As Yeji stepped out of her office building, the evening winter air hit her like a ton of bricks. She shuddered and wrapped her coat tightly around herself, trying to find some warmth in the cold. The streetlights flickered on, casting an eerie glow on the deserted sidewalks.
It felt colder than usual tonight as if the very air was infused with a palpable sadness. Yeji couldn't help but feel the weight of the day settling heavily on her shoulders. It had been the worst day at work, with everything that could go wrong, going wrong.
She trudged down the street, the sound of her boots echoing hollowly on the pavement. The barren trees along the road swayed in the icy wind, their branches creaking like old bones. The street was deserted, except for a few lone figures hurrying home, their heads down against the biting wind.
As Yeji walked on, her sadness grew, and tears prickled at the corners of her eyes. The chill of the air seemed to seep into her soul, adding to her misery.
Yeji had the roughest day at work and as she walked towards the subway, she couldn't help but try to inhale and exhale deeply to keep her emotions in check in public.
She stepped onto the subway, the doors closing with a hiss behind her. She squeezed into the packed carriage, the stench of sweat and the heat from the bodies making her feel suffocated. The fluorescent lights flickered overhead, casting a sickly greenish glow over the faces of the other passengers.
The train jolted forward, and Yeji had to grab onto the nearest pole to keep from falling. She closed her eyes and tried to take deep breaths, but it was impossible to shake off the feeling of being trapped in this metal box hurtling through the darkness.
As the subway screeched to a halt at her station, she pushed her way through the throngs of people and burst out onto the street. The cool evening air hit her face like a balm, and she took a deep breath, feeling a little bit free.
She walked down the familiar streets towards her house, the hustle and bustle of the city fading into the distance. The quiet of the residential neighborhood was a welcome change, and Yeji felt her shoulders relax as she walked.
The houses were lit up with warm, golden lights, and the air was filled with the aroma of dinner cooking. Yeji's heart lifted at the thought of going home, of being enveloped in the love and warmth of her family.
However, when Yeji walked into the house, the usual warmth and comfort that enveloped her was nowhere to be found. Instead, she heard the sound of her parents' raised voices coming from the living room.
She hesitated for a moment, listening to their words grow more heated with each passing moment.
Gradually, Yeji felt her frustration building, knowing that this was the last thing she needed after the terrible day she had just endured. Finally, she couldn't take it anymore, and she marched into the room, her voice shaking with anger.
"What is going on here?!" Yeji shouted, her frustration boiling over. "Can't you two just stop fighting for once?!"
Her parents turned to look at her, their faces etched with guilt and shame. But the damage was already done, and Yeji felt tears stinging at the corners of her eyes.
"I can't take this anymore," she cried, turning and fleeing from the room. She ran out of the house, the cool night air hitting her face as she stumbled down the front steps. Her tears blurred her vision, but the only thing that was clear in her mind was the thought of Y/N.
Her girlfriend.
Yeji stumbled down the street, and the first taxi she saw pulled up alongside her. Without a second thought, Yeji ran towards the taxi, her heart pounding with desperation. She flung open the door and collapsed into the backseat, her breath coming in ragged gasps.
"Where to?" the driver asked, turning to look at her in the rearview mirror.
Yeji tried to steady her voice, her words coming out in a choked whisper. "Pineview Apartments," she managed to say, her eyes filling up with fresh tears.
The driver nodded, sensing the distress in her voice. He turned his attention back to the road, leaving Yeji to her thoughts in the backseat.
As they drove, Yeji tried to regain some composure. She sniffled her tears up, not wanting to break down completely in front of the driver. But she was a mess, her body shaking with sobs that she was barely able to hold back.
Finally, they pulled up outside Y/N's apartment building. Yeji fumbled for her wallet, throwing a handful of cash at the driver before flinging open the door and stumbling out onto the sidewalk.
Yeji stood in front of the building as she let a cold shiver run down her spine and then ran up the stairs to X's apartment, her heart pounding in her chest.
