"Kaia! What's going on? Is it true? Is Tobias actually... the richest guy in Morganburg?" Willa exclaimed.
Kaia glanced at Tobias, held back for a couple of seconds, then replied, "Sorry, Mom. I kept it from you because I didn't want you to worry. You know how much drama there is in those wealthy circles."
"So you do know I worry!" Willa's tone sounded like a scolding, but it was full of concern. "You two… you're not just playing around, are you?"
Tobias reached out and gently grabbed the phone from Kaia.
He said, "Willa, Kaia means more to me than my own life. If I didn't have her, I'd lose the will to live. Please, trust me and let me take care of her. I swear I'll give her everything. I'll make her the happiest, most cherished princess in the world."
If anyone else had said it, it would come off as corny. But when Tobias said them, they rang with a solemn sincerity, an oath of devotion that felt eternal.
Kaia looked up at Tobias, completely stunned, her emotions surging stronger than ever inside her.
On the other end, Willa just stood there, phone in hand, frozen for a while.
Since the call was on speaker, Solomon, right beside her, heard every word.
The couple exchanged a glance and then broke out in relieved, happy smiles.
Solomon took the phone from Willa. "The holiday is coming up soon. Tobias, you guys should come home together for it."
"Sure thing," Tobias replied with a bright grin, shooting Kaia a look. "He wants us home for dinner on the holiday."
"Getting cozy with my folks, aren't you?" Kaia teased.
"Well, they're my in-laws. We're a family now," Tobias shot back.
"Ugh, whatever. Not wasting energy arguing with you. Just get some rest," Kaia said.
"Okay, whatever my wife says." Tobias grinned.
Just as they stepped out of the hospital, Kaia came to an abrupt halt.
"What's wrong?" Tobias asked.
Kaia frowned, glancing over her shoulder.
"Did we leave something behind?" Tobias asked.
"I think... someone's been following us," Kaia said, her voice low and cautious.
Tobias's expression instantly turned sharp and alert. No way he'd take any chances when it came to Kaia's safety.
He scanned the area for a while, but couldn't spot anyone suspicious lurking around.
"Maybe I'm just seeing things?" Kaia muttered.
"No, probably not. Your instincts are keener than most people's. Whether it's real or not, we should take it seriously," Tobias said, with a firm tone.
With that, Tobias pulled out his phone. "Devin, assign some extra security to Kaia. I'm suspicious someone might be following her," he ordered.
"No need, it's probably just my imagination. Besides, with my fighting skills, there aren't many people who could take me down," Kaia replied, clearly not a fan of people trying to protect her.
Tobias understood Kaia's temperament well. He paused for two and then said, "Alright, I won't interfere with your freedom. But if you notice anything unusual, you have to tell me immediately."
"Don't stress over me. If anything does come up, I can call..." Kaia started, but she suddenly stopped mid-sentence.
She was about to say she could call Joel. But Joel's identity was sensitive. He couldn't just appear whenever she called.
"Who were you gonna call?" Tobias's eyes narrowed. "I'm your fiancé. If you're not calling me, who else would you call?"
Kaia couldn't help but roll her eyes. 'Does he really get jealous over something that small?' she thought.
"I just don't want to bother you," she said, quickly shifting gears. "The one-month engagement period is long gone. You're not my fiancé anymore."
