Lisa Manoban never asked for this life.
She worked hard, taking whatever job she could to support herself and her wife, Nami. They had little—a one-bedroom apartment, barely enough money to keep food on the table—but they had each other. And that had always been enough.
Until Jennie Kim came into her life.
Lisa had taken the job out of desperation. The paycheck was too good to refuse, and Nami had just lost her job. Bills were piling up, and Lisa was willing to endure anything to keep their tiny world from crumbling. But she had underestimated Jennie Kim.
The first time Lisa met Jennie, she had been warned. The other employees whispered about her—about how ruthless she was, how untouchable. She wasn't just rich; she was powerful. The kind of woman who could destroy someone's life with a single call. Lisa had laughed it off then, thinking they were exaggerating.
She realized soon enough that they weren't.
Jennie was cold, calculating, and relentless. Lisa felt it from the start—the way Jennie's gaze followed her, the way she always found reasons to summon Lisa into her office. The way she smirked when Lisa flinched under her stare. At first, Lisa had dismissed it as paranoia.
Then came the gifts.
A new phone. Jewelry. An expensive coat left at her desk. Lisa returned them all, only for them to be replaced the next day with something grander. And when she tried to confront Jennie, the woman had only laughed, leaning in close enough that Lisa could feel her breath against her skin.
"You work for me. You belong to me."
Lisa's hands clenched into fists. "I'm married."
Jennie tilted her head, unconcerned. "So?"
Lisa had never been more terrified in her life.
She started coming home later, dreading the moment she had to step into that office again. Nami noticed.
"You look exhausted, baby," Nami murmured one night, fingers brushing through Lisa's hair. "Are they overworking you?"
Lisa forced a smile. "Just a little stress. Nothing I can't handle."
But it was a lie. Because Jennie wasn't just a problem at work. Jennie was everywhere.
One night, Lisa caught a black car parked outside their apartment. The next morning, she found a bouquet of white roses at their door—no note, no name, but she knew. Jennie wasn't just watching her. She was watching them.
Lisa tried to quit.
"You can't," Jennie said simply, sipping her wine as she leaned back in her chair. "You have debts. That apartment you love so much? I own it. That hospital your wife goes to? I fund it. That little coffee shop she likes? I can shut it down with a single call."
Lisa's blood ran cold. "You're lying."
Jennie smirked. "Try me."
Lisa wanted to fight. She wanted to scream, to tell Jennie she would never give in. But then she thought of Nami, of their fragile life, and she felt the fight drain out of her.
Jennie reached out, tracing a finger along Lisa's jaw. "You'll understand soon enough. I always get what I want."
Lisa shuddered.
Jennie wanted her.
And Jennie never lost.
Weeks passed, and Lisa lived in a constant state of fear. She tried to pretend everything was fine, but Nami wasn't stupid.
"Lisa, talk to me," Nami whispered one night, holding Lisa's face between her hands. "I know something's wrong. I can see it in your eyes."
Lisa wanted to tell her. She wanted to beg Nami to run, to disappear before Jennie could sink her claws into their lives completely. But before she could say a word, her phone buzzed.
A message from an unknown number.
A photo.
Of Nami.
Sitting alone at a café.
Lisa's heart stopped.
The message beneath it was simple.
You know what to do.
Lisa clenched her jaw, swallowing back the sob that threatened to escape. She looked at Nami, her beautiful, innocent Nami, and she knew.
She had already lost.
The next morning, Lisa went to work with a decision made. She walked into Jennie's office without knocking, slamming the door behind her. Jennie barely looked up from her desk, a smirk playing on her lips.
"You've finally come to your senses."
Lisa's hands curled into fists. "Leave her alone."
Jennie rose from her chair, stepping closer until Lisa was backed against the wall. "I told you before, Lisa. She doesn't matter. She never did."
Lisa's breath hitched as Jennie cupped her chin, tilting her face up. "You belong to me. The sooner you accept that, the easier this will be."
Lisa closed her eyes, shaking with rage, with helplessness.
Jennie leaned in, lips brushing against Lisa's ear. "Say it. Say you're mine."
Lisa forced the words out, barely more than a whisper. "I'm yours."
Jennie smiled, victorious. "Good girl."
Lisa played her part. She stayed by Jennie's side, followed her orders, let Jennie mark her as hers. But in the dead of night, when Jennie was asleep beside her, Lisa planned.
She had been weak before. She had let Jennie win.
But Lisa had something Jennie didn't.
Time.
Lisa studied Jennie, memorized her routines, her weaknesses. She found cracks in Jennie's armor, moments of hesitation, fleeting glimpses of something beneath all that ice.
And then one night, Lisa whispered, "Why do you want me?"
Jennie didn't answer at first. But then, barely above a whisper, she said, "Because I can't lose you."
Lisa's heart twisted. She had expected obsession, possession—but not this. Not something so raw, so vulnerable. And she hated that it made her hesitate.
Weeks turned into months. Lisa learned how to navigate Jennie's world, how to manipulate the woman who had trapped her. But along the way, something shifted. Lisa saw the loneliness in Jennie's eyes, the fear buried beneath the arrogance.
Jennie had never wanted to destroy Lisa.
She had just been too afraid to ask Lisa to stay.
Lisa saw it now—the desperation in Jennie's grip, the way her voice softened when she thought Lisa was asleep. And for the first time, Lisa wondered if there was another way.
"You don't have to own me," Lisa murmured one night. "You just have to love me."
Jennie stilled. Lisa felt her tremble, just slightly, before Jennie pulled her closer, burying her face against Lisa's neck.
Lisa had spent so long fighting Jennie. She never realized Jennie had been fighting herself.
And maybe, just maybe, Lisa could help her win.