She stood in front of the door of Y/N's apartment, her hand hovering uncertainly over the bell. It was late, and she knew that Y/N might already be asleep. She didn't want to disturb her, but the weight of the day was too much to bear alone.
She stared at the apartment number, her thoughts racing.
Should she ring the bell?
What if Y/N was asleep?
What if she was busy with something else?
She didn't want to be a burden, but she needed Y/N more than ever.
Finally, with a deep breath, Yeji pressed the bell, the sound echoing through the quiet hallway. She waited anxiously, her heart pounding in her chest, unsure if Y/N would even answer.
But to her relief, Y/N was there almost instantly, flinging the door open with a look of concern etched on her face.
"Yeji, what's wrong?" Y/N asked, stepping aside to let Yeji in.
Yeji felt the tears pricking at the corners of her eyes, but she tried to hold them back. She didn't want to be a burden, but the sight of Y/N's warm smile and open arms was too much to resist.
"It's just been a really hard day," Yeji managed to say, her voice shaking with emotion.
Y/N didn't ask any more questions, but simply wrapped her arms around Yeji, holding her tight. Yeji felt the warmth of Y/N's embrace seeping into her bones, and she knew that she had made the right decision in coming to her.
After some time there, Y/N took Yeji by the hand and led her into the apartment, guiding her to the living room. She disappeared briefly into the kitchen and returned with a glass of water, placing it in Yeji's hands.
"Here, drink this," she said gently. "Take a deep breath. Everything's going to be okay."
Yeji took a sip of the water, feeling the coolness wash over her parched throat. She looked up at Y/N, who was still standing close, and without a word, Y/N wrapped her arms around Yeji in a tight embrace.
Yeji felt the warmth of Y/N's body, the softness of her touch, and the assurance of her hug. She didn't need words, she just needed Y/N's presence.
As they stood there, Yeji's eyes fell on the dining table, where Y/N's laptop and papers were strewn about. She pulled away from the hug, wiped her tears, and looked at Y/N with concern.
"Are you busy?" Yeji asked, not wanting to add to Y/N's already stressful day.
Y/N looked at Yeji with a small smile, "No, I'm not. It can wait. You're more important."
And at that, Yeji felt a sense of relief flood over her. She knew how important Y/N's work was, but she needed her right now.
"Thank you," Yeji said, her voice soft. She felt her heart warm at Y/N's words, and she hugged her even tighter.
Y/N let out a contented sigh, returning the hug with a smile.
"You always know how to make me feel better," Yeji said, finally pulling away from the embrace.
Y/N reached over and took Yeji's hand in hers, giving it a gentle squeeze, and led her to the bedroom. They sat down together on the bed, with Yeji still sniffling a little and wiping away tears.
Y/N gave her a comforting pat on the back, urging her to talk about what had happened. Yeji took a deep breath and began to rant about her day and how everything had gone wrong.
"It was just a complete mess, Y/N. My boss was being so unreasonable, and nothing was going right. And then when I came home, my parents were fighting again, and it was just too much to handle," Yeji said, her voice filled with frustration.
Y/N listened attentively, letting Yeji vent out all her frustrations. As Yeji talked, Y/N nodded and gave her reassuring touches, letting her know that she was there for her.
As Yeji finished venting, Y/N gave her a gentle smile and reached out to take her hand.
"Yeji, you don't have to go home tonight if you don't want to. You can stay here with me," Y/N said, her voice gentle and reassuring.
Yeji hesitated for a moment, not wanting to impose, but the thought of being alone after such a difficult day was unbearable. She looked up at her girlfriend with grateful eyes.
"Are you sure that's okay, Y/N ?" Yeji asked, her voice laced with uncertainty.
Y/N gave her a reassuring nod, "Of course, Yeji. You're always welcome here."
Yeji felt a wave of relief wash over her, knowing that she wouldn't have to face the night alone. She nodded in agreement and Y/N showed her where she could shower and change.
As Yeji emerged from the bathroom, she was wearing one of Y/N's comfortable shirts and sweatpants. Y/N helped her get into bed, pulling the blankets up around her shoulders.
