Day 54.
Y/N crossed the date on the calendar as she picked up her wine glass on her bedside table. She sighed and sat down on the edge of the bed, taking a sip of her wine as she turned her head to see the photo album that was scattered on the bed.
The album of her wedding, with the love of her life. From 5 years ago.
Y/N smiled lopsidedly as she picked up the photo of her and her wife kissing in the exotic location. A place that her beloved wife decided for the wedding.
Y/N ran her thumb over her wife's face, a wistful look in her eyes.
A loud sound of thundering weather outside caused her to look towards the window. She checked the watch on the wall and it was already past midnight.
Picking up her wine glass and herself, she walked out of her bedroom and towards the guest room at the end of the hallway of their apartment.
Quietly turning the doorknob of the door, she entered the room and closed the door behind her. She turned her head around to look at the sleeping figure on the bed. A heart-clenching feeling surfaced through her.
Y/N walked to the side and crouched down to face the woman. She gently caressed her cheek with her thumb pads and tucked a hair strand behind her ear.
With a strained voice, she whispered, "Rosie..."
Y/N hoped that she would wake up and would yell at her for being up so late, but a hopeless feeling hit her like a truck and she realized, again.
"She doesn't remember me."
Averting her eyes away from her wife, Y/N saw the rise and fall of her chest, meaning she was in a deep slumber. She stepped back and sat against the wall behind, watching her wife sleep peacefully.
As she drowned her wine, the pitter-patter of the rain started to get stronger and heavier. Y/N kept her glass away and pulled her knees up against her chest, clutching them for warmth as she reminisced about the day again for the umpteenth time.
She remembered, exactly 60 days ago, when they had a fight over a silly thing as a lie.
Y/N remembered being very angry at her wife, Rosé, for lying to her about something that she doesn't care to remember anymore, and then Rose stormed out of the house.
Y/N remembered waiting for her to come home that night till 1 AM, but to no avail, she came.
Y/N remembered the next day getting a call from the police that they found Rosé's car underwater in the river.
Y/N remembered being horrified by the thought and how she frantically asked if they knew where her wife was, but the police denied it, saying they hadn't found the body yet.
Y/N remembered getting a call from the hospital saying they found someone and wanted her to come for verification.
Y/N remembered getting very happy seeing Rosé alive and smiling.
However, she also remembered Rosé saying, "Do... I know you?"
The doctor told her that Rosé had lost her memories of the past and it could be permanent too.
"We don't know for sure when her memories will come back... It can be gone forever too, "the doctor said.
Since then, Y/N had been cursing herself for fighting over a small thing as a lie. She had been crying over not stopping Rosé from going outside in that terrible weather. She had been feeling guilty over yelling at Rosé for the first time in her life.
"I'm sorry, Rosie... but please remember me. I can't live like this, "Y/N whispered in the night as tears seeped through her eyes while looking at her wife.
Y/N remembered the day she brought her home. Rosé was excited and happy, but she didn't have a clue about what her relationship with Y/N was like.
She simply thought they were best friends and housemates.
Y/N kept everything about their relationship or wedding away from Rosé's reach. She just didn't want Rosé to feel beholden to love her because she did in the past.
She wanted Rosé to remember on her own. She wanted her to remember how much they loved each other, to the core.
But, it had been over a month and Y/N had started to lose hope.
Every night she'd come inside Rosé's bedroom and would sit in front of her, whispering apologies and expressing her desperation to remember, and Rosé was all but listening.
Wiping her tears, Y/N stood up and went out of the bedroom with a last glance over her shoulder. She knew she wouldn't be able to sleep, however, she didn't have anything to do other than that.

The next morning.
As always, Y/N came down all showered and ready in her suit to go to the office. She walked into the kitchen and saw Rosé sitting there with her cereals and phone in her hand.
As always.
Gulping the heavy feeling in her heart, Y/N sat on the chair in front of her and Rosé looked up from her phone with a smile.
"G'morning, housemate! Did you sleep well?"
A question Rosé would ask every day.
Y/N nodded without looking up and murmured, "Morning. Did you sleep well?"
"Oh, I slept like a baby. I can't get over how comfortable my bed is, Y/N, "Rosé said and Y/N's heart broke a little.
Ever since they got married, Rosé hadn't called her by her name. But, listening to her calling by her name, Y/N wanted to break down effortlessly.
"Yeah, you looked— I mean, that's good, "Y/N carefully wrapped up her words, sighing when Rosé didn't hear the stutter.
As Y/N ate her breakfast, an apple, she listened to Rosé gossiping about her day yesterday. Rosé went back to the company she used to work in with Y/N, she wanted to join back soon, wanting to help with rent and bills.
She explained how everything around her felt familiar. How everyone was helpful and understanding of her situation. Rosé was also elated to meet her best friend, Lisa, in the office.
