With both his son and beloved granddaughter telling the same story, Victor stopped doubting and his expression turned icy as he faced Keaton.
"Keaton, you heard them. Looks like you were left in the dark too. Enough talking—hand over Kaia now. Rest assured, for Gavyn's sake, I'll spare her life," Victor said coldly.
Keaton stepped out, then slammed his cane against the floor with a resounding crack.
"You want Kaia? You'll have to walk right over my dead body first!" he said, voice unwavering.
As soon as those words came out, the entire room was stunned.
Victor and the others never expected Keaton to defend Kaia so fiercely. Wasn't Kaia just Gavyn's girlfriend? Besides, Gavyn himself had never even made their relationship public.
Honestly, even if she were his daughter-in-law, this level of protection would be over the top. Who did that for a son's girlfriend?
Behind Keaton, the whole Moreno family all wore strange expressions, glancing at one another in confusion.
"What's going on with Dad? Why is he acting like Kaia's his own daughter? He even said they'd have to walk over his dead body! Isn't this basically making the Yates family our enemies for good?" Judith whispered to the others, voicing what everyone was thinking.
"I just don't get it, what did Kaia do to make Grandpa so obsessed with her?" Cecelia muttered, her tone dripping with jealousy.
Just then, Griffin stepped forward and stood right beside Keaton.
"Grandpa, I'm with you! There's no way this is Kaia's fault! This is all on the Yates family, and especially on you, Kiera!" Griffin declared, his voice ringing out with conviction.
Judith and Jameson both sucked in a sharp breath.
Was this really their son? Since when did he get so brave?
They'd never seen Griffin like this before. He used to be a total slacker, always out partying and never taking responsibility for anything—they were always the ones cleaning up his messes.
But now, he seemed to have grown up overnight, suddenly steady and mature.
Come to think of it, this change started after that whole incident with Kaia's brother being kidnapped.
'So, is Kaia really the reason he's changed?' Judith and Jameson wondered.
Keaton nodded at Griffin. "Not bad. Seems like Kaia really taught you how to turn your life around."
"Totally!" Griffin said, eyes shining with awe as he mentioned Kaia. "If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be the guy I am now. Kaia's on a whole other level—someone like her wouldn't bother wasting her time on a troublemaker like Kiera."
"Who are you calling a troublemaker?" Kiera snapped, practically fuming with anger.
"Whoever answers, that's who I'm talking about," Griffin retorted, sharp as ever.
"You—" Kiera started to shout back, but Victor quickly cut her off.
"Kiera, no need to waste your breath arguing with a rascal. Don't embarrass yourself."
"Fine," Kiera said with a sneer, lifting her chin and giving Griffin a glare that could freeze him on the spot.
Griffin just about lost it—he was seriously pissed.
"That's enough," Keaton cut in, voice sharp and full of authority. "Leave this to me."
"Okay, Grandpa," Griffin said quickly.
Keaton's tone was absolute. "Hand Kiera over to me, right now. I want her on her knees before Kaia—right here, in front of everybody—and make her slap herself a thousand times. Every single time, she has to say, 'I was wrong. I deserve this.'"
Victor's eyes bulged in outrage, staring daggers at Keaton.
"You miserable old bastard! How dare you try to shame my granddaughter like that? You used to have some sense! Kaia's the one who messed up, and instead of owning up, you flip the whole situation and now you want to publicly disgrace Kiera? I won't tolerate this—you're crossing the line!"
