"LUCY WE NEED TO MOVE!!!" Adar yelled at me but I refused.
"I AM NOT LEAVING HER BEHIND!!!" I yelled through the tears as another unknown shot came from somewhere, passing through the skull of a zombie.
The group of them had snuck up on the my group, how? I don't know, I really don't... But we were the three to have made it out and through the burnt down town.
With Lexie's injuries we couldn't hurry, only able to keep half a soccer stadium length between us and them and something horrifying was heard approaching.
"Y-you need to leave me... You can't save me." Lexie pleaded tho she clearly didn't want to be left behind, crying hard, her leg had been broken in a freak accident three days earlier and she couldn't walk on her own in addition to the newly gotten bite to it, if we cut it off she'll be fine right? It should work!
"I am sorry."
"ADAR NO!!!" I pushed his gun away as he aimed it at my friends head, I am not losing any more people!! Hugging her against my chest, it is not fair, she was with me since the start, my best friend since dippers.
"LUCY THINK!!!" I looked at him as he shoved me away from here. "THE DEAD ARE APPROACHING AND WE'LL SOON DIE IF WE DON'T MO--" Another one of those mysterious shots came. "--VE, THERE IS SOMEONE OUT THERE TRYING TO FUCKING HELP US FOR SOME GOD KNOWS WHAT REASON!!! I WILL NOT DIE FOR SOME DOOMED GIRL!!! PLEASE THINK ABOUT THIS!!!"
"SHE IS NOT DO--" A third shot came, blood splattering on my face. "D-doomed...." I watched in horror the blood ooze out of my best friends mouth as her throat was shot through.
I met her terrified eyes before they dulled, life leaving her.
"GOD FUCKING DAMMIT!!!" Adar yelled, looking around, trying to pull me from the ground but I couldn't move, so in shock... If that person was trying to help.... Why.... Why Lexie?
My body wanted to shut down, cry for the loss of another person, uncaring for Adar's fear as he let me go.
"GET UP OR I AM LEAVING YOU BEHIND!!! PLEASE LUCY DON'T DO THIS!!!" He pleaded, shaking me, I looked into his tear stained face, something clicking in my mind.
I blinked, Lexie died... But I guess I can't do the same to him, he had been with us almost since the start too, he went through the same pain.
I grabbed his hand and he yanked me up as that terrifying roar echoed through, bodies being thrown around.
In frozen terror I watched the huge grotesque body stumble out of the now really nearing crowd, it was some sort of animal before this virus from hell took over, the jaw was split open much wider then any animal could, hanging until it snapped it close, growths of pulsating flesh on its skull and body, barely any hair left.
Only when I crossed gazes with the beast did the world start turning again, only then did I realize what would happen if I were not about to start running right. Fucking. NOW!!!!
I spun as the creature roared, heavy thumps approaching as I ran after Adar as fast as I could, the boy being several feet ahead of me.
I glanced over my shoulder as the sound of another shot but to my horror the thing just roared up in anger as it was hit, stalling its sprint for a few seconds, looking around with a head shake and taking up its chase after us.
"Fuck!!" I tripped, feeling my hands impact the ground.
"GET THE FUCK UP!!!" Adar ran back, yanking me up as another shot hit the beast, distracting it for long enough to start running again.
The town in front of us seemed so far it was never reachable no matter how fast we ran, hearing the creature gain on us each time before another shot would ring out, giving us much needed room to make distance again but each time it seemed to get even closer.
"DISCARD ALL!!" I yelled, throwing my bag off, pulling at my hip pouch. "DISCARD ALL YOUR WEIGHT!!!"
He did without asking as I dropped my crowbar too, the few seconds this would save were crucial.
I can't die, I don't want to die.
Tears blinded my vision as I tried to wipe them away with my stinging hands, I ignored the pain from them and from my legs that never in their life needed to run this fast.
I heard three quick shots compared to the ones until now, looking ahead where the flashed of light came from.
A child?!!
A blonde girl waved her weapon in the air before she ran to the left, disappearing behind a building.
"FOLLOW THE GIRL!!!" Adar yelled my thoughts.
I took a deep breath, pushing my legs faster, come on, come on, come on!!!!
I caught a lamppost, boomeranging my body around it almost from the speed I was going at, stumbling the way the girl went seeing the jaws of the creature snap as it slid passt us, not ready for the dodge, stumbling as I ran towards the girl who was spotted again, holding the glass doors of an apartment building open for us, waving at us with urgency.
Adar ran in first with me after as she yanked it closed.
I screamed as the beast rammed the door and part of it instantly shattered.
"GO GO GO!!! UP TO THE ROOF!!" The child yelled in fear, running ahead and, before I could even catch my breath, Adar and I were sprinting up the spiraling staircase after her.
This, this was hell compared to running on flat surface, my legs screamed at me in protest but the sound of the creature breaking in and approaching silenced those complaints.
"WAS IT YOU THAT HELPED US?!!" Adar asked through pants.
"JUST KEEP RUNNING!!!" The voice came from much further.
And we were going up and up in a seemingly never ending spiral that just reminded me that my legs, despite pushing them, were slowing and weakening.
But fear was enough to keep going, the creature right behind us.
And as the staircase was lit up with light, with one final push I stumbled out the door to the roof.
I fell forwards, just hurting my hands more and spreading my blood.
I looked over my shoulder as I saw the huge beast, squeezing its body through the door frame, piece of its body torn off as it snapped at me.
I saw a rifle barrel aimed up from behind me at the struggling creature after it pulled itself free and whipped its head around, looking at each person it could, it roared as a flash of light left the barrel and a hole was put through its skull, the huge body stumbling in a groan and collapsing motionless.
I was shaking, watching such a horrid beast that took several shots, finally dead.
"None of you was infected right? Sure hope I didn't risk our lives for nothing." The new voice snapped me out of my thought, the one who saved us with that girl.
