We had once again gone around to reapply a coat of spray paint to the outside of the town, still telling people to fuck off if they survived but I knew to the core of my being that humans are really good at ignoring words like these so if any stumble in on us, while being alive, will not go around but come into Rain Point as if I was inviting them inside with a red carpet and fame.
"How the hell did you do that?" I asked as I heard Adar laugh. "You are not a fish Cody." he got the hook stuck in his hand.
"Are you seriously reading that?" He asked while I was flicking through my fishing for noobs book.
"That's how I learnt so deal with it unless you want a hook in your palm until the end of your damned days." Goddammit, why did you leave me with these idiots Jasmine? I would have much preferred going with you and watched Rain Point burn then deal with the three of these people that share three brain cells and Lucy having all three of them all of the time.
"Can't we just cut it out?"
"Sure, do just that." I said with sarcasm. "I'd love to see how far you ge--" I sighed as he just grabbed and yanked it out, making the injury worst then it was. "Good god, hand in water, now."
"Don't tell me you wouldn't have done to same." Lucy said, all of us having been basically crowded around Cody-dude to try to figure out how to fix this.
As embarrassing as it was, my silence being her answer, I would have done the exact same thing as he had.
"I did dislocate my thumb to get out of these." I lifted my wrist with both cuffs wrapped on it. "So yeah..." I rubbed my neck. "I would have."
I felt even more embarrassed as she laughed, nudging me in the ribs.
"You two are getting close." Adar nudged me from the other side with a whisper only I heard.... I shoved him in the river, Cody joining Lucy in laughter.
"Try me burnt chocolate boy."
"Don't start white-ass cracker."
I rolled my eyes and helped him out of the water, luckily, despite the chilly wind still here, all was getting back to normal... As normal as our world can be.
"Get changed, you are all wet."
"Who's fault is that?"
"Don't complain, you started it." I pointed at Cody. "And take him with you, wrap that hand up."
"Why did you shove him in the river?" Lucy asked, lighting a corpse on fire, we were doing a little clean up, so many houses, shops, malls, libraries here would still contain husks, we set out to clean out a few easily accessible places we could think of so that if we went there, no husks would await us.
We were currently outside of a bike shop, that's really good, having transportation that doesn't require fuel or to know how to drive if cars even worked anymore.
For now only I had a bike, technically all could use it but I had used it the most since I found it a while ago.
"Nothing." I bit back, jeez, this shouldn't get me this bothered.
Sure she looks good and all but I don't have time for this, any distraction could cause a lot of trouble for me and everyone, leave any feeling out of the equation.... Every time I didn't I only ended up being hurt, that woman, those boys, that father, that baby, that old grandpa.... Every single time I let myself care I was hurt.
And this girl, those boys, that child, god I wish I was alone still sometimes, I would only need to worry about me, myself and I, not others, I wouldn't need to worry about losing them, them doing something dangerous and me not knowing about them.
So many things to think about, shelter, food, supplies, jobs, husks.
There is so much to do and don't do, multiply that with how many people are here, how much of a danger this world is, what could go wrong, what needs to be thought about, what-- "Andie?" I blinked, my eyes watered so I must how zoned out enough to even stop blinking... Jeez.
"God, sorry I zoned out, were you saying something?" I rubbed my eyes, I shouldn't do this at all, fuck.
"Well yeah, I tried calling your name a few times after you stopped walking but you seemed really lost in your thoughts.... A penny for your thoughts?"
"Just about what Jasmine must be doing." I lied, not wanting her to know what was going on in my mind.
"Hey, she must be alright."
"Oh I know she is, she has much more survival skills then I did at the start of this fuckfest, she went out camping and such, with her father while I? I knew how to clean and set up a microscope, all that's used for is to look at the blood."
"A microscope would be a heavy hitting weapon tho." She joked, mimicking swinging a heavy weight.
"Well I never tried." I shrugged.
"But going back... She'll be back."
"That too I am sure, she is just free spirited I guess? I don't blame her tho, I did the same shitty coup to my father, leaving a note and skipping town."
"He must have been mad."
"Oh he was, I left a shitty Spongebob drawing for him to find, Jasmine at least left a note."
"I'd have beat your ass if you were my child." She shoved with as she laughed at the idea that conjured up.
"I bet he wanted it." I sighed, looking at the sky. "I know all is fine.... I just care too much." I said, not just talking about Jasmine but the rest of me thoughts, the rest of them all... They will drive me to my grave in worry...