"Lisa told me that you visited me frequently in my office. Is that true?" Rosé asked and all Y/N could do was nod.
She didn't know what else to do other than that.
"Why? If you don't mind me asking, "Rosé's voice was intrigued.
Without any thought, Y/N responded, "Because I missed you."
"Missed me?"
And that's when Y/N realized the slip of her tongue. She looked up immediately with wide eyes and said, "I-I mean, we work in the same company, right? So, I-I would just go around and would check on you too, sometimes. That's it!"
Rosé stared at her, pensively, before shrugging mildly and saying, "Okay, I guess."
Y/N sighed inwardly as she picked up her bag and said, "I'll get going. Feel free to explore the house."
Walking out the door, she heard Rosé, saying, "Have a good day!"
The rest of the day at the office went rather well. Y/N had too many papers and projects to get done. She also had to check on many things and the things that piled up in these last few days.
Because of Rosé, she couldn't get herself to work like before, her mind always wandered to her wife. But, today she decided to give it a start, maybe that would help.
Apparently, it did, because the next thing she knew it was already 7 in the evening.
Y/N packed up her things and took some files with her to complete the work at home. May as well be diverted from Rosé for a while.
Driving through busy street lanes, Y/N reached the apartment. She got her keys out and opened the door before closing it behind, securely.
She saw that the house was out of lights. Rosé didn't switch them on?
Y/N walked in further after removing her shoes and switching on the lights of the apartment. She searched around her apartment and saw no signs of Rosé there.
A piercing feeling set in her heart as she threw her bag away and walked into Rosé's room. As she threw open the door, she found no one.
"No, no, no..."
Checking inside her bathroom, she didn't find Rosé. After going around the whole house, she came and stood in front of her bedroom. The worst feeling settled inside her.
Did she find the memory stash?
Turning the knob, she walked in and saw lights blaring and there was Rosé, sitting on her bed with all the photos, albums, souvenirs, and their wedding rings scattered on it.
Rosé had that grim look on her face as she stared at a photo in her hand, making Y/N gulp as her throat tightened.
"R-Rosé?"
Rosé looked up and asked, "We are married?"
"Rosé—"
"Tell me. Are we married or not?" Rosé's voice was stern.
Y/N hung her head and replied, "Yes. We are."
"How long were you gonna try to keep this from me?" Rosé asked, her voice somewhat agitated.
Y/N looked up and said, "I-I didn't wanna force you."
"To what?"
"To love me. To feel obligated to love me and remember me and treat me as your wife. Because without emotions attached to it... This is all useless, Rosie, "Y/N explained, tears streaming down her face.
"Tomorrow's our wedding anniversary, "Rosé said and Y/N sucked in a sharp breath as she looked away.
This was all hurting her endlessly.
"And I don't remember a thing about us. How does this work, Y/N?" Rosé's voice was starting to tremble at the end.
Y/N heard a few sniffles and followed up with, "We were together for five years and I don't remember a thing, Y/N. How are you going to work with that?"
"I-I will live, Rosie. Just don't leave me, "Y/N said, meeting her wife's tearful eyes.
"You're hurting yourself, Y/N! What if I don't remember anymore? What if I fall in love with someone else?" Rosé asked, letting some tears of hers fall.
Y/N sank to her knees as she bawled. "I don't care! I just want you near me!"
Rosé stood up from the bed and kneeled in front of Y/N, saying, "But, this is not working anymore, Y/N. I don't have a memory of you in my head and I feel... suffocated here."
Y/N instantly looked up at her and asked, "S-Suffocated?"
Rosé nodded, saying, "After seeing all that, I-I don't think I can live here anymore. Without hurting you, at least."
Y/N couldn't believe she was hearing that from Rosé's mouth. Leaving? Leaving the house they bought together after confessing their love to each other.
Leaving the house where they first made love? Leaving the house where she proposed to her?
Y/N grabbed Rosé by her shoulder, shaking her head simultaneously, saying, "No! You're not going to leave your own house, Rosie. This is our house, Rosie. Our home."
"I'm sorry, Y/N. But, I-I can't, "Rosé said, her voice timid.
"What do you mean by you can't?! You can, Rosie! You can!" Y/N shouted, her heart crushing inside as oxygen seemed to disappear slowly.
Rosé slightly pushed her away as Y/N stared at her in disbelief. Was her wife really going to leave her like that? Like nothing happened between them?
"I'm sorry, Y/N. But, I have to go. For my betterment and... yours too, "With those last words said, Rosé, walked out of the bedroom as Y/N clutched at nothing.
She stared at the floor and then let out a hoarse laugh. Y/N fell back as her back hit the edge of the bed and she rested her head on the bed, tears falling continuously.
"For my betterment?" Y/N repeated her words as she chuckled through pain one more time.
"But, I'm nothing without you, Rosie..."
