Kiera caught the opportunity and, without a second thought, slashed her dagger at Kaia's face.
Kaia quickly stepped back and raised her arm to block the dagger against her face.
With a harsh tear, the blade ripped through her sleeve, leaving only a short, shallow cut on her arm.
Seeing the scratch on Kaia's arm—shallow, like a cat's claw—Kiera's chest heaved with fury.
She had attacked with all her strength, giving it everything she had, and yet it had only left a barely noticeable scratch on Kaia's arm.
Kaia caught the smell of fresh blood rising in the air. The wound was nothing, but her rage boiled over—she was done holding back.
"You've crossed the line." Kaia's voice came out so cold that it felt like it could frost the air around her.
"Seriously? Even now, you're still so arrogant. Looks like I didn't hit you hard enough," Kiera scoffed, eyes narrowing.
"Try this!" Kiera raised her knife and lunged at Kaia's face once again.
Kaia didn't dodge. Using her blurred vision, she grabbed Kiera's wrist, snatched the dagger, and with a flick of her wrist, spun it in a flourish, slashing toward Kiera's face.
Kiera turned pale with fright, nearly losing control.
Just as the cold, glinting dagger was about to slash her face, a hand shot out and smacked Kaia's wrist aside.
Running on fumes, Kaia couldn't hold her balance against the sudden force. She staggered backward, crashing into a broad, steady chest behind her.
She didn't even need to look. It could only be him.
"What are you doing here? Didn't you go to another city?"
"Don't say anything yet. Let me check your body properly first."
Tobias's thin lips pressed tightly together, his face cold as the winter wind, his entire presence resembling a king of the underworld risen straight from hell.
The instant he spotted the wound on Kaia's arm, his whole body went stiff, tension practically crackling off him.
"You're hurt!"
"It's fine, Tobias. Just a little cut," Kaia tried to brush it off.
"A little cut? Are you kidding me? You're bleeding here!"
"Uh—yeah! It's pretty serious. You'd better take me to the hospital quickly, or else by the time we get there, the wound might already start to heal." Kaia joked, half teasing just to mess with him.
"You can still joke at a time like this?" Tobias knew Kaia just didn't want him to worry.
Kaia gave a helpless laugh. "Seriously, I'm not just messing around—I can literally feel it closing up already."
"You… you never know how to take care of yourself. Do you have any idea how much it hurts me to see you like this? Forget getting injured and bleeding—even if you lose a single strand of hair, it pains me to no end! If you won't think for yourself, can't you at least think for me? Without you… how am I supposed to live?"
Tobias gazed tenderly at the girl in his arms. Seeing the pale color on her face, his heart ached so deeply it felt as if it might bleed.
Kaia didn't know how many times she had been moved by this man. At this moment, she couldn't see the man's expression, but she could guess his affectionate eyes and feel his hot heart.
On the opposite side, the middle-aged man who had just taken action looked at Kiera with a worried look on his face.
"Is your arm broken?"
"Uncle, she broke my arm! You have to make her pay!" Kiera screamed, her eyes wild with rage.
Zane glared at Kaia, his face twisted with fury. "You little brat! How dare you lay a hand on someone from my family? You're asking for death!"
Kaia quickly stepped back and raised her arm to block the dagger against her face.
