The feeling of love can be a fragile thing. Even though your heart screams for it to be filled with the color red, your head at the same time denies this notion and instead asks for a logical reason: Am I deserving of this love? Is this happening for real? How would I know if this won't be like the last time?
These scary thoughts filled Rosé's head as she stared at the hand that was holding hers tightly. She looked up and watched the one who had the torch that lit her heart up in red with a mix of emotions in her eyes.
"Rosé, how's the trip? I thought this place would be perfect for us," Y/N said, her tone sure, but her gaze soft.
Rosé smiled and nodded her head as she replied with a squeeze of their intertwined hands and said, "Yes, I love it here, Y/N. Thank you for planning this."
Y/N sighed in relief, smiling, "I'm glad. I know you've always loved serenity and what's more serene than nature itself?"
She said gesturing to their surroundings; a long avenue covered with bare Gingko trees. It was a beautiful path and more so amid the winter season. Rosé inhaled the cold and crisp air with a mix of earthy scent as she felt a sense of tranquility settling in.
Her eyes never left Y/N as she was being led by her while she talked about her week and how it went at her office, how her new colleague was a bit eccentric, and how she missed Rosé all week and waited for this day.
However, Rosé, despite tuning into all her talk, couldn't help but zone out a bit as she stared deeply into those obsidian eyes of Y/N's. Those eyes were pure of warmth and affection that made Rosé's heart flutter, but the uncertainty in her mind was so loud that even if she wanted, she couldn't escape it.
Somehow, Y/N was able to notice the flicker of emotions in Rosé's eyes and stopped in between their walk. She sighed heavily and stepped close to Rosé. Cupping her cheek with her hand, she asked, "What is it? You're zoning out again. Is something bothering you?"
It was an amazing concept to Rosé how Y/N was able to detect the subtle changes about her. She thought of all those times when Y/N came to her and comforted her without Rosé even uttering a word. She was always surprised and grateful to Y/N for understanding her even when she had no courage to ask.
Rosé looked away into faraway distance as she tried to find coherent words to speak out her emotions. But all that came out was: "It's not... Well, something's bothering me. But..."
Mere words were simply failing her to convey the depths of the sentiment she was feeling.
Y/N noticed her tentativeness, and she pulled her towards a bench nearby and sat her down. She settled close to Rosé and held her hand in hers, caressing the back of her palm with her thumb as she looked at Rosé with tenderness and said, "You can tell me anything, Rosé. Whatever it is... I'll understand."
Y/N's sense of assurity was a big plus for Rosé. It was always Y/N who was the certain one in their relationship. Confidence was one of the things that Rosé envied and was attracted to.
Letting out a shaky breath, Rosé gathered the courage from her deepest depths and said, "I was thinking about, well, us."
"What about it?"
Rosé looked at her and saw that it was not disappointment that Y/N was conveying through her words, rather, it was understanding. An expression that said: tell me and we'll fix it together.
Rosé hesitated, her gaze searching for the right words. "I've been thinking about how happy this relationship makes me. You've brought me so much joy, more than I ever thought I could have. But... there's a part of me that can't help but feel uneasy. It's the fear of losing this—whatever it is that we have. Some thoughts haunt me, whispers telling me I don't deserve your love. It's a little overwhelming. I want to embrace this moment, to cherish it, but the fear that it could all slip away is hard to ignore."
There was a long pause between them as they let Rosé's words settle in. After a few moments, Y/N let out a soft giggle that made Rosé look at her with perplexity.
"Why... are you laughing?" Rosé was amused, to say the least.
Y/N turned her head to face Rosé and with a smile, she replied, "I'm sorry, but your words struck a chord with me. I was so surprised by how deeply they resonated that I found myself at a loss for words. You captured my feelings perfectly."
Rosé was baffled at her words and asked, "You... feel the same? Why?"
Y/N couldn't help but laugh, her expression brightening. "Why? What kind of question is that? I feel the same! I deal with my insecurities, and being with you gives me a sense of hope and happiness that's been missing for a while. Your smile, your voice, your words—they all make my heart flutter. But there's this tiny voice in my head that stops me from fully savoring it all too."
For a moment, Rosé stared with a flabbergasted expression at Y/N as she silently watched her smiling and chuckling. To Rosé, this felt like a foreign concept. Y/N felt the same? That was something she thought she wouldn't hear ever.
To Rosé, Y/N's confidence appeared so flawlessly crafted that it seemed unimaginable for her to experience any insecurities. Yes, she may have had concerns, but insecurity was the furthest thing from what Rosé could perceive. And yet, here they were, navigating this unexpected reality.
Suddenly, Rosé caught sight of Y/N leaning closer, her gaze piercing into her soul. A deep blush spread across Rosé's face as her heart thudded loudly against her ribcage. She quickly looked away, unable to face the adoration in Y/N's eyes, all while swallowing the rush of excitement swelling inside her.
"...Do you know how fast my heart beats whenever I'm with you?" Y/N said in a soft voice.
This prompted Rosé to look back at Y/N, and she realized her ears were tinted a dark red as she expressed her feelings with such sincerity, reflecting exactly what Rosé was experiencing.
"Every time I'm with you, I can imagine my whole future, but somewhere the fear of losing all of this settles in, "Y/N confessed, tightening the hold of her hand in hers.
"So, what do you do then?" Rosé asked, curious as her eyes searched a home within those warm obsidian eyes.
With a bright smile, Y/N leaned closer, her voice low and comforting. "Then I'll push all those worries away and choose to embrace the moment with you. Being with you is a gift I could never thank God for enough."
