"I bet there's more to it than just tasting a new dish, right?" Kaia raised an eyebrow.
The chef chuckled awkwardly, sounding a bit embarrassed. "You really see through everything, don't you!"
"Come on, spill it. What's this really about?" Kaia pressed.
"Well, I've got this buddy who's been super eager to meet you," the chef confessed.
Kaia looked puzzled. "Meet me? Why?"
"Honestly, it's kind of my fault. One time I told him that your cooking was even better than mine, and ever since, he's been obsessed with the idea of meeting you. He's always been crazy into this stuff, so he's been pestering me non-stop for an introduction. I know it's asking a lot, but I owe him a huge favor, so..." The chef's voice grew more and more awkward.
Kaia remembered how the chef at Splendor Hotel had always gone out of his way to help her out every time she visited. The chef had been nothing but supportive of her, so saying yes to this request was the least that Kaia felt she could do for him.
"Alright, let's do it this Saturday afternoon," Kaia said.
"Awesome!" The chef was so happy he nearly forgot himself. He couldn't believe Kaia agreed that quickly.
When dinner was ready, Vince gazed at the table full of mouthwatering dishes, his eyes getting misty with emotion.
"Kaia, you're seriously the best person ever! Thank you so much for letting me stay here. I swear, I'll do anything! Laundry, cooking, cleaning, it's all on me from now on!" Vince sniffled.
Kaia reached out and ruffled Vince's hair. "You're still just a kid. If I really made you do all that, wouldn't that be child abuse?"
"But I can't just mooch off you like this, can I?" Vince said, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"I'm sending you to school," Kaia replied gently, already having it all planned out in her head.
Vince stared, completely stunned. "School? So I don't have to do chores, and I get to go to school? Doesn't that mean I'm just freeloading and making you spend money on me for nothing?"
"That's why you have to study hard and grow up to be someone who's got something to offer. Then it won't be a waste," Kaia answered.
Hearing that, Vince couldn't hold back his tears anymore.
"I'll study super hard, I swear! Once I'm all grown up, I'll earn loads of money and totally take care of you!" Vince sobbed.
Tobias reached out and gave Vince a gentle flick on the forehead. "Hey, she's my wife. Taking care of her is my job, not yours!"
The vibe suddenly got a little weird.
Kaia couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Seeing Tobias getting all serious and honestly jealous, Vince couldn't hold back either and started giggling.
Laughter filled the room, and the atmosphere started to feel warm and cozy.
After dinner, Tobias swaggered right into Kaia's room like he owned the place.
"What are you doing in here? Get out!" Kaia snapped, giving his shoulder a shove.
Tobias caught her hand, refusing to let her slip away, and pressed it against his chest.
"So, do you like kids?" Tobias asked, sounding casual.
"Why are you asking?" Kaia tried pulling her hand back but couldn't get free.
"Seems like you really adore Vince. If you like kids so much, how about we have one of our own? With our looks, bet our kid would be even cuter than him," Tobias said with a smirk.
"It's more likely that they'd inherit your shamelessness," Kaia quipped, rolling her eyes.
"Honestly, being shameless isn't a bad thing. I bagged you, didn't I?" Tobias grinned, totally unfazed.
"Sounds like you'd prefer sons, huh?" Kaia fired back, her sarcasm dialed up.
Tobias's danger radar went off instantly. "What? No! I'd be stoked to have a daughter as amazing as you. Actually, twins would be epic. One boy, one girl. That's the ultimate parent win, you know?"
The chef chuckled awkwardly, sounding a bit embarrassed. "You really see through everything, don't you!"
