Another student piped up, "Please, she's not cut out for research at all. Why would she give a damn? She probably hasn't even heard the name Dr. Bennett before."
"No way! Dr. Bennett is world-famous. Anyone at Morganburg University would have to know her," someone else insisted.
Another scoffed. "Why not? She's basically straight outta nowhere, like, some random village in the middle of nowhere. Chances are she hadn't even heard of Dr. Bennett until yesterday, if ever."
Kaia was clearly losing patience. "Look, I just asked you to move over. Was that really worth riling everyone up against me? Did I ever do anything to you? Or are you just born unreasonable?"
"You're the one who's unreasonable! Your whole family must be, too!" the girl shrieked, flailing her arms like she was about to go head-to-head with Kaia right on the spot.
"Excuse me, could you move?" Zion's voice suddenly came from behind the girl.
She might brush off Kaia all she wanted, but when Zion spoke up, there was no way she'd risk offending him. She instantly scurried out of the way, not daring to say another word.
Zion stepped up to Kaia, trying his best to sound calm and respectful despite his nerves. "It's lunchtime now, I was wondering if you'd like to grab a bite together? If you're not busy."
As soon as he said that, everyone looked shocked.
'No way, the famously cold campus heartthrob is actually inviting Kaia to lunch? And he sounds downright gentle about it? What on earth is happening here?' they probably thought.
Kaia nodded. "Sure, let's go."
With that, Kaia and Zion walked side by side toward the cafeteria.
As the pair walked off together, the rumor mill kicked into high gear.
"Wait, are they seriously dating?" someone whispered.
"No way! Zion is the ultimate ice prince, always buried in his studies. Every girl who's tried to talk to him gets ignored. Some say he's not even interested in girls, so there's no way he'd fall for Kaia," another student snorted.
Then another girl chimed in, "Why not? Kaia has replaced Beatrice as the queen bee. You might roll your eyes at her attitude or background, but with that face, she could blow up on social media and be famous in no time."
Everyone had to admit, that was spot on.
"Wait, they're really dating? Holy crap, this is a bombshell! I'm the school press, no way I'm not reporting this. This is campus headline material!" Just as that student was busy taking photos, another handsome figure suddenly showed up by Kaia's side.
This was none other than Larry, the other top-tier campus heartthrob.
His eyes softened as he looked at Kaia. "Where are you going?"
"Zion invited me to lunch," Kaia replied honestly.
Larry glanced at Zion. He knew this was the guy who'd won the big research competition, so of course he'd met the real Dr. Bennett.
"Mind if I crash your lunch date?" Larry flashed a casual grin.
Kaia just chuckled and shrugged, "Well, it's not my treat, Zion's call."
Zion shrugged back, sounding relaxed. "Sure, go ahead, I don't mind."
With that, all three headed out together, walking shoulder to shoulder.
The whole crowd was absolutely stunned, mouths hanging open and jaws nearly hitting the floor at this wild scene.
Someone audibly gulped and stammered, "Holy crap, what did I just witness? Two campus heartthrobs with our school beauty queen sandwiched right between them? This is almost too gorgeous to be real!"
"That's not even the craziest part! Larry jumped in, Kaia asked Zion if he was okay with it, and he said yes! Are we about to see one girl juggling two guys? Peak gossip material!" another replied.
