Zane was fuming with frustration. "Dad, you really can't blame me for this! You don't know what it was like—Tobias showed up with dozens of elite bodyguards, each one a top-level fighter, especially Devin. They all rushed in at once, showing no mercy with their fists and kicks. I was outnumbered and completely no match for them!"
"That brat! He thinks the Yates family mean nothing to him? Come on! We're heading straight to the Moreno family. They owe us justice!" Victor roared, his voice shaking the room.
Just then, the butler rushed in, clearly out of breath.
"Sir, the Morenos have arrived," he said urgently.
"Hah! Tobias doesn't know how to behave, but at least the rest of the Moreno family aren't like him. I bet they're here to make amends for what Tobias and Kaia did," Victor said, already feeling a lot better.
Zane and Kiera had the same thought.
"Grandpa, look at what they did to Uncle Zane! We can't just let this go. Leave Tobias out of this for now, he's running the Moreno family anyway. But I want Kaia to kneel down and apologize to me in public, or I swear I won't let this slide!" Kiera snapped, her voice trembling with rage.
"Don't worry. You're my granddaughter, and I'll be damned if I let some brat like Kaia trample over you," Victor said coldly.
While they were still talking, Keaton walked in with more than a dozen members of the Moreno family.
Victor and the rest of the Yates family were momentarily stunned by the sight.
'It seems the Moreno family is really serious. They showed up with almost everyone, families included,' Victor thought.
'Looks like the Moreno family really knows how to handle things,' he added to himself.
It was just that the two people who should have come — Tobias and Kaia — hadn't shown up, and that left Victor and the others feeling displeased.
"Keaton, why aren't Tobias and Kaia here?" Victor asked.
Keaton banged his cane against the floor, the sharp thuds echoing through the room as his anger boiled over.
"You've got some nerve bringing up Kaia! You can't even control your own granddaughter — she brought her bodyguards to gang up on Kaia, then sprayed her with pepper spray like a coward. I've never seen anyone so shameless!" Keaton shouted, his voice trembling with anger.
Kiera's face was flushed deep red with a mix of rage and humiliation, and Victor snapped his head around to shoot a glare at her.
"Kiera! What's going on? Didn't you say Kaia wanted to take Gavyn for herself, so she brought people to attack you? And what's this about the pepper spray?!"
"Grandpa, don't listen to him! He's just taking Kaia's side. I swear, I'm telling the truth—she started it!" Kiera cried, her tears streaming down as she looked as wronged as if the whole world had it out for her.
Victor looked clearly unconvinced.
"So, are you saying Keaton is lying at his age?" Victor challenged.
"No, of course not! He is a man of great virtue and respect — he'd never lie! It must be Kaia who twisted the truth when she complained to him, making it sound like I was the one at fault first." Kiera protested.
The more Kiera spoke, the more wronged she felt. She was acting so convincingly that even she started to believe it herself, that all of this really was Kaia's fault.
"Grandpa, if you don't believe me, just ask Uncle Zane! He was there too—he'll back me up for sure!" Kiera added, her voice pleading, trying to sound innocent.
As she spoke, Kiera shot Zane a meaningful glance, quietly signaling him to cover for her.
Zane had never been able to have kids of his own, so Kiera was like the daughter he'd always dreamed of. Ever since she was little, whatever she wanted, he would do anything to get it for her.
"Dad, Kiera's not lying to you. By the time I got there, Kaia had already messed up her arm. And if I hadn't gotten there just in time, Kaia would've slashed Kiera's face with that knife," Zane said, sounding desperate and protective.
