"Pardon me," Rosé murmured, politely excusing herself from the bustling crowd.
With a gentle smile, she made her way to the balcony of the party hall, seeking solace from the fervor of the festivities. As the cool breeze caressed her warm skin, she let out a contented sigh, feeling her tension ebb away with every passing moment.
The night air was a soothing balm against her skin, and nothing felt more delightful. With every step, the muffled sounds of the boisterous crowd dissipated into the wind. She sauntered towards the railing, the click of her heels resonating against the marble floor. In her hand, a glass of crimson wine swirled, as if it mirrored the dizzying thoughts that twirled in her mind.
Leaning against the broad railing, her gaze was distant, lost in a distant memory. The fruity liquid from her wine glass slid down her throat, numbing her to the world around her. With each quiet sip, she felt the weight of the past recede as if the wine had the power to heal even the deepest of wounds.
As a global ambassador of YSL and a world-renowned soloist, attending lavish parties was second nature to her. She moved with grace and poise, comfortable in the glitz and glamour that surrounded her.
This party was different from all the others she had attended before. It was in her hometown, Australia, where her journey had begun, where everything she had ever achieved had been born. Yet, despite all her accomplishments, it still felt like nothing. The weight of unfulfilled dreams still loomed over her, casting a shadow on even the sweetest of moments.
Lost in thought, Rosé's gaze drifted toward the glowing lights of the town below. The nights here were always a source of solace for her, a respite from the chaos of her busy life. In the stillness of the night, she found a moment to reflect, to ponder over the weighty decisions that lay ahead.
A sudden sound of footsteps behind her caused Rosé to swivel her head around, and she caught sight of a familiar woman with a sigh escaping her lips.
The woman came to an abrupt halt as she noticed Rosé, offering a hasty apology. "I'm sorry. I didn't know you were here," she said, about to turn away. But Rosé interrupted her, urging her to stay. "No, wait. I wanted to talk to you," she said, her voice gentle yet firm.
Silence hung in the air for a few moments before the woman finally spoke up, her voice laced with uncertainty. "Are you sure, Rosé?" she asked, hesitant.
"Positive," Rosé replied, her tone resolute and assured.
The woman approached Rosé hesitantly, standing at a friendly distance beside her. Rosé turned to face her, taking in the sight of her attire. She was dressed in a plain black suit with a crisp white shirt beneath, a combination that brought out the warmth in her dark eyes, earning Rosé's admiration.
Softly, Rosé spoke up, breaking the silence between them. "You look so different, Y/N," she said, her voice carrying a hint of concern. Y/N let out a heavy sigh and turned her head to face the singer. "I can't say the same for you," she replied, her words laced with a mix of emotions.
Rosé's inquisitive gaze prompted a quick response from Y/N. "I mean, I've seen you on TV and in magazines so much that you don't look unfamiliar to me," she said, shrugging and slipping her hands into her pockets.
Rosé nodded in response to Y/N's words, and the silence enveloped them once again. After a while, Rosé broke it with a soft question. "Do you watch me often?" she asked, her voice low and gentle.
Y/N sighed before answering, "Not by choice." Her words hung heavy in the air, conveying a hint of pain and discomfort.
Y/N's words were not cold, yet they managed to pierce through Rosé's heart like an icicle. Y/N noticed the slight flinch in Rosé's expression and quickly apologized. "I'm sorry," she said, her tone softened. "I didn't mean to say it like that."
Rosé let out a dry chuckle as she took the last sip of her wine, then replied, "It's fine. I understand your reaction. I deserve it."
Their eyes met for a brief moment before they both looked away. Y/N fidgeted with the platinum band on her ring finger, a nervous habit born out of anxiety.
Rosé's eyes flicked down to Y/N's hands, drawn to the platinum band. She met Y/N's eyes again and asked, "How's Lisa treating you?"
Rosé's gaze was unwavering as Y/N's eyes darted around nervously, finally landing on the floor. "Rosé," she began, but the singer cut her off. "Don't worry about me, Y/N. Just answer the question honestly," she said, her voice gentle but firm. Y/N hesitated for a moment before taking a deep breath and answering the question.
As Y/N spoke these words, her eyes softened with affection, and a warm smile spread across her face. The tenderness in her voice was unmistakable as if every word was overflowing with the depth of her emotions.
"I can't quite explain it," she continued, "but being with her just feels right. It's like she's the missing piece I didn't even know was missing. She's my constant source of happiness, the one who makes me feel loved and cherished in a way I never thought possible."
Y/N paused, taking a deep breath as she gazed off into the distance, lost in thought. "I think what I love most about her," she finally said, turning back to Rosé, "is that she makes me want to be a better person. She inspires me to be kinder, more patient, and more understanding. And for that, I am eternally grateful."
Rosé's voice was heavy with melancholy as she spoke, "It's good to see you happy with Lisa, Y/N. At least one of us has found happiness in life." Her words conveyed a sense of longing and regret that did not escape Y/N's notice, prompting a concerned frown on her face.
