Bang, bang, bang.
The thing was not letting up and Adar must have seen the worry on my face.
"The only way out is through there." I told him, having been looking out the window in the room and it was quite a drop, we had walked to the second floor. "I really didn't miss needing to outrun a creature we know nothing about." I groaned.
That husk bear, it still haunts my thoughts and nightmares, I wake up to it several times still and now the only way out of this is to outrun another of these creatures that we don't know the speed and strength off.... But this time we don't have Andie to shoot it from afar, there is only Adar and I...
I pulled out the walkie talkie, flipping it on but I guess the hospital walls block the signal as there wasn't even the white noise buzzing through it so I shoved it back in the bag.
"We have no choice huh?" Adar ask with a frown. "This reminds me of the backrooms."
"Huh?" I asked, not knowing what those were.
"Nothing.... Just an old online creepy story about glitching out of reality and it having a place where you need to outrun entities through a hospital hallway called 'Level run for your life' or just 'level !' ."
"How nice." I said with a hiss. "Not creepy at all." If he was trying to stress me more he succeeded. "But we both know we will need to run if we want to make it out alive, we've been lucky that for the moment that noise have no yet drawn more in."
"True." He took a deep breather as I checked the gun, I am not proficient enough to be able to shoot something while I ran but better be prepared.
I inhaled an stood next to Adar who stood near the handle, he'll let the thing break in or something.
"Ready?" I asked.
"No."
"Neither am I."
He let the door go and a mass smashed through it, I didn't want to see it or it would etch its look in my mind... And it still did as it smashed down in a pilled.
It was like a dog who's lower jaw had been blasted off by a shotgun, flesh almost slipping off its face like a wrongly fitted mask, there were holes and loose hanging piece of skin flopping around, revealing rotten muscles underneath, several of those slithery tentacles filled the maw, the rotten bone of the lower jaw tied to on of them and as it moved, dragging what remained off its guts on the ground in a wet sloshing... Why did I know it was wet sloshing? Simple..... It had already picked up the chase.
This once upon a time golden lab was our current nightmare.
Adar was faster, he is always faster, leaving me to fall behind.
I could hear my heart beat through my ears as I ran just as fast as for the bear and yet this dog seemed to be faster then that other being was.
I grabbed a discarded stretcher and shoved it away from the wall and in the things way, with the light, illuminating the hall long enough to see it run straight into it, the face flap get caught on a metal part of it and seeing the start of it being ripped off but I have already turned awa-- Only to need to duck a lunging canine again, a fucking second one!
This German Shepard didn't look as mortifying, that octopus like growth of tentacles from the maw and skin separating from the muscle underneath but no loose guts, my sunglasses going flying.
"Fucking therapy dogs!" I yelled, the only reason why there were dogs in a hospital.
I looked ahead to see Adar was gone, left alone with these things and yet I couldn't blame him.
I was almost at the staircase come on.
Missing the first step and having a heart attack because of it kinda forced me in a jump down the flight of stairs to not trip and fall but the impact was still hard, smacking off the wall, Jesus I flew down these stairs.
I round the corner just long enough to see the dogs ram in a mess of breaking bones into the wall and tumbling after me tho all these times neither growled, I know it is still because of the tentacle growths but that just makes them more unsettling.
Still, I tripped down to stair, barely catching myself and slingshot-ing down the second set of stairs as I was holding the railing.
This set was much better then the first tho it did slow me to not jump down it, even if accidentally.
At the bottom I was greeted with just the sight I wanted to see..... A long hallway to the outside, dead dogs behind me and husks having been lured into this very hall because of our noise--Dogs!
I picked up the sprint again as the sloppy dog smacked into the ground next to my feet, praying that none of these husks will be able to grab me.
Since they had been looking towards the outside before I could get passed a few but the dog noises made many turn around and their groans turned others around.
"Shit shit shit shit!" I shoved passed one, tripping in the arms of another which I accidental tackled before pushing up and running.
Lucky me, the hall was not crowded but there was some shoving, my sudden luck didn't abandon me yet as I shoved through to the reception area moments before I was yanked back by my bag.
Without as much as checking, I aimed a swing back, it was not a strong as it could be but I heard the tearing of flesh and breaking of bones and I was let go, tumbling forwards in a dead sprint.
Outside was welcoming-ly cold as I ran to the gate Adar had already passed and waiting anxiously until we met gazes.
I slammed against the entrance and shoved through before he closed it moments before the lab slammed its body in the fencing and spraying us with blood as the husks and other dog filled out of the building.
I quickly dropped my bag when I felt something move and watched the mass of tentacle on it, the German had the whole muzzle missing, so that was the one I smacked.
I pulled out one of the lighters I'd been given and approached the flame to one of them tentacles, it instantly flung itself off the bag and into the snow, I stomped it out and did this to all, I know they can freeze but they can also unfreeze and I don't want these wormy things after us because we didn't kill them now.
I put on my bag again when that was done and finished.
Turning to Adar and saw he had used his shoe laces to pass them through the holes the padlock was one, if it was the keep humans in that would be stupid but these just know how to push and not to pull apart so this is safe.
I looked at the blood on my clothes and his and sighed.
"We should have gone to the one you suggested." I sighed, adrenaline dropping and feeling the bite of the cold.
"I told you so." He said, sounding as shaky as I was.
I squeezed my hands together and looked up at the mob of dead and then at the hospital....
"I'll look for new sunglasses instead." I muttered to myself, this hellhole can keep it, a souvenir from this hellish excursion.
I don't know how Andie can deal with these so calmly....
