She was so fascinated by playing with jade these past two days that she forgot such an important thing.
"Well, I won't go tonight."
"Why? I took you to see Dr. Dean a few days ago, but you were delayed by something. I remember you said you were very sorry, why don't you want to go now?" Tobias asked doubtfully.
Kaia had a headache. She used to say that purely to dispel Tobias's slightest suspicion of her.
"There's no special reason, I just flew back from Keoty and I'm too tired. I want to go to bed early after dinner. Besides, Grandma's illness can't be cured in one or two visits. I'll go next time when Dr. Dean goes to see Grandma."
Tobias narrowed his sharp, intelligent eyes, sizing Kaia up without revealing his thoughts."Okay, get some rest if you're tired."
He knew Kaia's physical strength well and didn't think she would be tired from just a trip to Keoty.
Not to mention going to Keoty, even if she went with him to fight three hundred rounds in the clouds and on the ground, she might not be too tired.
So she must be hiding something from him.
After the meal, Tobias went to the hospital alone. Before leaving, he told Kaia to rest well and also told Devin to take good care of her.
Kaia looked at Devin guarding the door, thinking that Tobias was indeed suspecting something.
"Devin, go and rest, I am going to sleep."
"It's okay, Miss Bennett, you go to sleep, I'll guard you at the door."
"I'm not used to people staying at my door, I won't be able to sleep. If you don't leave, I'll go back to Pioneer Retreat."
"This…" Devin also looked embarrassed. "Then I'll call Tobias."
"Forget it, do whatever you want." With that, Kaia closed the door and returned to her room.
If Tobias hadn't been relentlessly pestering her and willing to make a scene to get her to stay here tonight, she would have gone back to Pioneer Retreat, and Devin wouldn't be guarding her door.
However, she couldn't entirely blame Tobias; she also blamed herself for being soft-hearted and unable to resist his persistence.
Besides, she had her own reasons for staying here. At least Devin was watching her out in the open. If she went back to Pioneer Retreat, she might be secretly monitored.
Kaia turned on the music on her phone, turned it up a little louder, locked the door, gently opened the window, and climbed out.
Hospital.
Tobias looked at Kaia, who was dressed in men's clothing. For some reason, this face was clearly different from the person he had imagined, but it always gave him an incredibly familiar feeling.
Especially those eyes…
"Dr. Dean, why are you so late?"
"Sorry, I was stuck in traffic." Kaia had already prepared her excuse before coming.
"Dr. Dean, you don't need to apologize. My grandmother is still waiting inside. Please continue her treatment now." Tobias made an inviting gesture towards Kaia.
"Okay." Kaia walked in, greeted Pauline, and started to treat her.
Tobias kept staring at Kaia, and suddenly he noticed that Kaia had ear piercings on her earlobes.
His eyes lowered slightly, and he asked suspiciously, "Dr. Dean, how do you have ear piercings?"
Kaia's heart skipped a beat, but her expression remained normal. "Huh? Isn't it normal for men to get ear piercings now?"
"It's normal for men to get ear piercings, but usually they only get one. Two is rare." Tobias continued to ask calmly, while carefully observing Kaia's every move, even the slightest micro-expression.
