With all those armored vehicles and helicopters rolling out like a full-blown action movie, the scene was burned into his memory forever.
"Kaia, lunch is on me. Eat whatever you want!" Griffin declared.
Kaia turned to Penny. "You in?"
"Of course! Only an idiot would say no to free food," Penny said with a grin.
Across the street from the institute, inside a cozy café, Griffin's parents—Jameson Moreno and Judith Moreno—were chatting with a company CEO.
"Mr. Swanson, I heard your son's coming back to the country?" Judith asked.
"Yeah, that kid's been out there fooling around for years. It's about time he came back to take over the family business," the CEO, Jedidiah Swanson, replied.
"Does he have a girlfriend yet?" Judith asked.
Jedidiah instantly caught on to what Judith was hinting at—she was trying to play matchmaker for her niece.
"Are you looking to set my son up with someone?" Jedidiah asked, not beating around the bush.
"You sure don't miss a beat!" Judith laughed. "I've got a twenty-one-year-old niece. She comes from a family of scholars and is a total ace at all the classy stuff: music, calligraphy, painting, you name it. Your family's got the same background, so they'd be the perfect match. What do you say? Should we set them up and let the kids meet?"
Jedidiah rubbed his temples, looking like he was getting a headache.
"Honestly, that's tough. My son's never been into that artsy scene. Ever since he was a kid, he swore he'd only marry a woman who's an absolute top chef, smart, gorgeous, and can totally hold her own," Jedidiah said, sounding a bit helpless.
Judith was left speechless for a moment. "Wow... that's seriously asking for the impossible. You'd need a magnifying glass to even hope for a girl that perfect! Does someone like that really walk this earth?"
"And that's exactly why I'm losing sleep here! My kid's already twenty-five and he hasn't even dated once. I'm so anxious I'm going gray!" Jedidiah sighed, rubbing his scalp. "Honestly, the main reason he went overseas was just to hunt down a unicorn girl like that."
Then, all of a sudden, his gaze snapped to a girl across the street. His eyes sparkled with excitement, like he'd struck gold.
"Whoa, check her out! She's drop-dead gorgeous, like a goddess descended to earth. If only she's a wizard in the kitchen too?" he blurted, half serious, half wishful.
Hearing Jedidiah say that, Judith and Jameson couldn't help but crane their necks and check her out, just as curious as he was.
One look, and wow—she was unbelievably beautiful.
'Wait a second, isn't that Kaia?' Judith thought. 'And hold up, isn't that my son eagerly tagging along after her, trying to get her attention?
Jedidiah kept eyeing Kaia with obvious admiration. "Even from this distance, I can tell she's got a powerful aura. But honestly, she looks a bit too delicate. My son probably wouldn't be interested."
Just then, out of nowhere, someone bumped into Griffin, snatched his phone, and took off running like a bat out of hell.
Kaia didn't even blink. She shot forward like a rocket, and in less than three seconds, she'd caught up to the thief, tackled him to the ground, and had him pinned.
"Damn! She's not just gorgeous. She's a total badass! This is exactly the kind of girl I want for my future daughter-in-law!" Jedidiah exclaimed, practically jumping out of his seat to head over.
"Mr. Swanson, don't go over there!" Judith said, looking awkward and a little uncomfortable.
"I need to hurry! If I wait any longer, the perfect daughter-in-law will be gone!" Jedidiah said urgently, barely staying in his seat. "The family line has passed from one son to the next for eighteen generations. It took me forever just to have two sons, and then my youngest was kidnapped right after he was born.
"Don't even get me started! Now everything depends on my elder son carrying on our name, but he's so picky. I honestly thought I'd never have a grandchild. But finally, it feels like fate took pity on the Swanson family and sent us the ideal candidate. If I don't grab this chance now, we'll lose her forever!"
