I sat on the roof near my father, listening to him work, tying cables together and tying them in places in the little lawn windmill.
"We'll need many more too have electricity." He grumbled.
I sat on the side of the building, looking off in the sea of silence, one leg hanging off and the other yet again pulled up and hugged with my chin on my knee.
"It is something.... There are phone charger mini solar panels that exist or garden light solar panels." I said, thinking to my phone... Maybe I should look for a mentioned solar charger, I have so much music downloaded on it.... Music would be nice.
"We'll need to head out soon."
I sighed.
"Dad?"
"What's up brat?"
"Am I a bad person?" I turned my head only to look back at him.
"Why would you ask that?" He rose a brow, I shrugged my shoulder, looking back ahead.
"I just.... Realized some truths that are bothersome...."
"No... You are not a bad person kid." I felt a hand on my shoulder. "You never were and this world can't change that in you."
"I killed humans, I believe humanity has no reason to survive, I act before considering." Seeing her face and 'the woman' added on my wall of the dead in my mind.
"This world is selfish and you need to be too but that doesn't make you a bad person. Actions have consequences but that action can be made for several reasons, from fear, anger, to protect, anything can be behind that action.... Has the action that made you think of this come from hate? Anger?"
"Fear... Acting before what I might fear would happen."
"Then you are not a bad person, you have your reasons, even if shity at times, to do things!"
"...Thanks... I'll bring back more stuff, I'll see you tonight."
"Sure."
I stood and walked away.
"Do not die." I said seriously as I looked back at him fully.
"Could tell you the same thing."
I grinned softly.
"Humanity can perish but I will not."
"You know I will seriously name him little ass kicker like Daryl wanted in the Walking Dead show for Judith." I told Victoria, the little man was sleeping so I took her along, she gotta learn the basic lay out of the city after all.
"Please don't."
"I really don't get why you can't name him."
"Not without him."
I bit my tongue, only having took the ladle along this time.
"I'm sorry, he needed to die."
"I know, with what scribbles you shown us and the proof it is better that he went out while he wasn't yet in pain."
"Right.... But he does need a name, we can't go Birdbox style here and call him Boy."
"I guess we can--" A rustle.
I raised the ladle but how would a husk hide in such a small bush?
A completely black cat walked out of it, looking at us judgingly.
"What are you doing?! It could be infected!" I yanked her back as she tried petting it.
"Does it look injured to you?"
She does have a point.
The cat approached and headbutted my leg.
"I... Guess you are right but we need to be careful the virus could be in its fur, no touching for you especially, lets move on."
"Oh come on Andie." Victoria chuckled as I was debating on what to do currently.
I had shown her around the nearest restaurants, book store, museum, the basics, picking up more cabling and another garden windmill for my father along the way.
And the cat trailed us.
Victoria was a sweetheart, a bit too loving, not seeing the danger it could bring to us, wanting the cat to be brought over the wall while I was opposed to it.
"I am not sure." I repeated. "I take risks but only when it might be worth and this? This is not worth."
"Cats are intelligent, they know to avoid husks I am sure."
I scratched my neck, this is a hard choice with the cat currently playing with my shoelace it pulled loose, it was clearly a pet before and not a stray with how loving it is too humans.
"Climb over, I'll get something."
"Be careful."
"Always." I called back, already walking away.
"Stop fighting!" It was a struggle but in the end the cat ended up in a carrier.
I'll unfortunately will need to quarantine it as I don't want infighting in the School, infighting kills, so I will bring it in but lock it in a room for a week at least and if nothing happens it will be free to roam the School.
"Be nice and stop glaring." I told the cat that seemed mad to be put in the carrier.
I couldn't help the barest of smiles.
Our little group is slowly getting bigger.
No matter if it is not a human that is added to the team.
