"You're really just gonna let me drop dead here? If I die, good luck finding another guy like me, I'm totally rare!" Tobias joked.
Kaia almost wanted to roll her eyes and shoot back, "Seriously? With my looks and smarts, it wouldn't be hard to find another guy."
But seeing Tobias already poisoned, she bit her tongue. If she really pissed him off, his blood would rush faster and that venom might hit his heart even quicker.
"Hurry up and suck out the poison," Tobias urged, hands already fumbling with his waistband like he was about to pull his pants down.
Kaia grabbed his hand, firmly stopping him before he could go any further. "Are you kidding me? Did you even check where that bite is?"
The wound was all the way up near the top of his thigh. Honestly, it couldn't get any more awkward than this.
"So you're really just gonna stand there and let me suffer? Kaia, that's cruel, even for you! If you got bit, I wouldn't care how weird the spot was, I'd suck the poison out for you, no hesitation," Tobias pleaded, pulling the full drama routine.
Kaia just shot him a blank look, totally speechless.
"Just sit here and hold on, I'll go grab some herbs and patch you up. You'll be alright," she said, trying to sound soothing.
"Why make it so complicated? Just suck—" Tobias started, but Kaia's glare shut him down instantly.
"Say one more thing and you're on your own," she threatened.
Tobias zipped his lips right away.

Joel was sleeping soundly when a nightmare suddenly snapped him awake.
Scott came in with a bowl of hangover cure. "Joel, you're awake. You look kinda pale, did you have a nightmare or something?"
"Yeah." Joel nodded, still shaken. He'd just dreamed that Kaia got murdered in cold blood.
"Where's Kaia?" Joel asked, his voice tight with worry.
"She went out with Mr. Moreno," Scott replied.
"Where did they go? Just the two of them?" Joel pressed.
Watching Joel get more and more worked up, Scott just found it weird. 'They're close, sure, but does he really need to freak out this much?'
"Oh, Kaia said one of her friend's grandpas is about to celebrate his birthday, so she went up the mountain to dig up some Fo-ti for him," Scott explained.
Just as Scott finished speaking, Willa burst into the room. "Something's wrong! Someone's hurt!"
Before anyone could react, Joel bolted out the door like a shot.
"Kaia!" Joel couldn't hold back his panic as he called out.
Willa and Solomon exchanged a glance.
"Honey, don't you think Joel is being a bit too attentive to Kaia lately?" Willa murmured.
"Yeah, he definitely is," Solomon said, watching Joel speed off, a thoughtful look in his eyes.
Willa's eyes went wide. "Wait, you don't think Joel's got a thing for Kaia, do you? Honestly, if he did, I'd be all for it. He'd make a great son-in-law.
"But Tobias is amazing too. Forget about him being the richest guy around, his devotion to Kaia... I've never seen a man love a woman like that in my whole life."
"You're overthinking it," Solomon said, not buying that Joel had romantic feelings for Kaia.
"Isn't it obvious? Just look at how worked up Joel gets whenever something happens to Kaia! If he didn't like her, why would he care so much? Seriously, why do you think he's so invested?" Willa pressed.
Solomon was stumped for a moment, but as a man himself, he just knew Joel's feelings for Kaia definitely weren't romantic.
Joel shot out of the yard, tense as a drawn bow and ready to snap. The instant he laid eyes on Kaia, he rushed over, eyes wildly scanning her from head to toe for any hint of injury.
"Where the hell are you hurt? Just tell me! Are you trying to freak me out or what? I swear, you're killing me here!" Joel blurted out.
"I—" Kaia started, but Joel cut her off.
"If you don't tell me, I'll just knock you out and drag you to the hospital myself, have them check you inside out," Joel threatened.
Kaia just stared at him, totally speechless.
"It's not me who's hurt, it's him," she finally said, pointing at Tobias.
