The place was jam-packed with swimsuits—seriously, there had to be hundreds, maybe close to a thousand, lining every wall like a boutique on steroids.
She remembered Tobias had said he'd personally chosen every single one of them.
When Kaia finally came out after changing, she found the pool completely deserted—not a soul in sight.
'Where'd Tobias disappear to? How long can it take to change into swim trunks?' Kaia wondered, rolling her eyes to herself.
'Whatever, I'll just go for a swim,' she told herself and headed straight for the water.
Admittedly, all these roses were a bit over the top, but honestly, what girl could resist flowers? Kaia was no exception.
'It's all set up already, so I might as well enjoy it for once. It'd be a shame to let all these roses go to waste,' she thought, allowing herself to relax and take it in.
Once she made it into the pool, Kaia scooped up a handful of rose petals, mixing them with the water and playfully sprinkled them over herself. 'Okay, this is actually kinda cute,' she thought, unable to hide her amusement.
'It's weird. He's taking forever. What's keeping him?' Kaia wondered, glancing around the empty pool with mild confusion.
Suddenly, a loud splash erupted right in front of her, and a head covered in floating rose petals shot up out of the water, making her jump in surprise.
Without hesitating, Kaia instinctively balled her fists and slammed down on the unfamiliar head like she was playing whack-a-mole, her reflexes kicking in before her brain caught up.
Then came a deep, familiar groan from beneath her fists—one she'd recognize anywhere.
Kaia's eyes went wide with shock. Before she could even process what she'd done, Tobias, thanks to her reflex punches, was sent straight into the water, sinking fast out of sight.
"Tobias!" Kaia yelled, panic tightening her voice.
There wasn't a single response from him.
Knowing full well how strong she'd hit, Kaia didn't dare hesitate. She sucked in a breath and dove in without a second thought.
When she finally found Tobias, he was sprawed out at the bottom of the pool, completely still, making her heart skip a beat.
Panic surged through her as she hauled him up, desperately giving him mouth-to-mouth even before they reached the surface. She didn't stop until they broke through together, gasping for air.
Kaia dragged Tobias to the edge of the pool, her heart pounding in her chest. He was out cold, completely unresponsive.
"Tobias! Tobias, wake up!" Kaia shouted, her voice cracking with desperation.
No matter how hard she tried, he wouldn't wake up. Frantic with worry, she checked his head and found a lump the size of an egg.
'He needs medical attention right now, or else… even if he pulls through, he might end up losing his memory or worse,' Kaia thought, anxiety flooding her mind.
Kaia pressed her fingers rhythmically against his chest, doing chest compressions.
Soon, Tobias sputtered, coughed out some water, and his eyes fluttered open.
Kaia let out a long breath of relief. "How are you feeling?" she asked.
Tobias coughed twice and tried to sit up on the ground.
Seeing this, Kaia immediately reached out to steady him as he sat up.
"Why aren't you saying anything? Are you feeling well?" Kaia asked, nervously watching him.
But just as she spoke, Tobias shot her a blank, almost stranger-like look. Kaia's stomach dropped.
"You..." she started, but Tobias just stared back at her, lost.
"Who are you?" His voice was scratchy, totally confused.
Kaia was completely stunned, gaping at him. 'No freaking way... Did he really forget me? Is this for real—like, instant amnesia?' she thought, panic swirling in her chest.
"You really don't remember anything?" Kaia asked.
Tobias rubbed his forehead hard, his brows all scrunched up as he tried to remember. Nothing came to him, just a total blank.
"Don't worry too much. It's probably just some temporary amnesia from that hit. You should be back to normal in a few days," Kaia said, trying to keep calm and reassuring. She was already planning to get him to the hospital for a full checkup as soon as possible.
After all, it was his brain. She couldn't really tell just by looking. This definitely needed proper scans.
"Yeah," Tobias mumbled, giving a small, confused nod.
"Let me help you to the bedroom so you can get some rest," Kaia said, supporting him as she led him inside.
Soon enough, she had him lying down on the bed.
"Try to get some sleep," Kaia said, guilt gnawing at her. 'I mean, I did think some random dude was jumping me,' she reassured herself.
Just as Kaia was lost in thought, Tobias suddenly pulled her onto the bed. Before she even realized what was happening, she was already pinned beneath him.
She remembered Tobias had said he'd personally chosen every single one of them.
