It was quite a surprise for myself, that I came out of this alive.
I made my peace that it was my time to go but I guess I wasn't in the snow long enough to not be able to bounce back, I did have to drag my father inside and I walked in, hardly call that a walk but still.
This is why I always take the safer way dammit, once I was lax and almost died.....
"This is disturbing." I said, staring in through the frozen gates and the frozen frozen corpses.
I crouched down, tapping the end of my bat against the frozen tentacled maw of a dog.... Same thing that grew out of that bird but more numerous, I didn't check that bear but it is becoming a trend to have wiggly tentacle filled mouths on infected animals.... Mouth's of humans are filled with bumps only.
I stood up, putting my bat over my shoulder.
"You know, you shouldn't have took this risk, not at all." I glanced back at them, shaking my head.
"You were dy--" "No excuses." I cut Adar off. "I didn't ask this of you so keep that in mind." I turned my head back to the gate. "lets open the gates again, we need to smash the brains before they get to defrost in a few months, I don't want to deal with them when they can move."
I rubbed my eyes with a sigh, I suppose I shouldn't yet be walking around, not fully recovered but I can't take doing nothing.
I put the bat away between my bag's straps and my bag and grabbing the ladle, it was barely round anymore but still of use and would fit easier for the nearer husks. I swung as the muzzle missing dog, the head cracking like ice and a few swings dropped the head off the neck and then I smashed it with my heel, we'll need to burn them when they thaw out but still.
I was grateful to be alive but neither had thought about everything that they should have, maybe it could have been the moment Cody turned on us, could have been the moment I died, they could have died, leaving Jasmine alone, there could have been so many things that went wrong and they almost did.
I kicked around the snow in the yard of the School with a sigh, if Jasmine didn't miscount it should be the 23rd of December today.... I hadn't checked in a while.
"I know I fell somewhere here." I grumbled, unable to find my exact back smack spot and it was almost awing, could the snow just stop falling?!
I had my hands in my pockets, kicking the snow, finally unearthing-- unsnowing? My coat that was ruined, I guess I really wanted to live to get out of there huh?
I crouched down, grabbing my knife and using the back of it to smash the ice, pulling the things I had in its pockets out, the little games I went to get.
the plastic cover still protected them, they were cards, dice games and stuff like that, not the most entertaining I guess but still, humans do die of boredom under circumstances even if it would be hard in this world.
I looked around until I found that new wrapped chess set and the gods were testing me, it was like Arthur pulling out Excalibur.
Nothing I did could get it freed from the ice so I was using the tip of the knife to hit the ice, the smaller tip transferred more force behind it then the back of it, I did end up scratching the board tho.
It was mostly the edges when I pulled it out but still.... Good job Andie, good job....
I sighed, standing with it in my hands and walking back inside.
