"Exactly! I think only someone like Gale could beat him. But where would we even find Gale?" Conrad sounded distressed.
Kaia smiled. "Gale? I know her."
Conrad froze. "You… know her? Are you serious? Don't joke with me."
"Not only do I know her, we're very close." Kaia's smile deepened.
Seeing she wasn't joking, Conrad couldn't help but exclaim, "No wonder you're Miss Bennett! Everyone's been looking for Gale, and here... But I heard she retired two years ago. What if you can't get her?"
"Relax, she'll show up," Kaia replied with confidence.
Conrad still sounded uneasy. "Honestly, how sure are you? If it's not a sure thing, I'll need to line up backups. Otherwise, it'll be embarrassing if we have no racer at all."
"Relax. She'll come. One hundred percent." Kaia's tone was absolute.
Conrad said, "Alright then, I'll leave it in your hands. By the way, the project we were going to do with the Parsons family got scrapped. We need a new partner. Do you have anyone in mind?"
Kaia thought of Penny. She could just give the project to the Sharp family directly, but she worried their capabilities might not be enough.
She said, "Make it an open bid, but give the Sharp family preference. As long as their proposal is decent and won't lose the company money, choose them."
"Alright," Conrad replied.
After that, Kaia called Penny. "Tomorrow, you and your dad go to K&B to bid for a project."
Penny blinked, baffled. 'What the heck is this about?' she wondered.
Before she could ask, Donald and his assistant walked in, talking about the project.
"Who would've thought the K&B and Parsons family collaboration was a done deal, and now it's fallen through."
Hearing this, Penny blinked again, taking a few seconds to regain her voice.
She asked, "Wait, Kaia, this project you're talking about. Don't tell me it's the one K&B was going to do with the Parsons family?"
"Yeah, that's the one. Get your dad there early, and put together a good proposal. As long as it's not trash, you'll basically get the deal." As Kaia said that, there was a knock at the door.
"Who is it?" Kaia called out.
"It's me." The low, magnetic voice made it instantly clear it was Tobias.
Kaia said into the phone, "I've got something to do, let's leave it at that for now."
"What is it?" Tobias asked.
"A thunderstorm just hit out of nowhere, and Miranda ran into some trouble on her way over. So, no one's cooking tonight. What do you want to eat? I'll whip something up for you," Tobias said.
"You can cook?" Kaia looked surprised.
Even if there was video evidence, Tobias would never be the one to bring it up.
He replied, "I can make plenty of things. Just name it."
Kaia shot him a suspicious look.
"What do you want to eat?" Tobias asked again, trying to sound calm, though there was a hint of unease.
Kaia paused, her eyes curving with a mischievous glint.
She said, "Beef Wellington, coq au vin, lobster thermidor, truffle risotto, crab-stuffed mushrooms, rack of lamb with rosemary, osso buco, clam chowder, escargot, filet mignon with peppercorn sauce, chicken cordon bleu, cassoulet, shepherd's pie, bouillabaisse, spinach and ricotta cannelloni, oysters Rockefeller, foie gras terrine, roasted quail with fig glaze, beef bourguignon, crab bisque... That's it. Any more and you wouldn't be able to make them anyway."
