Hwang Yeji, CEO of Hwang Tech, was also known as one of the most strict, rude, and also the person with the shittiest personality ever known to humanity. These were just some of the names that she was called.
However, in the past few months, she went through a complete overhaul. She went through a big change and became a really friendly person. She started smiling a lot more than before and was super nice to everyone, which was not something she used to do often in the past.
The person she was initially forced to marry deserves all the credit because it was through their presence that she began to open up and heal from her troubled past. Her wife played a significant role in this positive transformation.
Yet, Yeji hadn't admitted to herself about it. She hadn't admitted those heart-fluttering feelings and the changes she found in herself. It was yet to happen, unfortunately.
So, it was a normal day at the office.
Yeji was reading the documents that needed her attention and signed them for further procedures. As the day ascended towards the night, her office door suddenly burst open and her secretary came through with a wide-eyed look on her face.
Yeji looked up with a jolt and said, "Jesus, Yuna! You scared me!"
Yuna instantly bowed her head as she answered, "I-I'm sorry, Miss Hwang. I didn't mean to surprise you."
Sighing, Yeji closed the last file in her hand and asked, calmly, "What is it?"
Yuna stood up straight while keeping her eyes down, she replied, "You got an urgent call from the hospital."
"From the hospital?" Yeji furrowed her brows as she stood up slowly.
Yuna nodded and continued, "Yes, Miss Hwang. It was your wife--"
But before Yuna could complete her words, Yeji ran past her as she hurried down her building. She resisted the elevator and ran downstairs as she took her car keys from her driver. Just thinking about her wife being in the hospital scared the hell out of her.
She got in her car and revved the engine as she rushed past the gates and toward the hospital at full speed. While driving, her mind aimlessly wandered toward the questions that resulted in the worse of the answers she could think of.
What would've happened to her? Was it serious? Was it an incurable disease? What if she needs urgent surgery?
While trying to find more relevant questions, she rushed in through the hospital's entrance. Without parking her car properly, she ran to the reception and rammed her fists on the counter, growling, "Where's my wife?! I swear I'll sue you all if something--"
"Yeji!"
Before Yeji could complete her warning, she heard a familiar voice calling her name. Turning around, she saw her long-time friend, Lia, standing with a clipboard in her hand.
She was one of the top doctors in the hospital.
Yeji hurried towards her and held her by the shoulders as she bombarded her with questions.
"Where's Y/N? What happened to her? Is she gonna be okay? Does she--"
"Oh my god, Yeji! Calm down! Nothing happened to Y/N. She's fine now!" Lia said a little loudly over Yeji's voice to get her words through her head.
On the other hand, Yeji went silent as she let the words sink in. "She's... fine?"
Lia nodded with a sigh and said, "Yes, Yeji. She's fine now. She just fainted from exhaustion."
"E-Exhaustion? But, Yuna said..." Yeji trailed off as Lia looked at her face and filled in the blanks.
"You probably ran off without hearing her completely. I called her to tell you. Jesus, Yeji, you really should try being patient."
Yeji looked away from her friend, embarrassed. At that, Lia let out a small laugh as she rested her hand on the CEO's shoulder and said, "Y/N's receiving IV drip. She should be good to go in a few."
"But, why did this happen? I don't understand, "Yeji asked as she pondered over the question herself again.
Did she overlook something?
"Let's talk in Y/N's room. Come on, "Lia said and led as Yeji followed her trail, hoping to see Y/N as soon as possible.
As they entered one of the priciest rooms in the hospital, Yeji immediately rushed to the bed where her wife, Y/N, was unconscious with an IV drip needle attached to the back of her hand. Yeji could see the signs of tiredness on her face as she carefully let her palm rest on Y/N's forehead. She caressed her head as she looked at Y/N wistfully while her heart twisted in her chest.
Even though it was not something of a grave problem, Yeji couldn't help but tear up a little and feel guilty for not taking care of her.
Lia took the clipboard with Y/N's examination details, and said, "Looks like she has low blood sugar, causing her to faint."
Yeji sat on the metal stool beside her bed and held Y/N's hand as she looked at Lia and asked, "Why do you think that happened?"
Lia hummed as she flipped the papers and read the report before answering, "According to the report, I think, most probably, she must've skipped her meals a lot. This causes low blood sugar and eventually, fainting."
Yeji couldn't understand why would Y/N be skipping her meals and often too. She looked at Y/N who looked a bit peaceful now she was lying comfortably on the bed. She carefully raised the hand she was holding and placed a kiss on the back of her palm.
"I'll leave two to it, "Lia said as she smiled softly after looking at her friend.
She had known Yeji for a while now and seeing her transform in front of her-- which at some point Lia thought was impossible-- it was a sight to behold. She was genuinely happy for her friend to change and for good this time.
Yeji sat there beside the bed on the stool for about an hour as she stared at Y/N all along. Her heart came up in her throat as she tried to control the tears for her sake. She couldn't let Y/N see her like that it'd put her more into worry.
It was almost 9'o clock the night when Y/N stirred from her unseriousness. Yeji immediately called Lia to see.
"She's awake!"
Lia rushed by her bed and checked her IV drip bag as she let Y/N wake up completely. After a few moments of mumbling and groaning, Y/N squinted her eyes open and the first thing she was met with was Yeji's worried face staring down at her.
"Y-Yeji?" Y/N asked, her voice a bit weak.
Yeji nodded as she cupped Y/N's cheek and said, "Yes, Y/N. I'm here. Are you feeling okay?"
For a moment, Lia stood there stunned before she shook herself from the trance. She had never heard Yeji speaking so softly and carefully before. It was a surprise, one that she was grateful for.
