When I looked up, Adam was standing there—completely unexpected.
Seizing my stunned silence, he slid his card to the cashier without hesitation.
"Use mine."
After paying, his eyes swept over me, disapproval tightening his features.
"You know you can't handle alcohol. What were you thinking, going out drinking? Who's supposed to take care of you if you get wasted?"
His hand reached out to steady me, but I jerked back, putting distance between us.
"I don't need your help."
Adam sighed as I wobbled, shaking his head.
"I'm just worried about you. Let me get you home."
The irony was almost laughable.
This was the same man who'd once ordered me to drink for Lily's sake. Now he was suddenly concerned about my safety?
For a second, I didn't recognize him.
When he stepped closer, I retreated again.
"I meant what I said. We're done."
His frown deepened at my coldness.
"Come on, don't make this harder than it has to be. You're being unreasonable."
Unreasonable? Seriously?
I almost laughed. His ego was truly something else.
When I didn't respond, he seemed to realize how harsh he sounded. His voice softened instantly.
"Rachel, I swear, there's nothing going on with Lily."
"And that video? It was just to piss you off. I wasn't thinking straight."
Pathetic excuses.
I'd seen the way he doted on her—the smiles, the attention, the way he bent over backward for her.
That kind of devotion? That was supposed to be mine.
But he didn't even realize it. Or maybe he just didn't care.
Either way, it didn't matter now.
I shook my head.
"Save it. We're already div—"
His hand clamped around my wrist, cutting me off.
The fury in his eyes sent a chill down my spine.
After a long, tense silence, his voice dropped low.
"Let me make one thing clear. I will never divorce you."
Before I could react, he scooped me up, ignoring my protests.
"Put me down!"
But the alcohol dragged me under, and everything went black.
When I woke up, I was in my apartment—my real one.
And Adam, of all people, was slumped in a chair beside the bed, watching me.
My slight movement startled him awake.
"Rachel."
I scrambled to piece together last night, but my memory was foggy.
Seeing him here only made my skin crawl.
I turned away, voice icy.
"Get out."
His fingers gripped my chin, forcing me to meet his gaze.
"This isn't your home. Ours is. And you're coming back."
Home? That place stopped being mine a long time ago.
Maybe the second I signed that marriage contract. Maybe the day I went to prison.
Either way, it wasn't mine anymore.
I yanked my face free and grabbed my phone.
"Security? There's an intruder in my apartment."
Adam shot to his feet, jaw clenched.
"After everything we've been through? You'll come back. I know you will."
