Izuku's heartbeat was going over a 100 beats per minute as their cabin approached them slowly. Everyone had gotten on already, and it was just the two of them left.
Katsuki looked cool on the outside, Izuku was almost jealous. Because Katsuki wasn't as nervous as he was, he seemed to be taking this lightly, as if they were just friends. Which they were by the way, Izuku just refused to call themselves that.
Katsuki may have seemed cool from the outside, but his palms were sweating uncontrollably. It always tended to happen when he got nervous. He obviously didn't wanna show Izuku how obviously nervous he was, so he shoved his hands in his pockets, rubbing them against himself, trying to stop himself from sweating.
The two sat across from each other. The cabin had huge windows, with its frame being a red color. Just like Katsuki's eyes. Izuku thought. All the cabins were in three colors, red, yellow, or blue, as it was an Allmight themed park.
Izuku sure hoped Katsuki wasn't talking. Because he knew he couldn't look at him without blushing awkwardly. He hated his friends for putting them together. He cleared his throat, he could feel his heart pounding in his chest, and boy, he sure hoped Katsuki couldn't hear it, because he doesn't know how loud it is.
Their cabin slowly made its way up, Izuku could already see a few couples kissing. Gosh, were they gonna do that too? No! They were just friends. Friends don't do that. Why would you even think like that, Izuku? That's stupid. Don't do that.
"Thank fuck, finally away from the extras." Katsuki slouched against his seat, looking out the beautiful sunset to his side.
Woah. Izuku thought to himself. Katsuki looks absolutely gorgeous.
The sunset seemed to perfectly illuminate the blond's face. The shade to light ratio was perfect, a mix of sunset orange and a purpleish blue. Crap, he looked so good.
He found himself spacing out after that.
Come to think of it, why would Katsuki even like him? He couldn't hear, wouldn't he prefer someone can hear? Katsuki was so perfect... wouldn't he want his partner to be perfect as well?
Hah, that's right. Why would it ever be possible? Katsuki would want someone capable enough to understand him. Someone who would listen to him talk, understand him, and speak back just as good as him.
Izuku, well, what was he? He can't listen to him. He can't understand him unless he reads his lips, and can't even speak back right, he literally mixed "cheese" and "trees" together not too long ago.
Katsuki was probably thinking of how stupid he was to mess up like that. He probably thought of how idiotic Izuku is, how ignorant he is... but Izuku knew he was none of those things, or at least, he doesn't consider himself to be. He wanted to show Katsuki he was nothing like that. But how? It's not like he had eyes on the back of his head to make sure he isn't accidentally ignoring anyone. It's not like he could use his hearing aids either. He... couldn't. He can't. He doesn't want it to happen again.
"Haha! Let's see how you can hear now, Midoriya!"
Not again.
"Izuku. I've trying to get your attention for like five minutes now. What the hell happened?" Katsuki raised a brow.
"Huh? Oh, sorry about that. I spaced out." Izuku pushed his hair back.
"...Right, what happened?" Katsuki leaned closer, observing the green-haired boy for a moment.
"Nothing, Kacchan, just drop it." Izuku averted his gaze.
"Y'know, you do that a lot."
"Do what?"
"You look like you're ignoring people on purpose. Then when they finally ask you, you say you spaced out. You never actually look like you have, though." His tone was slightly stern than before.
Izuku gulped. "I don't ignore them, I promise. I just- I don't..."
"Don't what, Izuku? It's been bugging ever since you joined. It's so weird, you don't seem like the type of person to ignore someone, yet here you are, ignoring at least, like, 3 times a day." Katsuki let out a frustrated sigh. "I just wanna know why. Y'know? I don't fucking like it when people ignore me on purpose, it makes me think I'm being looked down on. I hate pity. You better tell me the fucking truth, nerd."
Izuku froze, he didn't know what to say. Actually, what was he supposed to say to that? He pissed Katsuki off, and he can't just tell him that he was deaf because— well, he just can't.
"Kacchan, it's not what you think, I promise. I love you guys, I couldn't possibly ignore any of you. Even though it's only been a few months, You guys mean a lot to me. This is the happiest I've ever been!" Can I trust you? Would you still like me? You won't leave me, will you?
"You sure don't act like it sometimes." Katsuki scoffed, averting his gaze.
Izuku felt his heart break into small pieces, gradually. I wish I could tell you, but I know you would leave me. I need to cherish this as long as possible.
Izuku just stayed quiet after that, not wanting to upset the blond even more. He's ruined it enough.
Honestly, Katsuki was hoping this would be a relaxing end of their little hangout. But of course, he had to ruin it with his dumbass question. He just... didn't get it. Izuku was so fucking nice, caring and sweet... why the hell would he purposefully ignore people, especially his friends? It just doesn't make any fucking sense. Does he actually space out often? Doesn't look like it, because Katsuki has noticed that Izuku focuses on one person at a time. Why is that? Is that just the way he likes to talk? Does he do this to certain people? He's never ignored teachers much. I guess he can't, because, well, they're teachers.
After a long silence, the blond decided to speak up. "Hey, Izuk—" before Katsuki could finish, he felt a tiny droplet of water fall on the bridge of his nose. What the hell?
Ah, it was starting to rain.
