Russell blinked in surprise. "What do you mean? Are you suggesting that Kaia deliberately keeps you away from her home? No way! What for?"
"We'll find that out tomorrow," Tobias replied.
"Are you serious? What if Kaia catches us?"
"Just don't let her notice us." Tobias had long made up his mind about a secret visit to Kaia.
Russell shrugged. "Fine. I will go, for your sake, my buddy."
"You made this decision for fun, didn't you?" Tobias saw through Russell.
Russell chuckled. "You didn't have to say it out..."
The next day, Abdullah drove to Kaia's place.
He said, "I didn't expect you to live in the best house in Pioneer Retreat. At the beginning of this project, we showed interest in this house, but we were informed that it was reserved for someone.
"I was curious about its buyer. It is known that K&B is the developer of Pioneer Retreat. Since the house was already reserved, its buyer must be a member of K&B. What's your relationship with K&B? Why can you live here?"
These questions brought Kaia a headache. "Why do you have so many questions? Didn't you come to learn cooking? If you don't want to learn, just leave. I will sleep on."
"Kaia, don't get mad. I was curious. Fine, no more questions. I shut up." Abdullah shut up as promised.
Kaia pointed to the shoe closet not far away and said, "Slippers are there. Grab whichever you like."
"Alright." Abdullah pulled open the door of the closet and saw the slippers for kids and men. Obviously, the men's slippers had been worn.
At the thought of Tobias who was a neat freak, Kaia paused and said, "Don't choose those men's slippers. There are new ones, right down there."
Sensitive, Abdullah thought for a moment and then asked, "Is the owner of the slippers a neat freak?"
"You are quite smart."
"You bet! You know what, I ranked second back in school though I idle about now."
Kaia showed interest in this topic. "Who ranked top?"
"Well..." Abdullah paused, a bit awkwardly. "I don't think you know him."
Kaia slightly raised her eyebrows and dropped the subject.
"So, what's the story between you and the owner of the men's slippers? Is he your wooer?" Abdullah inquired.
After a moment of silence, Kaia replied candidly, "Yeah, I think so."
Abdullah remained calm, but the smile in his eyes disappeared. 'Honestly, it would be weird if a good girl like Kaia had no admirers,' he thought.
It shocked him that his rival in love had a pair of slippers in Kaia's house. He told himself to push himself a little harder, or he might lose Kaia forever.
"What does he look like? Is he as handsome as me?" Abdullah teased.
"Honestly, you two are neck and neck, but his appearance suits my taste a bit better." Kaia was candid.
That answer gave Abdullah insecurity. "Do you like him?"
Kaia finally ran out of patience. "Do you want to learn cooking or not?"
"Of course." Abdullah put on the new slippers and headed into the kitchen with Kaia. "So, what's on the menu today?"
Kaia opened her fridge. "Everything's prepped. We will cook fish, beef stew, and... fried eggs with tomato which kids love. Fried eggs with tomato is simple, but a simple dish is quite a test for a good cook."
"Totally agree." Abdullah nodded and then couldn't help but dig a bit deeper. "I saw kids' slippers, and you mentioned the dish kids love. So, who's the little one? Your little brother?"
"Kind of," Kaia replied.
"Kind of? Not exactly?" Abdullah felt that there must be some juicy gossip.
Kaia tossed the fish onto the cutting board and gave Abdullah a warning look.
Instantly, Abdullah shut up. Outside the house, a black Maybach pulled up quietly.
Russell pointed at the limo in the parking spot and asked with confusion, "That car looks familiar, doesn't it?"
Tobias noticed the white Bentley, too.
"It looks like Abdullah's ride, doesn't it?" Russell already had his answer. "However, why is Abdullah here? I have never heard him mention Kaia."
Tobias recalled what Abdullah had said a few days ago. "I found myself a teacher who is good at cooking. By the way, she is pretty," Abdullah said.
'Speaking of which, the chef of Splendor Hotel serves the dishes himself whenever I dine there with Kaia. Moreover, his attitude towards her is deferential. Can it be that...' Tobias thought.
He quickly got out of the car, pulled open the door of the house, and soon saw a pair of men's shoes.
Russell was taken aback. "Kaia told you not to come. Is she dating a man here?" Then, he quickly clapped a hand over his mouth while looking at Tobias. "Well, Tobias, I was joking. Perhaps the shoes belong to Scott. As for that car..."
Before Russell finished his speech, Tobias had stridden into the living room. At the noise from the kitchen, Tobias hurried over.
Before he reached the doorway of the kitchen, he heard a man's voice that said, "Kaia, I don't know how to cut this. Can you teach me by holding my hand?"
Russell looked at Tobias with wide-open eyes as he thought, 'This voice...'
Tobias strode into the kitchen. "I will, by holding your hand."
Hearing this, Abdullah was shocked. He turned around and gazed at Tobias with astonishment. "Tobias? You... Why are you here?"
Tobias narrowed his eyes and said coldly, "That is my question for you. What are you doing in my fiancée's place?"
"Wait, she, you two... Is she the fiancée your grandpa chose for you not long ago?" Agape, Abdullah shifted his gaze between Kaia and Tobias.
Tobias didn't bother to answer Abdullah's question. He walked over to Kaia and pulled her into his arms to stake his claim.
For a long time, Abdullah didn't make a sound.
Russell sauntered over, nudged Abdullah with his shoulder, and teased, "What a surprise! Your teacher turns out to be Tobias's fiancée." Then, he burst into laughter.
"We'll find that out tomorrow," Tobias replied.
"Are you serious? What if Kaia catches us?"
