Night – Zuhra’s Room
Zuhra sat on her bed, slowly pulling off her scarf. She stared at her diary and the old WhatsApp message Kamal had once sent her. A message she never deleted — it was still there.
She picked up the event flyer from the Open Mic night, the one that listed the names of the performers. Her eyes landed on his:
> Name: Kamal Rauf Gera
Presentation: Spoken Word – “Your Eyes and Voice Built My Dream”
Her eyes welled with tears — reading his name felt like someone had spoken the words of her soul out loud.
Zuhra (in her thoughts):
"Kamal… so that’s it, Kamal. Even your name now makes my heart race."
She placed her hand over her chest, as if trying to quiet the storm inside. The ache of not seeing him hadn’t faded, but now there was no doubt left:
She had truly started falling for him.
At the University – Corridor
The next morning, Zuhra walked down the university hallway with her books in hand, occasionally glancing around — hoping to catch a glimpse of Kamal. But he wasn’t there.
Then a girl approached her.
Girl (with a smile):
"Did you go to Open Mic yesterday? That guy Kamal… his performance was amazing."
Zuhra closed her eyes briefly — hearing his name from someone else felt like a breeze softly brushing her heart.
Zuhra (with a soft smile):
"Yeah… I heard him. I won’t forget it."
At Home – Sitting Room
Usman and John sat quietly by the doorway, watching as Brigadier Imran flipped through some documents. They exchanged looks — guilt written in their eyes, like they were hiding something.
John (whispering):
"If they keep meeting… like this… one day he’ll find out."
Usman:
"And when he does — if he learns we knew — it’ll be like walking into fire ourselves."
At Kamal’s House
Kamal was still recovering. He limped out of his room, one foot swollen. He opened his own diary and wrote:
“If I ever see you again, it’ll be in a dream — or if God wills it, somewhere with no fear, no law, no John and no Usman.”
Night – Zuhra’s Room
She couldn’t sleep. She opened her laptop and typed in her notes:
“Kamal Rauf Gera — I can’t ask about you, but if your heart is anything like mine, you’ll return. And I will wait.”
