"Well... Kaia's definitely the kind of person who loves hard and hates just as hard. She doesn't tolerate bullshit, that's for sure. Honestly, if you could win her over, it'd be like hitting the jackpot. No, it'd be like winning the lottery eighteen times over," Russell said, shaking his head in disbelief.
"You think I don't know that?" Tobias shot him a sharp look. "I know better than anyone how amazing she is."
"Don't beat yourself up, man. If you think about it differently, this whole mess could actually be a good thing," Russell said, trying to lighten the mood.
"What do you mean?" Tobias asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Come on, this is basic stuff! People say falling in love makes you dumb, but in your case, it's like your brain took a vacation. Kaia's only this mad because she genuinely cares about you, dude!
"Think about her personality. If someone she doesn't care about acts up in front of her, she just straight-up ignores them, like they're invisible. It's enough to drive people crazy," Russell explained.
Tobias nodded, looking serious. "Keep going."
"Let me ask you. Have you ever seen Kaia go off like that before?" Russell asked, eyebrow raised.
Tobias paused, thinking it over. Then his eyes suddenly lit up, a hopeful grin tugging at his lips. "So what you're really saying is... Kaia actually has a thing for me?"
"Well, that's pushing it. To be real, she probably just doesn't hate you. That's as far as I'd go," Russell shrugged. Tobias shot Russell a glare.
"Hey, don't give me that look! I'm just keeping it real. Right now, you need to chill and not bother her for a couple of days. Let her have her space," Russell advised.
Tobias frowned. "You want me to stay away for two whole days? Are you trying to kill me?"
Russell just stared at him, speechless.
'Man, this guy is such a love-struck idiot,' Russell thought, shaking his head.
"Whatever, it's your call. If you really want things to blow up with Kaia, knock yourself out and go chase after her," Russell said, shrugging.
Tobias fell silent, thinking it over.
Back at the villa, Kaia lay in bed, restless. Sleep just wasn't happening.
'Why am I still so pissed?' she thought. 'I've never been this mad for so long before.'
Her thoughts kept circling back to that bump she'd put on Tobias's head.
Sure, his amnesia was all just an act, but she really hadn't held back when she clocked him.
She kept replaying everything over and over until she finally dozed off around two or three in the morning.
She meant to sleep straight through the morning, but instead, her phone blasted her awake before the sun was even up.
Seeing it was her mom from the countryside, she could only grit her teeth and hold back all that morning crankiness.
"Hello? Mom, what's going on?" Kaia said, forcing her voice to sound normal.
"Why are you still in bed? You used to always wake up early! Did you stay up late last night again?" Willa nagged, her voice full of concern.
"Yeah, I was just up kind of late," Kaia mumbled.
"You can't just stay up late all the time just because you're young! Were you out late with Tobias last night?" Willa asked, her voice probing.
Kaia unconsciously frowned as soon as she heard Tobias's name.
"Hello? Why aren't you answering? Kaia?" Willa called out, sounding worried.
"Oh, uh... Mom, did you call for something?" Kaia snapped back to reality and quickly switched the topic.
"Ugh, it's your aunt again. She won't let up about introducing you to the guy who owns the café at her hotel," Willa groaned, rolling her eyes.
"Set me up with someone?" Kaia blinked in surprise.
"That's right! I told her you already have a boyfriend, but she just wasn't buying it—said that excuse is ancient history. She keeps boasting about her café owner, how he's young and talented, just twenty-eight and his place is always packed. Honestly, she acts like this guy's some kind of business prodigy," Willa rambled.
"Just forget it. Tell her absolutely not," Kaia muttered, rubbing her temples. All she wanted was to go back to sleep.
"It's not like I haven't tried, but you know your aunt. Unless she sees you with Tobias, happy and all couple, she'll never buy it. How about this: you take Tobias with you to the meet-up, and that'll get her off your back," Willa suggested.
