to improvise.
"I said no." Monoma yelled, stomping the ground. Izuku felt the slight vibration on the ground, and gulped. "I need it back, my- my mom worked hard to get them for me. Give it back to me!" With that. Izuku punched Monoma.
All of Monoma's friends gasped, then it went dead silent. There was a red mark on Monoma's cheek. The blond grunted for a moment, then glared at Izuku with a look he had never given him before. That's when Izuku knew he had messed up.
Before Izuku could even open his mouth, his cheek was met with Monoma's palm, so hard that it slammed his head against the grassy ground. Izuku let out a sharp gasp as the side of his head met the ground. In one way, he was glad it wasn't concrete. But it still hurt like hell.
His vision grew slightly hazy, his eyes darting up to look at the others laughing at him, well, everyone except for Monoma. Monoma dropped the two hearing aids on a concrete part of the ground, and without no hesitation, he smashed them on the ground, rubbing it in to make sure it'd be damaged. Thankfully, it wasn't that big of a damage, however, they didn't work anymore. Izuku was sure of that.
"Haha! let's see how you can hear now, Midoriya!"
Green eyes shot wide as he watched the scene take place in his hazy vision. Just like that, all of his mom's hard work was down the drain. What the hell was he going to tell her? How would she react? What if she blames herself? Oh no.
"You.. bastard." Izuku muttered quietly. "What was that? What did you call me?" Monoma grabbed a fit full of Izuku's green hair, pulling him up using it. Izuku groaned at the pull, "You- You bastard." He repeated once more. "I fucking hate you." Izuku slowly reached up to grab a handful of Monoma's shirt, about to push him, but the blond reacted before he could.
Monoma manically laughed. "You think that's going to stop me, deaf boy?" He slammed the boy's head against the wall again, just with less force this time. "Pass me a cigarette," The blond held one of his hands out. One of his friends pulled out a cigarette from the box, placing it on his hand. Monoma scoffed. "Light it up, dumbass." The friend mumbled a little 'sorry' and lit it up and reached over to put it between the blond's lips, to which he shook his head. "I'm not gonna smoke it." He grabbed the cigarette.
"Then what are you going to do?" The same friend asks, to which Monoma doesn't answer. He just smirks. "You'll see." He pushed Izuku's sleeve further back, so harsh that he almost rips it out. "This should teach you to mind your fucking business, Midoriya," Monoma muttered, pressing the little up cigarette against Izuku's forearm.
Izuku's skin burned, he let out a yelp, tearing up from how much it hurts. "It hurts, yeah? I hope you know now not to fuckin' mess with me." Monoma smirked. His friends watched in slight shock, frozen in place, unsure of what to do. They certainly didn't like where this was going anymore.
"Monoma! Stop it! it burns— PLEASE!" Izuku yelled out, pleading, tears rolled down his cheeks. Monoma's friends felt uncomfortable at the sight. "Hey, bro, I think you should stop too, he sounds really bad in pain, and—"
Monoma glared at him. "Who the fuck are you to tell me that? We've done much worse with him, and you want to stop NOW?"
Monoma's friends looked at him amused, Izuku could tell a subtle discomfort in their faces, so he pleaded to them as well.
"P-Please help me! It— it hurts!" Izuku grunted, trying to pull his arm away from the blond.
But none of them said anything.
None of them moved.
None of them did anything to help Izuku.
It was like they'd rather watch him suffer than doing the right thing.
A good few more moments of rubbing the cigarette into the poor boy's arm, Monoma flicked the cigarette away.
His wound was circular, the edges were sharp, and the center of the wound appeared to be red and gray. It pained like hell, even after Monoma took it off.
Izuku ended up slumping against the wall, holding his forearm, tears pricking the corners of his eyes as he tried not to scream from the pain. He didn't want attention. He didn't need attention. If Monoma got caught, then it would only get harder for Izuku.
"You'll always be different from us. You'll never fit in. You'll never be normal. You'll never be anything like us." The blond reminded. "You'll always be a burden, a waste of space, You're broken. That's what you are, Midoriya. Broken."
Broken.
Broken.
Broken.
Broken.
You're broken.
Izuku heard another constant ringing in his ear. The voice got louder.
Broken.
BROKEN
BROKEN
BROKEN
Youcan'tbefixedyoucan'tbenormaljustgiveupatthispointwhyareyouevenalive—
Two months.
Two more months, and you'll graduate junior high.
Two more months, and you won't have to deal with any of this anymore.
BROK—
"Izuku! Snap out of it!" Ochako shook his the boy's shoulders. "Izuku?? Izuku, are you okay??" She asked him worriedly when she finally noticed him snapping out of his trance.
"Sor— sorry, I... I was thinking of something." Izuku cleared his throat.
"I could tell, are you okay?" She pulled him into a gentle embrace, rubbing his back because she noticed how ragged his breath was. "Calm down."
Izuku sighed shakily, nodding. He closed his eyes, trying to level his breathing with hers.
"Sorry, Uraraka, what were you asking before?" He put out a smile.
"I asked you if you ever considered hearing aids. But then you ended up spacing out for a few moments after that. Are you okay? What happened?" She asked him, concerned etched in her face.
That's when Izuku realized that he had really, actually told Uraraka that he was deaf. And that was a huge step for Izuku After years of knowing Monoma, him opening up about his disability was really a challenge. After all, you never know. What if Ochako starts acting the same way?
But he's knew that wasn't the case. Even though he had only known the brunette a few months, it was more than enough to tell that she had a good heart. If he trusted her even the slightest bit less than how much he trusted her now, he was sure he'd never tell her about it.
But with that said...
"No, Uraraka." Izuku said. "No, I've never considered hearing aids." He lied. "Oh." Ochako nodded slowly. "Do you think you'll ever get them?"
Izuku looked down. "I... I don't know." He fiddled with his fingers. "None of our other classmates know about this, Not even Aizawa Sensei." He sighed. "I don't even know if I'll ever tell them." Izuku looked at her worriedly.
"Not even Bakugo?" She asked quietly, knowing how close the two of them were. "I can't. I- I don't know how he'll react. I can't have him know. Never."
Ochako looked at him with an understanding smile, pulling him into another embrace. "It's okay." She told him. "Thank you for being honest with me."
Katsuki walked out of the class 1-A dormitory, rubbing his eyes tiredly. He wanted to find that dumbass Deku, who literally skipped class just to check on him. Who the hell does he think he is? Does he think Katsuki's weak or something? Katsuki's a lot of things, but he sure as hell isn't weak.
He asked around from a few people, and found out that both Ochako and Izuku hadn't returned to the dormitory after classes were out. Katsuki's grew a little suspicious of this, and decided to check them out. He didn't trust pink cheeks alone with damn Deku.
Katsuki's was glad he did bother to check. Because now, he had overheard the two friends talking about something Katsuki assumed to be very serious, because he could hear how shaky Izuku's voice was as he spoke.
Katsuki's eyes widened as he listened to their conversation, shocked.
