"Who?" Kaia asked, her curiosity piqued.
She hardly ever saw Tobias look like that.
"A childhood friend," Tobias said frankly.
"If it's just your childhood friend, why do you look so troubled?" Kaia was even more confused. She was sure that there was more to it.
"Because he's very good-looking," Tobias replied.
Tobias remembered when Russell had teased that Abdullah had the same taste as him. He knew Abdullah had been single for years, simply because he hadn't met anyone impressive enough who could truly stand shoulder to shoulder with him.
Kaia resigned with a shrug. She didn't feel like pressing him further.
The phone rang forever before Tobias finally picked up.
"Yo, Tobias, what took you so long to answer? Seriously, are you still grinding away at work at this hour?" Abdullah joked.
"I'm busy having some quality time with my wife. Kissing and all," Tobias said smoothly, not missing a beat.
Kaia was just about to step into the kitchen when she caught that line. She froze, gave Tobias a long, silent look, and rolled her eyes.
"Oof, I'm getting goosebumps here," Abdullah teased, rubbing his arms. "Russell's been telling me you've turned into a complete wife-obsessed man, but I was skeptical at first. Now I totally see it. He was spot on."
Abdullah continued, "You know, that actually makes me super curious. You and I practically grew up wearing the same pair of pants. No ordinary woman could ever break through that tough heart of yours. So I'm guessing yours must be one in a million. She must be absolutely outstanding."
Tobias's face grew even more tense. "She's mine."
Abdullah burst out laughing. "Bro, you almost sound insecure! Sounds like Miss Bennett hasn't given you her whole heart yet, huh? Seems like the door's still open. I might just have a shot."
"We're done," Tobias shot back without skipping a beat.
"Seriously, now you've got me even more curious. Just what kind of amazing girl has got you, Mr. Big Boss, keeping her under wraps like this?" Abdullah teased.
With that, Abdullah burst out laughing again.
"Alright, alright, I'll stop messing around. You know the rules. A friend's wife is untouchable. Bros before hoes, man. There's no way I'd ever try to steal your girl." Abdullah let Tobias off.
"I don't agree," Tobias said calmly.
Abdullah blinked in surprise.
Tobias gazed at Kaia, who was busy in the kitchen, his eyes full of tenderness. "People say that nothing is more permanent and long-lasting than friends. But for me? My woman is my heart, my very life."
"Gross." Abdullah shuddered, rubbing at his goosebumps. "You're totally whipped. It's worse than Russell said!"
Tobias chuckled. "Just wait till you fall for someone. Bet you'll turn out even worse than me."
"Who knows?" Abdullah shrugged. "But I've already set my sights on someone."
"Who?" Tobias asked, curiosity sparked.
"I haven't actually seen her yet, but the head chef at Splendor Hotel told me she's absolutely stunning, with an amazing aura. But here's the crazy part. Her skills in the kitchen are next-level. Even the head chef admits he can't hold a candle to her."
The more Abdullah talked, the more hyped he got about finally meeting her.
"And guess what? The chef at Splendor already agreed to play matchmaker. Pretty sure it won't be long before I get to meet this girl who sounds like a total legend," Abdullah concluded excitedly.
"Best of luck sweeping your dream girl off her feet," Tobias said, a silent sigh of relief escaping him. Abdullah can go after any girl he likes as long as he stays away from Kaia.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, Kaia got a call from the head chef at Splendor Hotel. "You want me to come over tomorrow? Why?"
"Uh, well..." the chef stammered, "I just whipped up a new dish and I was hoping you could come try it out for me."