Rosé's eyes lingered on Y/N for a moment before she spoke in a soft tone. "Do you ever think about how things could have been different? How I could have been your wife and we could have been living a happy life together?"
Y/N's gaze wandered, attempting to conceal the tears that were starting to form in the corners of her eyes.
Three years prior, Y/N and Rosé had an unbreakable bond as girlfriends. Rosé was an up-and-coming singer, while Y/N had yet to reach that level of success. Nevertheless, Y/N loved Rosé wholeheartedly and dreamt of marrying her someday. However, as Rosé's stardom grew, she transformed like a thunderstorm in the night sky.
Their relationship became distant, but Y/N did everything in her power to hold on. Sadly, when Rosé cruelly cut the last threads that bound them together, their relationship was beyond repair.
Rosé soared to stardom while Y/N struggled to mend her broken heart. But then, Lisa entered her life and brought with her a warmth and tenderness that Y/N had been longing for. Lisa made her feel cherished and valued, and it wasn't long before Y/N found herself falling deeply in love with her.
Before the party, Y/N's life had fallen into place perfectly. She married the love of her life, Lisa, who was climbing the ladder of success as a model, while Y/N's business thrived. When Lisa invited Y/N to the party, she had no idea that Rosé would also be in attendance, throwing a wrench into the peaceful life she had built.
Y/N had assumed that Rosé was still abroad and was caught off guard when they met at the party. The conversation on the balcony was difficult for both of them, but it seemed to wound Y/N less than it did Rosé, who struggled to keep a smile on her face through the tears in her eyes.
Suddenly, Y/N's attention was diverted from Rosé as she heard the sweet voice of her wife, Lisa. "I'm here, Lisa," she responded with a smile, relieved to see her.
As Lisa came into view, Y/N's face lit up with a smile that could rival the sun. Lisa's timid steps quickened as she rushed towards her beloved, and Rosé couldn't help but notice the pure love radiating from them. Y/N's arms opened wide, inviting Lisa to jump into them, and Rosé felt a twinge of longing for the love she had lost.
"Darling, I thought you left already," Lisa said, wrapping her arms around Y/N and pulling her into a tight embrace. She then leaned back slightly, pouting at Y/N.
Y/N refrained from showing any public display of affection towards Lisa, knowing Rosé was keenly observing their every move.
Lisa's eyes narrowed with concern as she noticed the hesitation in Y/N's demeanor. "Is something wrong?" she asked softly.
Y/N motioned to her side, indicating the presence of someone next to her, and replied, "We have company, Lisa."
Lisa's grip tightened around Y/N's hand as she caught sight of Rosé's pained expression. She turned towards Y/N and faced her fully, her eyes silently asking for an explanation.
Rosé let out a polite chuckle, trying to ease the tension in the air. "Where are my manners? I apologize. I'm--"
But before she could finish, Lisa interjected, her voice dripping with coldness. "I know who you are and who you used to be."
Rosé cast a quick glance at Y/N and asked, "Did you tell her?"
Y/N responded with a solemn nod and replied, "I can't deny my past if I want Lisa to be part of my present and future."
Lisa leaned over and placed a tender kiss on Y/N's cheek, causing a soft smile to spread across both of their faces as they looked at each other.
Lisa met Rosé's gaze head-on and spoke with a calm yet firm voice, "I don't know what led you to leave Y/N, but I am thankful for it. It gave me the chance to have the most precious person in my life."
Y/N's heart swelled with affection as Lisa spoke, and she quickly wrapped her arms around her wife, holding her close. She pressed a tender kiss to Lisa's temple, feeling grateful for the love that radiated from her. Y/N knew she was fortunate to have Lisa in her life, and moments like these only confirmed it.
With a final glance at Rosé, Lisa turned to Y/N and spoke with a soft smile, "I'll be waiting for you at the door, love. Don't be late."
Y/N's smile widened as she gazed lovingly at her wife, "I won't keep you waiting, Lisa."
Their eyes locked as Lisa leaned in, her lips meeting Y/N's in a tender kiss, filled with unspoken promises of love and devotion. After the kiss, Lisa turned and walked back inside, leaving Y/N with a lingering feeling of warmth and contentment.
Rosé watched in agony as Y/N and Lisa shared a tender moment, their love and affection palpable. It was a sight that reminded her of what she had lost, and what she could never have.
Y/N turned to Rosé with a smile and said, "It was wonderful to catch up with you again, Rosé. And please don't mind Lisa, she can be a bit protective of me sometimes."
"I understand, Y/N. You don't have to explain anything. If it were me in her place," Rosé's voice caught in her throat and she took a deep breath before continuing, "I would have done the same thing."
Y/N took a step forward and gently grasped Rosé's left hand, her eyes filled with empathy. "I know this isn't easy for you, and it's not for me either," she said softly. "But I truly hope that one day you find someone who will love you even more than I did."
A rush of emotion overwhelmed Rosé as she struggled to hold back tears. She knew that she had lost something irreplaceable, but the realization hit her harder than ever before. It was a painful reminder that sometimes, we don't appreciate what we have until it's gone.
Y/N was such a kind soul, and Rosé had shattered her heart.
