Kaia's face gave nothing away—not a single emotion, not even a hint of what she was thinking.
The three bigshots from the Yates family were all towering figures in the military, but now they were groveling in front of Kaia, just a young girl. The scene rocked everyone who didn't know the real story to their core.
Judith and Jameson were shooting each other a look and mumbling under their breath.
"Is it just me, or does this whole scene give off some seriously weird vibes?" Judith whispered.
"No kidding," Jameson muttered, nodding.
Right now, Kaia looked like she was the real deal—like everyone else had to take a back seat to her.
But they all knew the truth about Kaia—she was just some small-town nobody. The only thing she had going for her was being this year's top scorer in Morganburg.
But honestly, a title like "top scorer" didn't count for squat in front of the bigshots from the Yates family.
Kaia sank into her seat, eyes glazing over, a distant look on her face. "You really don't need to beat yourselves up. This isn't on any of you. The mistake was all Kiera's."
"But that's also because we didn't—" Victor started to protest, only to trail off when he got a good look at Kaia's eyes.
"Wait, your eyes—was it that brat Kiera who did this to you?" he demanded, his voice sharp with fury.
Kaia stayed silent, but the look on her face said it all—she didn't deny it.
Victor shouted furiously, spun around, and smacked Kiera hard across the face.
Kiera crashed to the ground, her cheek puffing up like crazy.
"You little brat! You absolute disaster! You piece of garbage!" Victor was raging, yelling insults while kicking Kiera over and over. If she hadn't been his own granddaughter, he would've beaten her half to death right then and there.
If Kaia really lost her eyesight, even if every member of the Yates family died a hundred times over, it'd still never be enough to pay for it.
"Help! Please, stop! Grandpa, I swear I know I messed up! I'll kowtow and apologize to her right now, just please—Grandpa—" Kiera cried out, her voice breaking as she begged desperately.
But no matter how much Kiera begged, Victor didn't stop.
Zane wanted to jump in and help, but seeing Maxime and Grant looking like they were ready to eat Kiera alive, he knew stepping in would be a huge mistake.
He had never seen his father and uncles lose it like this before. If he was right, Kaia's true identity was way more than what met the eye.
"That's enough," Kaia said coolly. The moment the words left her lips, Victor froze right where he was.
"I'll have her get down and beg for your forgiveness right now," Victor growled, furious.
"She absolutely needs to bow her head," Kaia replied, her tone sharp. "But not to me." Her words left Victor stunned.
"Then... who is it?" Victor stammered, totally confused.
"Where's the men she brought with her earlier?" Kaia asked, her voice calm but commanding.
Victor thought Kaia wanted to punish them too. "I already had them all fired and locked up."
"Bring them here," Kaia ordered, not leaving any room for discussion.
"Alright," Victor replied immediately.
It wasn't long before the men who'd followed Kiera and laid hands on Kaia were all rounded up and brought in.
Kaia's expression was icy-cold. "Kiera, you're part of the military division, yet you basically mobilized soldiers for your own revenge against normal civilians, threatening them with various dismissals and punishments to force them to act. Now they're the ones suffering for it. So you don't owe me any apologies—you owe them. Bow a hundred times to every single one of them."
Hearing that, the men were moved to tears—each cried and felt deep remorse.
They actually laid hands on such a principled person — they deserve to be punished.
Victor was utterly in awe of Kaia—she was the one who'd been hurt here, yet she still thought of everyone else first. Even as the victim, she managed to put herself in other people's shoes.
"Go ahead, bow," Kaia ordered, never taking her eyes off Kiera.
