In the Moreno Group's office, Tobias sat with a tense expression, staring at the document in his hands. But his mind was completely occupied with Kaia.
Russell reminded him. "Tobias, you've been staring at that same document for over an hour. I know what you're thinking, but if you want things to work out between you two, you should just hold back for now."
Tobias set the document down. "It's been days since I last talked to her. It feels like centuries have passed."
Just then, Devin burst in, looking flustered.
"Mr. Moreno, Mr. Griffin Moreno just called. He said Miss Bennett..." Devin began.
Before Devin could finish, Russell quickly cut him off. "Don't say it! Don't mention anything about Kaia. Your boss really can't hear it right now."
"But..." Devin tried to insist.
"No buts! If you say it and ruin the plan, you'll be the one who destroys your boss's lifelong happiness." Russell said while pushing Devin toward the door.
"But..." Devin tried.
"Stop!" Russell shot back.
"But that..." Devin pressed on.
"I said stop!" Russell snapped.
Just as Devin was about to be shoved out, he clung to the doorframe and shouted at Tobias, "Miss Bennett is on a blind date!"
Tobias instantly sprang to his feet, and Russell released Devin immediately.
"Ahem, why didn't you say it sooner?" Russell muttered awkwardly.
Devin shot Russell a mildly annoyed face.
Russell stared down at the floor, putting on his best "none of this is my business" act.
"What's going on?" Tobias asked with a cold voice.
Devin didn't waste time bickering with Russell. He explained, "Mr. Griffin Moreno just called. He said he spotted Miss Bennett at Vanilla Deli Cafe, on a blind date with the cafe owner's son. Sounds like it might actually work out between them."
"What did you say? Kaia agreed to marry him?" As soon as Tobias finished, an icy chill seemed to sweep through every corner of the office.
Devin swallowed nervously and added, "That's what Mr. Griffin Moreno said. He saw Miss Bennett smiling, and the guy was smiling too. They looked like they were getting along really well. He heard the guy say he's totally set on Miss Bennett, said he wouldn't even consider anyone else."
The coldness in the room grew so intense that it felt like frost might start forming.
After two seconds of silence, Tobias didn't even bother to grab his jacket. He just strode out the door.
"Mr. Moreno, the CEO from Pioneer Group is about to arrive! You still need to discuss the partnership!" Devin shouted after him.
Tobias didn't even glance back. "You take care of it."
"Me? I'm just an assistant! What if the Pioneer Group CEO doesn't even give me the time of day?" Devin called out in dismay.
"Let Russell handle it. You help him out." Tobias's voice faded as he disappeared down the hall.
Devin looked helplessly at Russell, who gave himself a facepalm. Russell said, "Well, it was my idea in the first place. I'll do it. Consider it me owing him one."

Griffin kept checking his watch anxiously.
'Where the heck is Tobias? If he doesn't get here soon, Kaia's gonna get snatched up by someone else,' Griffin thought.
She was the nation's top academician! Other than her, no one else deserved to be his cousin's wife.
