It was a dismally cool and windy night.
Y/N was in her bedroom after she finished up her dinner. She was sitting there with her book in her hands and wearing her reading glasses, she flipped the page of the book.
Her mind was engrossed in the story as her mind created her imagination based on the text.
The thing she didn't hear was her girlfriend coming into the bedroom while rubbing her hands together. She was feeling chilly after putting the dishes in the dishwasher. Even though she was wearing one of Y/N's hoodies, she was sensitive to cold weather.
Coming up on the bed, she scooted closer to Y/N and stared at her, saying, "Love?"
Y/N didn't lift her head and replied with a coherent hum. Her girlfriend balled her fists and nudged her shoulder lightly, wanting her to look up for once.
Y/N sighed as she finally looked up after the constant bugging and asked, "What happened, Joohyun?"
"I'm cold, "Irene replied with a small voice while trying to warm herself up with her small hands.
Y/N being the person with utter love and tenderness for her girl, uncrossed her legs and patted down her lap, saying, "Come here."
Irene was quick to obey and instantly sat on her lap as Y/N trapped her between her legs and hugged her from behind.
"Feeling better?" Y/N asked as she brushed her fingers through her hair.
Irene let out a hum of appreciation and found herself melting in Y/N's warm embrace. She leaned her head back on Y/N's right shoulder and smiled slightly. She watched Y/N picking up her book again and holding it in one hand as her other hand was holding onto Irene's, trying to warm her up.
With just a simple unconscious act, Irene felt her heart flutter inside with immense love for the girl. She leaned back a little to gaze at her girlfriend's side profile. Irene loved the face when Y/N was concentrated.
She knew how Y/N's eyes would be glaring at the thing she was focused on and her eyebrows would slightly frown. Her lips would be sealed close and her jaw clenched tightly.
Smiling as to how much she knew and loved Y/N, Irene pressed her lips on Y/N's cheek and snuggled close in her embrace, nestling her head in the crook of her neck.
Irene lifted their intertwined hand and started to fiddle with Y/N's fingers while finding herself deeply pondering on something.
That something was their relationship.
Irene was always fascinated by Y/N's outgoing nature. She remembered the first time they met at a mutual event. Irene was there with her group members and Y/N was with her colleagues. It was the night when Y/N casually approached Red Velvet, conveying how much of a fan she was.
For the first time in her life, Irene found a striking personality, a person who had an immense effect on her. The simple smile of Y/N's could make Irene fall for her even more than before. It was an amazing concept for her.
Irene always appreciated a person who surely knew how to express their deep feelings. A person with whom she could talk all night about her perspective and emotions. Share intellects and delight in discussing big-picture ideas and heady topics.
And Y/N was the first one to make her feel so.
Y/N was an inquisitive person and she helped Irene through her shell of loneliness and introversion. Y/N's social leadership benefitted Irene to meet new friends that she was normally too shy to approach.
So, it didn't take any time for both of them to find their homes in each other. Y/N was the first one to confess and Irene instantly replied with her agreement. Saying how she felt the same for her.
However, they had been with each other for over a year now. Irene didn't know why Y/N loved her in the first place.
She never thought about it.
"Love?" Irene spoke up.
Y/N, who was still enthralled in her book, said, "Hmm?"
"Why do you love me?"
Y/N lifted her eyes from her book and turned her head to look at Irene, who was already looking at her with solemn expressions.
"So, you want to have a deep conversation in the middle of a robbery?" Y/N asked while raising one of her eyebrows.
Irene scrunched up her eyebrows and questioned, "Robbery?"
At Irene's cluelessness, Y/N stifled a laugh and bookmarked her page as she kept the book away. She pulled off her glasses and kept them on her bedside table as she turned to look at Irene who was watching every action of hers, intently.
Y/N wrapped both of her arms around Irene and gave her small frame a tight squeeze, earning a sigh from Irene. She knew how much Irene loved her hugs. Her warm hugs.
Y/N nestled her head in the crook of Irene's neck as she brushed the tip of her nose on her skin. Irene giggled at her action as she inclined her head to the side, exposing her skin. Y/N pressed a soft kiss on the juncture of her neck and shoulder with a smile on her lips.
"You're diverting from the question, Y/N, "Irene said as she whimpered a little when Y/N again pressed a kiss on the same spot.
"Sorry, "Y/N said in between her kisses. "You're irresistible."
Irene had to slap her arm to make Y/N listen to her.
"Okay! Okay! I won't, "Y/N said as she pulled away and tightly hugged her again while swaying a little to the sides.
"What was your question again?" Y/N asked, rubbing her cheek against Irene's.
"Why do you love me?" Irene repeated. "I know that we had a mutual attraction towards each other, but I don't know your side of this."
Y/N let out a small chuckle and she replied, "You were a mystery to me when I first met you."
"Me? A mystery?" Irene asked.
Y/N nodded, continuing, "Yeah, a mystery, sweetheart. You were so quiet and introverted that I became curious about you. I was determined to find out more and more about you. You intrigued me like nobody else."
Irene could feel a blush spreading across her face as she bit her lower lip to stop herself from smiling bashfully.
"The other reason is you are a calm person. I'm not. Your precision in making decisions for me made me like you. You helped me with my emotional growth. When I struggled with my own overthinking, you held me and told me that everything will be okay. When I felt like nothing was going to work, you told me that you will be there for me. You accepted me as nobody did before, Joohyun."
The warm color of red started to fill in her heart as she found herself on the brink of crying. She felt swamped by the love she had for Y/N. She didn't know Y/N thought so profoundly about her.
Y/N could feel the stillness in Irene's demeanor as she pressed a kiss on the side of her head and held her close, conveying that she would never let her go.
"I love you for being the person you are, Joohyun. I love you because you make me a better person. I love you because I don't know what I'd do without you, "Y/N's words were quiet and firm, plucking the strings of Irene's heart.
A lone tear escaped her eyes out of happiness. She felt Y/N turning her around in her embrace and cupping her face with her warm hands.
"You made me want to love you so hard that you will not feel with anybody else, "Y/N said as she wiped the tear with her thumb, "I love you, Bae Joohyun. I love you the way I have never before."
Irene looked up and saw Y/N giving her a smile with eyes that held nothing but love for her. She leaned in and pressed her lips against Y/N's, lacking words to express the feeling she felt at the moment.
Y/N returned the kiss with the same passion as she held her nape. The kiss was deep and appreciative. Arms around each other as subtle caresses were very much welcomed.
Pulling apart after a few seconds, Irene rested her head against Y/N's, sniffling out loud and then a laugh followed.
"You make me cry every time we have some deep conversations, "Irene said as she wiped her tears with the back of her palm.
Y/N chuckled and kissed her forehead, murmuring against it, "I love you and will love you forever."
Irene closed her eyes as she felt her warm lips on her forehead and replied, "I love you too, Y/N. So very much."
