Kaia wasn't done yet. She added, "15 million dollars is just one of the prizes. The other reward? The winner gets an internship at Dr. Bennett's institute, and if they do well and want to stick around, they'll have a full-time position waiting after graduation."
That was a bombshell.
Everyone in the room was shocked by Kaia's announcement.
Jake could barely get the words out, his voice trembling. "Y-you said… which institute? Dr.—Dr. Bennett's?" He could hardly believe it. 'Is she serious?'
"That's right," Kaia nodded.
"You can't be serious! Dr. Bennett's institute is the biggest deal in all of Wustriland. Why would they even bother partnering with us? And actually letting one of our students in? Come on, there's a limit to bragging. I bet you don't realize just how impossible it is to get in. Forget students, even superstar professors have to fight tooth and nail for a shot at an internship," Jake said, laying thick on sarcasm.
Jake couldn't believe Kaia could actually pull something like that off. Everyone else was equally skeptical.
"Right? I mean, look, most of us still aren't thrilled with a student getting to be president, but since our last president chose her and the admin signed off, our hands are tied. But the way she's spinning wild tales to make herself look good, honestly, I can't take it," one of the professors grumbled.
"Seriously, let's keep this down-low. If word gets out that our new president's throwing around these crazy claims, it'll be a shame for Morganburg University," another person whispered, worried.
While the crowd kept whispering and throwing skeptical glances, Kaia coolly pulled out her phone and dialed Dr. Bennett's institute right in front of everyone.
"Just follow my instructions and issue a public statement. Make it fast," she ordered, her voice sharp and unwavering.
Everyone shot her looks of disbelief, especially Jake, whose sarcastic smirk said it all. 'Yeah, as if that'll ever work,' he thought.
Just as Jake was about to chime in, Kaia pulled out her phone again, glanced at the screen, and a satisfied smile curved her lips.
"Go ahead and check your phones," she said, sounding cool and unshakable.
'Keep up the act, Kaia. Let's see how long you can keep bluffing,' everyone scoffed inwardly, ready to watch her get embarrassed.
No one hesitated. Phones came out in a flash, and the moment they saw the official announcement from Dr. Bennett's institute, their eyes nearly popped out and their jaws crashed to the floor.
[Announcement of Dr. Bennett's Institute: The institute will accept the champion of Morganburg University's campus research competition as an intern. If the intern excels during their term and passes all the assessments, a full-time offer is waiting after graduation.]
The comment section exploded.
[Regret hitting hard! If I hadn't gone to Longsea University, but picked Morganburg University instead, I could've had a shot at Dr. Bennett's institute!]
[For real. Can I still transfer right now?]
[Seriously curious, why is Morganburg University teaming up with Dr. Bennett's institute?]
[Heard Morganburg University just got a new president, and today's her first day. I think she might have some insider link with Dr. Bennett's institute.]
[That's a pretty convincing theory.]
After reading this, all the senior staff and professors started trading some weird looks, until finally, everyone's eyes locked straight on Kaia.
"Ms. Bennett, who would've thought you had such clout, and even ties to Dr. Bennett's institute! We couldn't see a powerhouse even when she was standing in front of us. Please accept our apologies for any offense. We hope you'll let it slide," one of the professors said, clearly humbled and a bit sheepish.
"Honestly, we were clueless. No wonder the former president kept hyping you up, saying you'd take Morganburg University straight to the top if you ever stepped up as our leader. Looks like those words weren't just empty talk after all," another senior staff member admitted, nodding along enthusiastically.
