As Zane charged at them with blazing eyes, Tobias yanked Kaia behind him, putting himself between her and danger.
"She's my girlfriend—let's see who's got the guts to touch her!" Tobias snapped, ice in his voice.
Zane froze on the spot, his gaze darting warily between Kaia and Tobias.
"Uncle Zane! He's just messing with you! Kaia's not even his girlfriend—he's only saying this to help Gavyn!" Kiera protested loudly.
Even so, Kaia was seriously stunned. She couldn't believe Tobias would go to such extremes for Gavyn, announcing in public that Kaia was his girlfriend—and even pulling her into his arms.
Hearing Kylie's words, Zane let out a breath and his shoulders finally eased.
"Mr. Moreno, this isn't your business. Kaia hurt my niece, and I won't rest until she pays for it," Zane snapped, his tone cold and stubborn.
Tobias narrowed his eyes, icy and unreadable. "I'll say it again—she's my girlfriend. Let's see who dares lay a hand on her."
"Then don't blame me for getting rough," Zane shot back. "If word spreads that the Yates family can be pushed around by nobody, how can we maintain our position in the military and still lead our soldiers to defend the country?"
Kaia burst out laughing. "It was you guys who came looking for trouble, rolling up with an army to take me down. Outnumber me? Fine. But when you couldn't win, you had to resort to pepper spray? Pathetic."
"Not only that — after beating the younger ones, the elders showed up. The young were unreasonable, and so were the old. They even called me, the victim, a villain who's preventing your family from defending the country."
"Let me get this straight. You really think this garbage is going to help you hold your position in the military division? Lead soldiers to defend the nation? Please, you guys are the sort who just drag the country's reputation down and make your own people lose faith in you."
"Here's three words for you—a public disgrace!"
Zane's fists shook with rage, his knuckles popping. "What a sharp-tongued girl! I'll rip that mouth of yours apart today!"
"Devin," Tobias said, his voice calm but commanding.
In the next instant, Devin showed up with all the Moreno family's elite bodyguards in tow.
Zane saw the swarm of backup and realized there was no way he could take them all—so he froze, fists clenched, eyes darting.
"Fine! You all just wait—this isn't over. We'll come back and make you pay," He spat the threat and left with Kiera.
"Wait," Tobias said, his face was even colder and harder than usual, as if carved from ice—completely expressionless.
"You think you can just leave after laying a finger on my woman?"
Zane, boiling with rage, looked at the mark on Kiera's arm. "That's nothing — just a shallow cut and it's already dried up. My niece's arm is broken, didn't you see? I'm not trying to pick a fight now, yet you're the one coming after me!"
"Who cares about your niece? Even her entire life isn't worth one hair of my girlfriend's!" Tobias fired back.
Tobias's voice wasn't loud, but it carried a force that made everyone freeze.
Even Zane, who'd spent a lifetime on the battlefield, found Tobias's intimidating presence so overwhelming that he couldn't even bring himself to look the man in the eye.
"My niece is a treasure of the world, while Kaia is just a worthless life!" Zane sneered, every word laced with scorn.
In an instant, an overwhelming wave of killing intent exploded from Tobias, overwhelming everything around him.
"In that case, forget settling this later. Let's clear the score right now," Tobias said coldly.
He shot a glance at Devin. "Do it. Make it hurt. Especially Zane and Kylie—I want their faces smashed so badly that they won't even recognize themselves!"