"Fuck, I hate rain." Katsuki cursed, watching the droplets of rain fall through the tiny roof opening of the cabin in the Ferris wheel.
"You hate rain?" Izuku asked in a quiet voice.
Alright, Katsuki, don't mess this up. "Yeah, I never liked it, even as a kid." He shrugged, trying to cover his hair with his hands, so it doesn't get wet.
Izuku couldn't help but laugh at that.
"What?" Katsuki scoffed. "What's so funny?"
"Sorry, its just— I've never seen you hair so wet. It doesn't look like you anymore." He burst out laughing. Katsuki's cheeks flushed pink in embarrassment. "Shut the fuck up! Yours isn't any better!" He flipped the shorter male off, so seemed to laugh even harder because of his actions.
"Why do you hate rain so much? It's so pretty when it rains. I love rain." Izuku looked around, watching the Ferris wheel's cabin slowly go down, one by one, people got off.
"It gets so fucking gloomy and wet, it's depressing." Katsuki continued to try and save his already wet hair.
It was their turn to get off. They saw their friends already making a run for it to the parking lot. Izuku grabbed a hold of Katsuki's hand. "C'mon, we gotta catch up to them!"
Izuku's hand felt so soft and warm in Katsuki's.
"Why do you like rain?" Katsuki asked the shorter male as they ran.
When he didn't get an answer, he didn't put too much thought into it, and just nudged Izuku. Izuku answered with a "Huh?"
"Why do you like rain so much?" Katsuki asked curiously. Izuku stared at him for a moment, before flashing a smile, which managed to warm Katsuki's heart up under the cold rain.
"It's because they're perfect. Every drop of rain looks the same, feels the same, and end up with the same fate." Izuku sighed sadly. "How does that make them any good?" Katsuki raised a brow.
"Because the rain doesn't have to go through some of the things we go through, because all raindrops are created equally. The rain drops aren't criticized for the way they look, or the way they act, or for something they don't have, because they're all equal."
"Sometimes I wish we were created like that." Izuku mumbled quietly.
Katsuki had never thought about rain that way. But he sure was greatful to gain unique insight like that.
That's right... they're all perfect. They're all the same. Each drop is the same.
"That doesn't give me a reason to like it." Katsuki answered. "And why's that?"
"I just don't know what the hell is the point of liking something that's not different. It would all be the same. Bland and boring. It's just stupid. Isn't that how we are made? Each person is made to be different from the other. Because if we were all perfect and the exact same like that, then there's nothing to like about it." Katsuki explained.
Izuku was quiet for a moment, taking in what Katsuki had just said.
"Is that why you hate rain?" Izuku asked quietly.
"No, it looks sad and ugly under the rain." Katsuki scoffed.
"Well, probably, yes, but the way I see it... if you want something as beautiful as a rainbow... you need rain." Izuku smiled.
And that was it for Katsuki, that smile... that was enough to make his heart go haywire. Rainbows. For a rainbow, you need rain. Izuku was the rainbow to his rain, in a way. Izuku's sweet heart shined just as bright and beautiful as one.
The way Izuku looked at the rain was so... beautiful. His expression was filled with wonder appreciation... it was a sight.
Katsuki looked the same way as well, except, he wasn't looking at the rain.
He was looking at Izuku.
"You- you wanna go on my bike?" Katsuki asked, suddenly, he felt his throat go dry.
"What? You have a bike?"
"Yeah- I recently got my full license." Katsuki scratched the back of his neck.
"Yes." Izuku didn't even hesitate.
When Katsuki was about to hand him a helmet, Izuku refused. "Do we have to? It would be so much fun without one. Plus, the ride only takes like, 10 minutes."
Katsuki immediately shook his head, "It's a safety precaution, dumbass. I can't let you do that." He sighed. Izuku didn't seem to want to give up. "Please? I promise, it feels so good with the wind in your hair."
"You won't be worrying about how the wind feels in your hair when you fucking get into a crash." Katsuki huffed. Izuku sighed. "I trust you, Kacchan. I know you'll keep us safe."
Katsuki hesitated, but before he could respond, Mina stole his helmet. "Whoops! My bad! You might have to get it when you get to U.A!" She giggled before getting into the car. (Please DO NOT do this lmao, always ride with your helmet on)
"Raccoon eyes! Give me my helmet back!" Katsuki yelled. "No! Get it back when you get to U.A! And my smokey eye look don't make me look like a raccoon!"
And there Katsuki was, driving as carefully as possible, making sure to focus on the road, sighing in defeat, watching a few water droplets drip from his drenched hair.
One thing he didn't regret though, was the fact that Izuku had his arms wrapped tight around his waist. It made his heart skip more beats than it should.
In his side-view mirror, he noticed a faint rainbow appear as the dark clouds slowly move away from the sun. A rainbow.
If you want something as beautiful as a rainbow... you need rain.
Katsuki's eyes then drifted off to the greenette behind him, Who seemed to be looking around at the moment. He let out a slight smirk.
"There's that rainbow you told me about, nerd."
Izuku luckily caught Katsuki speaking because of the side-view mirror. "Yeah! Isn't it beautiful?"
Katsuki took one long glance at Izuku. "It definitely is."
