"Because I said so, do not make me put you outside." That was the final words exchanged between my father and I for a hot second, a grin pulled itself across my face. "You'll get to decide when you don't live under my roof."
"Stop fighting you two." I stuck my tongue out towards the lady who sighed, she didn't seem as sad as she should be for her boyfriend's death so maybe he was not that.
"Oy shut it Veronica." I waved her off. "I can fight with however I want. This is a home I built up from nothing so to keep in safe you will do as I say."
"It's Victoria not Veronica and I am not saying we won't listen just don't yell, I barely put him asleep." Dad was done with listening to us, walking away.
"Get the electricity done!" I yelled after him. "And you keep saying 'him' what is his name?"
"I don't know, I don't even know what day it is or what hour."
"....Twentieth of February 2020, ten am, twenty-four minutes." I said, looking at my watch.
"Oh... Euh..."
"So what's the reason for no name?"
"I just don't know what to name him in a world like this."
I shrugged a shoulder.
"Any name is good, I go around calling these things husks and the event the Great Silence because zombie and apocalypse don't feel right for me, too human, I call this place School, anything can be a name if you want it enough."
"I'll think about it."
"Do, I'll call him kick-ass if I get back and you have chose nothing."
"Right, be careful."
"And you don't piss him off, dad's not violent but god does he have a loud opinion."
"I'll keep in mind." She chuckled softly, not as much of an idiot like the blonde stereotype but I haven't seen her out in the 'wild' against husks so I can't say much, I was jealous of her green eyes, mine are boring to me.
Despite probably having a good few years on me she fit in the clothes I brought back for myself, I was not taking risks, I had them burn their clothes too, dad had to use clothes I newly brought back.
I was thinking about finding a sport store, they have sport clothes there and there are things that would be good, like for example those padded arm guards you can buy for sports, it would be a slight hindrance for the husks to bite through tho I don't doubt they'd be able to sink their teeth through it if they want.
I lifted the bolt-cutters, grinning as I put all my strength into it and the lock was snapped and I pushed the gate open.
I took my ladle this time, dad has a crowbar but I didn't see Victoria with a weapon, maybe she left it in the library? Doesn't matter she can swing a bat if needed, anyone that survived to now must have at least the barest of survival instinct and knowledge they acquired in a year.
These husks invaded so fast that most shops and buildings weren't locked and the insides of this building was open too.
I finally opened the weaponry after a while.
"Wow...." I said in awe at the untouched arsenal we had access too, from knifes to guns to rifles.
I walked in, waving my flashlight around, looking at all the things.
I picked up a knife and spun it between my fingers.
"Cutty bitch." I said with a smile before looking at the wall. "Die!" I stabbed it in and the blade sank an inch and a half in the probably not stone wall. "And sharp.... It even has a small sheath, neat!"
I filled my bag with whatever shit I could from the most useless signal flare to having like six rifles under my arms.
I was bringing as much back in one trip as I could and simply threw it over the wall before walking back, I am not letting people get to it.
I did my last back and forth before walking off to the left.
I spotted the car I first broke when I tried attracting the husks away and walked to the apartment building near it and up in it.
I never thought I'd miss the loneliness... And so soon.
I miss it as per se but I know how things would go and what I could and now I have two, three, new elements I have no control over if they ever choose to undermine my choices, they are living beings I can't control and know what they think like my own thoughts.
I kicked the roof door open and stepped out on it, taking a deep breath of the windier air up here.
I walked to the edge and sat behind the little ledge, this was one of the tallest buildings and let me see over the town and the roads leading out of it, at the fields around it, the other towns on the horizon.
I stood and squinted. One of them looked close enough to be able to walk there before sunset.... Should we risk it?
I barely know this town but going to a one that is completely out of our knowledge could be a death wish.
"Then again..." I said out loud. "Sometimes risks are worth the shot."
I stood in silence, deciding soon.
