I have took the time to warn everyone of my encounter with the boy I had chased away after I lost my previous group and around where he might be found, I wasn't questioned after a few comments here and there on why I did this.
"A bit higher I'd say." I told Jasmine.
It was getting late but it is an everyday work to get the gathered up husks killed and dragged away from the stone/metal fence walls.
I didn't get why she wore gloves and some sort of leather arm protector until I saw the arrow completely miss the head of the husk trying to reach for us and the string slash across it, the leather there to protect literally and not just some stylish choice.
"I thought I was getting better!"
"You are." I pat her back. "This is just a moving target."
I expected another arrow shot but she whacked it with the bow, it had the form and shape of a traditional bow but made of modern materials, metals, so I shouldn't have been as surprised as I was when the skull was easily broken in.
I hopped the fencing easily and grabbed the leg of the dead and dragged it away a bit before lighting it up and climbing back over with the lost arrows in my hand, only when I was sure there was no danger did I look away.
"Here." I handed them over. "Now go set them down, food is almost ready."
I waved her towards the fire pit, there were now metal rods around it, cemented there too, with bars of metal on it and a sort pot turned into a DIY cauldron hanging off the metal bars and over the fire, Adar has put holes in them and twisted larger metal wire in a handle.
I followed Jasmine back, watching her hop in one of the plastic chairs that creaked on the ground from the movement.
"Are you sure this will be good?" Lucy asked us as she held a wooden spoon, I don't know why she insisted on eating together like this but Jasmine is not complain so I am not either.
"You wanted to cook, you asked for vegetables and meat, we got them for you." Jasmine said.
"I mean yeah but I don't know if they fit together." She said.
"A bit too late huh? Should have said something before she threw all the stuff in." I stood next to Lucy. "I just showed her where the veggies were inside the School but don't know what did she take."
"Well there are turnips I can see and remember, beets too, zucchini and an extremely small squash."
"Jass! You took our only squash? I barely got it to grow." She stuck her tongue out. "Damn you child."
"Yeah well I am more bothered about the meat."
"What, you never ate a rat?" I asked.
"A matter of factually, I never did."
"Trust me, better then you think." I nudged her a little at the little frown she had, only sparing Adar a glance and only because he moved, more concentrating in trying to tune a guitar he found and brought back.
"It is still weird for a first time." She pushed back.
"Don't you say?" I pushed back harder, making her stumble.
"Oh now you done it." I was like side checked, stumbling further than she did.
"Okay okay, timeout." I said, with one big step back next to her. "But yeah, try it first." Before I sat in another brought out chair next to Jasmine's.
"You are awfully friendly, do I need to put you down? You've been bitten?" Jasmine leaned over as she asked.
"Don't say that you idiot." I flicked her forehead. "I am just being cordial."
"Uh-hu yeah right."
"Stop that right now or I will cut your hair and have your head as smooth as a monkey's ass."
"Monkey's asses aren't smooth.... Right?"
"Are you so sure that you'd risk it?"
".... No."
"Good." I looked into the fire.
"Lucy, I got it!" The mentioned girl jerked as Adar yelled and I did too for different reasons, her's was in surprise to be called for while she checked the pot, mine was in a momentary heart attack since night was a lot quieter then the silence of the day so more would hear.
"Ah really?"
"Yeah I know how much you missed having one and what friend would I be to not fix it when I found a way too?"
"Gee thanks a lot!"
I watched him switch placed with her, so she knows how to play that thing? It was on my old list in my notebook that I should learn a second instrument since I have the time for it.
I held my head up with my hand, leaning it into it fully as I stared into the fire.
Heck even Jasmine stopped squirming around and watched in awe, she never heard my play piano did she? I don't think she even knows I can, she never asked so I never shared.... I should maybe?
There is a lot of things I should do but the least should be being truthful with at least Jasmine.
Her voice was relaxing, my newly born worries unable to take root  currently as I looked up at her instead of the fire, she was not looking our way nor did she feel my gaze on her.
She has a pretty voice.
A really pretty one.