Y/N rested her elbows on the bed as she tried to sit and Yeji helped her immediately. Lia pressed the button on the remote for the bed for it incline a little. Yeji placed a pillow behind Y/N before she let her rest her head on it.
Y/N sighed as she closed her eyes and then opened them again, feeling better already.
"How did I end up here?" she asked while looking at Lia, who was blaring a flashlight in her eyes to check her.
"You fainted due to exhaustion in your office. Your assistant brought you here and I called up Yeji to come here, "Lia explained as she put away the flashlight and pocketed her hands in her white coat.
Y/N bit her lower lip as she nodded in understanding. Her eyes slowly trailed toward Yeji who was looking at her now with an ineffable expression. Y/N carefully rested her hand over Yeji's and spoke up, "I'm sorry, Yeji. I didn't mean to worry you."
"But you did, "Yeji flatly replied at which Y/N flinched a little and Lia chuckled.
She was the only one who knew the behind-the-scenes.
"I'll prepare the discharge papers, "Lia said and scurried off, leaving the couple behind.
Yeji folded her arms as she continue to pin Y/N with that same expression and Y/N, on the other hand, cowered with guilt. She knew how mad Yeji got if something happened to Y/N, but this time she really didn't know that she was about to faint.
"You are skipping meals behind me?" Yeji spoke out of the blue at which Y/N gave her a wide-eyed look.
"H-How did you--"
"Answer me. Yes or no, "Yeji pressed firmly this time, not in anger but with care.
Y/N heaved a sigh and nodded, "Yeah. But, not that often! I was so busy with the art gallery and all that I forgot to eat in between and then I'd eat dinner with you late at night. So, I guess my food schedule was really broken."
"That's it. You're not working at the gallery anymore, "Yeji said, her voice seeping with professionalism as she just ordered Y/N like any other employee of her company.
"But, Yeji--"
"No. I rest my case, Y/N. You're not going to that gallery anymore. I'll tell Chaeryoung to do everything in your stead. But, you'll not go anywhere. Do I make myself clear?" Yeji asked, her eyes piercing through Y/N, who found it extremely difficult to argue any further, and nodded sadly.
"Okay, "She replied, her voice barely above the whisper.
Instantly after that being said, Lia came in with papers that Yeji signed off. After Y/N changed back into her regular clothes, she thanked Lia for her help and followed Yeji to the car. Y/N could feel that Yeji was still tense after the incident but she was a bit afraid to speak up.
As they reached to the car, Yeji opened the door for Y/N to sit inside. Yeji followed the pursuit and then they drove away from the hospital.
While driving, Y/N saw Yeji's jaw tightening as her grip did on the steering wheel. She was feeling overwhelming emotions all at once and she was trying hard not to show it off in front of her wife.
But, Y/N was fast to pick up and she instantly rested her hand on Yeji's forearm and said, "Pull over, Yeji."
Reluctantly, Yeji did and turned off the engine. None of them said anything as they let everything that was in the air settle for a moment.
And then, Y/N spoke, "Look at me, Yeji."
Yeji turned her head as she looked Y/N straight in the eyes. Y/N inhaled sharply as she saw the look in her eyes. It was the most vulnerable she has ever seen Yeji. Her hands immediately came to cup Yeji's face as she leaned closer and said softly.
"What is it? Tell me."
Yeji's eyes shimmered in the night with the street lights flashing in her eyes as Y/N held her softly, caressing her cheeks with her thumbs.
Yeji exhaled shakily and answered, "I was scared, Y/N."
"Of what? I'm here. With you. I'm alright, Yeji, "Y/N said, assuring her.
"I know you are. But when I heard your name and hospital together in a sentence, I imagined the worst and it scared me, Y/N. I have never been scared in my life before. Not once, "Yeji said, her emotions all over the place.
"Oh, Yeji..." Y/N rested her forehead against Yeji's as the CEO continued.
"And while you were laying on the hospital bed, I came to realize that I can't lose you, Y/N."
Y/N pulled apart a little as her heart thrummed inside. Yeji took Y/N's hands away from her cheek and instead, she rested her hand on Y/N's cheek while staring deeply into her wife's eyes.
"I know this marriage was not one for the records, but gradually... I became habitual of you. You became a part of my daily life and I found myself changing because of you and for you, "Yeji said, her cheeks were blushing red, but she was determined to get this right.
Y/N was just holding her breath as she fisted her hands tightly together. Anticipating.
Taking a deep breath, Yeji finally confessed, "I love you, Y/N. Through and thorough. Will you accept me?"
Y/N let out a breathy laugh and said, "We really didn't do anything in order, did we?"
Yeji smiled as her eyes were now fixated on Y/N's lips, waiting to hear her answer. "We didn't."
"I love you too, Yeji. Deeply and fiercely, "Y/N said and without sparing a moment, Yeji's lips collided with hers in a deep, passionate kiss.
A kiss that held so many meanings.
Yeji's hand came to rest on Y/N's nape as she pulled her closer as much as she could in the car. Her lips parted with a sigh when Y/N's tongue swiped on her lower lip, asking for permission. Yeji happily obliged as she felt a fire burning inside her chest with a deep feeling of love for her wife.
They pulled apart after a few to breathe and rested their foreheads against each other. Yeji was the first one to pull away and she took a good look at her wife's disheveled state, but nonetheless, beautiful to her.
Y/N was smiling ear to ear as she asked, "What?"
Yeji smiled in response and said, "Nothing... my love."
A blush spread across Y/N's features on Yeji's endearment and she interlaced her hand with Yeji's.
"I'll never get tired of hearing you say that, "she shyly said.
And Yeji bravely replied, "Then, I'll call you so every day, my love."
They exchanged a smile that meant nothing but pure trust and love for each other. They both were grateful to meet each other.