As a response, the fiery blush on Rosé's cheeks crept down to her neck, causing her heart to race more than it ever had. She gulped, the heavy lump in her throat tightening as she caught Y/N staring at her lips. However, the tension vanished in an instant when Y/N suddenly stood up—much to Rosé's chagrin—dusting off her pants and reaching out a hand for Rosé to take.
"Let's go. I've reserved a table at your favorite restaurant," Y/N said, but Rosé noticed a slight quaver in her voice.
The moment affected Y/N as much as it did Rosé. Gradually, Rosé took Y/N's hand and stood up, following her lead, yet the memory of what had just passed between them clung to her.
As they made their way to the car, Rosé tightened her grip around Y/N's hand. The brief tension they had shared was so intimate that it left her breathless, even as she contemplated it later.
Soon, they reached their car. As Rosé made her way to the passenger seat door, a gentle tug and push of her shoulder had her trapped between Y/N and the car her breath hitched in her throat when she saw how close Y/N was. The warmth from her body sent chills down Rosé's spine as she saw Y/N's shoulders were heaving rapidly and she was breathing out heavily.
"Y/N, are you okay?" Rosé asked in a soft voice as she was slightly concerned, but when Y/N lifted her head to look at her, the intensity of raw emotions in her eyes took Rosé by surprise.
Her obsidian eyes were wide with mirth swimming in them as her gaze flickered between Rosé's eyes and lips.
"I realized that I'm not patient when it comes to you, "Y/N said, her voice constricted with thick emotions.
Rosé gulped as her lips parted to speak, but all that came out was silence as she wanted this to happen. The kiss. The moment they both have so longed for such a long time.
Rosé's eyes met Y/N's and in a few passing of wordless sentences, Y/N slowly leaned in, raising a tentative hand to cup her nape. Their faces were just an inch away as they shared mingling breaths before Y/N leaned in and hesitantly kissed her lips.
It was like jolting sparks of dopamine shooting through their veins. Rosé sighed as she deepened the kiss with much ferocity and Y/N mirrored it with the same intensity. Rosé's heart raced inside her chest so fast when she felt Y/N's other hand snaking itself around her waist with gentleness and pulling her closer.
Rosé could certainly feel all of Y/N's soft curves and hard planes, not leaving much to the imagination as she smoothly circled her arms around Y/N's shoulders. She pulled apart just to tilt her head to the side as Y/N let out a soft groan in the kiss that made Rosé's knees lose their strength.
Carefully nipping at her lower lip, Y/N asked for Rosé to open her mouth as her tongue entered inside to savor the taste of her even more deeply. Rosé could feel her whole body heat up as she realized that all the doubts and fears she had before vanished without any resistance.
This vulnerable sense of closeness and the kiss filled with nothing but the desire for each other had Rosé realize how deeply had she rooted her trust within Y/N and Y/N was doing nothing but guarding it with all of her.
An overwhelming rush of multiple emotions filled Rosé's throat as she felt Y/N cradling her face with softness and naturally pulled apart. She rested her forehead against Y/N's and heaved deep breaths, matching with Y/N's.
Pulling away, Rosé saw Y/N's face that was flushed red, her lips were swollen with the kiss and her hair was slightly a mess, but she looked stunning in her eyes.
"Is it too early to say that I'm way over the stage of like in our relationship?" Y/N said and that somehow made Rosé's dam of emotions break.
Her eyes which were glistening with tears were now filled and spilled out through the corner of her eyes. Y/N wiped them away and asked, "Was that too early? I'm sorry, I–"
"No, no, it's not like that, "Rosé sniffled in between her tears and she wiped them off with the edge of her sleeves as she said, "I was scared that I was the only one who felt like this... But you saying it first made me burst into tears of happiness."
Y/N beamed with happiness as she said, "Oh, thank god. I thought that maybe I was rushing things..."
Rosé shook her head in denial and leaned in for a hug which Y/N very happily complied with and said, "You're the best thing that has ever happened to me, Y/N."
"And you to me, Rosé, "Y/N said in a whisper as she pressed a kiss on the top of her head.
Rosé smiled brightly but a sudden rush of wind made her shudder and that made Y/N chuckle lightly, "I almost forgot that it was winter because of how hot it was in here."
At that, Rosé laughed as she playfully slapped Y/N's shoulder. Y/N laughed too, mirroring the delight that she felt.
"So, shall we go now? I bet you're hungry, "Y/N said as she pulled apart and opened the door for Rosé.
Rosé nodded in agreement and answered, "Yeah, I'm starving after all the emotional talk."
Y/N chuckled and felt Rosé's hand suddenly tugging her close to her and she planted a soft kiss on her lips, saying, "Thank you, Y/N. I won't forget about this day. Ever."
Y/N kissed her lips again in return and said, "Well, there are a few more hours till this day is actually finished, "she leaned in close to her ear and whispered, "Maybe you'll have something more memorable to remember from tonight?"
At that, Rosé flushed deep red and she pushed Y/N away as she couldn't help but smile at the suggestion and said, "Let's go or we're gonna get late!"
Y/N laughed as she closed the door and sat in her seat, starting the car and driving off to the restaurant.
All Rosé could think of was what would their future be like as she reached for Y/N's hand on the gear console and held it tightly. Y/N smiled in return as she focused back on the road ahead of them.
But Rosé's gaze never strayed from Y/N's face as she slowly came to accept the feeling that was buried somewhere deep in her heart, and this time she wasn't afraid to face it.
