"Hey, did you guys hear? The president's seriously ill, and rumor has it he's already picked someone to take over as the new head of Morganburg University," Henry blurted out, instantly stirring up a storm of gossip.
"Where'd you hear that? Is that for real?" someone blurted out, eyes wide with disbelief.
"Of course it's real! My dad works here, and he told me himself," Henry said, puffing out his chest with pride.
"So it's true, huh? Do you know who the new president is? Is it some big shot? Spill it!" someone pressed, curiosity practically bursting out of them.
Henry shook his head. "I don't know the details. All I heard from my dad is that the new president is someone from our school."
Hearing that, Penny leaned over and whispered to Kaia, "Come on, just tell me straight. Is it you?"
Kaia nodded. "Trust me, I didn't really want to, but there was no way I could turn it down."
Penny let out a deep breath. She'd always known Kaia and Horace were pretty close, but hearing Kaia actually say it out loud still hit on a whole different level.
"So when's the official handover? Is it gonna happen at the school assembly?" Penny blurted out, her voice buzzing with excitement.
Penny's imagination was already in overdrive, picturing Kaia striding onto the stage with everyone in the room watching, as Kaia delivered her epic speech and stole the spotlight.
Just thinking about it made Penny's whole body tremble with excitement—her hands, her feet, and even her heart were shaking.
She glanced at Henry and snickered inwardly. 'Look at that smug face. Wait until you actually see Kaia becoming president. Let's see how embarrassed you are when the spotlight's on her!'
"I'm heading to the meeting soon, but it's supposed to stay under wraps for now, so please don't tell anyone," Kaia reminded her firmly.
"Huh? Why? You're about to be the new president! Why keep it secret? That's such a big deal!" Penny protested, clearly disappointed.
Kaia frowned. "If everyone knew, I'd never get any peace. I'd be the center of attention wherever I went. Besides, if I really wanted all that attention, I wouldn't have kept it quiet that I'm Dr. Bennett for this long."
Penny suddenly understood.
'Sure, being president of Morganburg University is awesome and all, but nothing's cooler than being Dr. Bennett!' Penny thought, practically buzzing with excitement.
But she just couldn't hold it in, and she had to tell someone, or she'd burst.
She grabbed her phone and quickly texted Donald. [Dad, our school's got a new president!]
Donald replied: [ Who?]
Penny texted back: [Kaia.]
Donald: [For real?]
Seeing his shocked reaction pop up on her phone, Penny couldn't help but feel insanely satisfied.
At 8:50, Kaia stood up and walked out of the classroom.
"Kaia!" Henry called out. "Class is about to start. Where are you even going?"
Kaia shot back, "None of your business."
She didn't even spare Henry a glance as she headed straight for the president's succession meeting.
Henry's face got red with anger. 'Go on, keep strutting around like you run the place, Kaia. Just wait till the new president steps in. I'll have my dad tell on you for every single rule you break!'
'Every new boss loves cracking down when he first arrives. You might be the unlucky one that he'll make an example of!' Henry thought with a wicked grin.
Inside the conference room, almost everyone from the school leadership was present.
"No one really knows if this new president is capable. Horace kept praising that person before, but honestly, until we see some real results, I'm reserving judgment," someone grumbled.
"Exactly, we all respected Horace, and he earned it. But if this newbie can't deliver, I'll be the first to call him out. What do you think, Jake?" another added, giving the group a meaningful look.
Jake's face was visibly irritated. "The new president has already been decided—no use arguing now. What I really want is for the new president to expel a student who's been blatantly violating school rules."
"Who could get you this riled up?" Braylon asked, curiosity all over his face.
"You know exactly who I'm talking about. This student is in one of your classes," Jake replied.
"Who on earth is it? None of my students ever struck me as rule breakers," Braylon said after a long moment, stumped.
"Where'd you hear that? Is that for real?" someone blurted out, eyes wide with disbelief.
