"Are you sure you two won't become lovers?" Devin was quite uneasy, not for himself, but for his boss, because Joel was the king of boxing and one of the top ten eligible bachelors in Morganburg.
Kaia and Joel were so tight with each other that they might fall for each other one day.
Joel put his arm around Devin's shoulders and whispered, "To be honest, I think Kaia and your boss are a great match. They have my sincere blessings." Hearing this, Devin finally felt relieved.
"What are you two talking about? Is there a secret I shouldn't know?" Kaia stared at Devin and Joel with a puzzled look.
Joel chuckled, "It was a conversation between men, okay?"
Kaia raised her eyebrows at Joel and clenched her fists. "Discrimination? Do you really think that I forgot how to fight?"
"No, no, no, just kidding, just kidding," Joel said sheepishly. He touched his stomach. "My stomach is growling loudly. Let's go grab some food. Devin, do you want to join us?"
"It is my honor," Devin responded.
Kaia watched Joel lead the way, shook her head with a smile, and followed behind him.
Two days later, Kaia received a message from Penny.
Penny: [My mother's birthday is around the corner, and we will hold a party for it. Do come, please.]
Kaia: [I will be there. You have my word.]
Then, Kaia got changed and hurried to the auction house.
There would be an annual auction in Morganburg, and Kaia planned to get something nice there as a birthday gift for Penny's mother.
Owen waited at the doorway of the auction house. At the sight of Kaia, he hurried over and said, "Queen K, you're finally here! What a long wait!"
Kaia checked her phone and asked, "Didn't we agree on 7 p.m.? I'm not late."
"No, no, you're not late. I came early. Forget it. Queen K, are you sure about the house call from Dr. Miracle?" Owen asked.
"Yeah." Kaia nodded.
Owen looked Kaia in the eyes and said, "It is said that Dr. Miracle cured the mother of SR Alliance's boss and the grandmother of the Moreno family's patriarch. My question is, why Dr. Miracle let you be the messenger of this auction."
Kaia flashed a mysterious smile. "Aren't you smart? Why don't you take a guess?"
Owen rubbed his chin. "I think you got acquainted with Dr. Miracle in the Moreno family. Even so, why did Dr. Miracle entrust you to this task? Queen K, is this a prank?
"This is an auction organized by my family, so don't make a fool of me. Are you sure that Dr. Miracle will show up?"
Kaia rolled her eyes at Owen. "Come on! Have I ever lied to you?"
"No. I just want to be sure." Owen smiled sheepishly.
"Enough. Get back to your work. I will go get ready for the auction." Kaia moved forward because the auction would begin in no time.
"Queen K, this is your seat." Owen handed a paddle to Kaia. "See you around."
"Okay." Kaia took the paddle, walked into the hall, and found her seat.
She surprisingly found the Bennett family and the Ross family around her seat, though she had long known that there would be many acquaintances in this auction.
She might see this arrangement as a trap if she didn't know Owen well.
"Kaia? Why are you here? How did you sneak into this annual auction?" Ruth asked Kaia sullenly.
Lincoln tugged at Ruth's sleeve. "She has nothing to do with us. Just ignore her."
Ruth knitted her eyebrows, then relaxed them, and looked away from Kaia.
Lincoln was right. The Bennett family had disowned Kaia, so Ruth shouldn't get mad at her anymore.
Maisie shifted her gaze from Kaia to Louis and said in a low voice, "Did Kaia follow us here? If yes, she hasn't gotten over you yet. She will seize this chance to play up to us for the title of your wife."
Louis choked. After so many things had happened, he didn't think that Kaia was still interested in him.
"Son, why don't you take this opportunity to ask Kaia about your uncle? I don't think Kaia is so influential, but she is the only enemy of the Parsons family before their disappearance," Maisie suggested.
"Okay, Mom." Louis shared the same mind with his mother. He rose to his feet and approached Kaia. "Kaia, do you know where my uncle, Issac, and his family are?"
Kaia raised her eyebrows slightly. "They were deported out of Wustriland by me."
Hearing this, Louis sneered. "What a liar!"
"I am telling the truth," Kaia retorted.
Maisie lost her patience. "Are you that powerful? To deport the Parsons family out of Wustriland? If you are so powerful, why did your parents disown you?"
Instantly, Ruth frowned. "Maisie, say whatever you want, but please don't link us with Kaia."
"I am sorry. I feel sorry for you for having such an ungrateful beast," Maisie responded.
Right then, Penny came with an angry look. "Hey, Mrs. Ross, can't you say something nice? I think whoever is mean is worse than a beast."
"You! Where are your manners?" Maisie shouted with irritation.
"I agree with her. Whoever can't control their temper is inferior to beasts. An ill-bred scum and parasite."
"Who! How dare you insult me like that!" Maisie turned her head, saw Samantha, and had to suppress her rage.
Samantha's grandfather was the famous painter, Collin. As Collin's dear granddaughter, Samantha was more influential than Penny, so the Ross family couldn't afford to offend her.
"It is me. Well, do you want to slap me? I dare you! My grandfather is over there. I will call him over if you lay a finger on me." Samantha had her hands rested on her hips.
Maisie didn't dare to provoke Samantha, so she had to bite her tongue.
"What a coward!" Samantha rolled her eyes, took the seat next to Kaia, and handed Kaia the coffee she had just bought.