"Try to get some rest, Yeji. You've had a long day," she said, giving Yeji a gentle kiss on the forehead.
Yeji closed her eyes and felt Y/N's comforting presence beside her. She felt her breathing slow and her body relaxed as she drifted off to sleep, knowing that with Y/N by her side, everything was going to be okay.
As Y/N watched as Yeji's chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm, her face relaxed and peaceful in sleep. She couldn't help but smile at the sight of her girlfriend, knowing that despite the chaos of the day, they were together and safe.
Y/N reached out a hand to gently brush a strand of hair away from Yeji's face, reveling in the softness of her skin.
Her eyes were set on Yeji for quite some time and then Y/N sat up and looked at the clock, she realized with a start that it was already midnight. She gently extricated herself from Yeji's embrace, careful not to wake her, and slipped out of the bed.
She walked towards the dining table, where her laptop and papers were spread out. As she sat down, she let out a deep sigh, knowing that she still had a lot of work to do before she could call it a night.
Y/N was a hard worker, always striving to do her best in everything she did. And while she loved spending time with Yeji, she also knew that her work was important and needed her attention.
Yeji stirred in her sleep, feeling a sense of emptiness beside her. She slowly opened her eyes, expecting to see Y/N lying next to her, but found the bed empty. Confused and disoriented, Yeji sat up in bed, wondering where Y/N had gone.
As she glanced around the room, she noticed that it was still dark outside. She then remembered the events of the previous evening, how she had stormed into Y/N's apartment after a tough day at work, and how Y/N had comforted her, allowing her to spend the night in her bed.
Yeji carefully slipped out of bed. As she walked out of the room, she saw Y/N's silhouette hunched over the table, her eyes glued to the screen.
Yeji tiptoed towards her, her eyes adjusting to the dim light in the room. She stood beside Y/N, watching her work silently, not wanting to disrupt her flow. Yeji could see the fatigue etched on Y/N's face, the dark circles under her eyes revealing how hard she had been working.
Without a word, Yeji reached out and placed a gentle hand on Y/N's shoulder, causing her to look up. Y/N's eyes lit up with surprise and joy as she saw Yeji standing there.
"Hey, you're up," Y/N said, with a tired but warm smile.
"I couldn't find you in bed," Yeji replied softly, feeling a little embarrassed.
"I didn't want to wake you up," Y/N explained. "I had some work to finish, so I thought I'd let you sleep a little longer."
Yeji looked at the table full of papers and laptop blaring multiple tabs of work, concern etched on her face. "You had so much work to do, why didn't you tell me? I could've let you work in peace," she said softly.
Y/N looked at Yeji, her eyes full of love and tenderness. "Don't worry about that. You're more important to me than any work. If you need me, I'll always be here for you," she said, her eyes filled with love and reassurance.
"You're too good for me," Yeji said, but Y/N shook her head. "No, it's not that. I just know how important it is to be there for you when you need me. And right now, you need me more than any work or deadline ever could."
As those heartfelt words hit the right spot inside Yeji, she stared into Y/N's eyes for a brief moment and then took a deep breath. She could feel her heart pounding against her chest, as she gathered the courage to say what she had been feeling for a long time.
"I love you," Yeji said, her voice barely above a whisper. She looked into Y/N's eyes, hoping that she could see the depth of her feelings reflected in them.
Y/N's eyes widened in surprise, and for a moment she was speechless. But then, a smile slowly spread across her face, and she took Yeji's hands in hers.
"I love you too, Yeji," Y/N said, her voice filled with warmth and sincerity. "I've been waiting for you to say that."
Smiling, Yeji felt a wave of relief wash over her, and tears began to well up in her eyes. She couldn't believe that she had finally said the words that had been burning inside her for so long.
Even though they had only been dating for three months, Yeji knew that she loved Y/N deeply.
Y/N had been there for her through thick and thin and had shown her more kindness and understanding than anyone had ever shown her. Yeji knew that she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Y/N and that this was just the beginning of a beautiful journey together.
A Yeji one. And a fluff one.
