Kiera was left battered and unrecognizable, her rage boiling over inside—she wanted nothing more than to tear Kaia to shreds.
But with the tables turned, all she could do was grovel for mercy. She sank to her knees before those thugs, kowtowing over and over, desperate for forgiveness.
Judith tugged at Jameson's sleeve, leaning in and whispering, "Hey, have you noticed? Kaia actually seems pretty decent."
"Yeah, you're right. It just hit me why Dad was so hell-bent on getting her and Tobias together," Jameson nodded.
Griffin was close enough to overhear and couldn't help but cut in.
"Kaia is something else entirely. Just wait till you learn her true background—you'll see how amazing Grandpa is — and how lucky Tobias is to have land her."
Jameson and Judith both turned to Griffin at the exact same moment, suspicion written all over their faces.
"With that attitude, you're definitely hiding something from us, huh? Don't tell me you knew something all along—is that why you've suddenly changed how you act around Kaia?" Jameson pressed.
"Well... yeah, I know, but... I seriously can't tell you!" Griffin stammered, guilt written all over his face.
"Oh, so this kid thinks he's all grown up now? And even hiding stuff from us, huh?" Jameson snorted, grabbing Griffin by the ear and hauling him toward the door. "Sounds like someone needs a lesson!"
"Ow, ow! Cut it out, my ear's gonna fall off! Let go!" Griffin yelped.
"Then hurry up and spill it!" Jameson shot back.
Griffin looked totally helpless. "I really can't tell you, I swear!"
"You're just asking for a beating!" Jameson said, twisting Griffin's ear even harder.
"Ow! Seriously, my ear's gonna fall off! Dad, let go! I told you, I really can't say anything. Not even Tobias knows about this. Grandpa made it clear—unless Kaia wants to tell you herself, I'm not allowed to breathe a word. If I spill, he'll break my legs. All three of them!" Griffin yelped.
With Griffin swearing up and down, Jameson had no choice but to let go, though he was clearly begrudging it.
"Seriously, you can't tell us?" Jameson asked, half-exasperated.
"I swear, I really can't!" Griffin replied insistently.
"Fine, have it your way. We'll figure it out sooner or later," Jameson huffed, giving up for now.
Back at her hotel room, Kiera completely lost it—she trashed the place, sweeping everything off tables and counters, smashing whatever she could. She didn't stop until anything breakable lay shattered on the floor, her rage burning out of control.
Her agent, Hazel, was visibly shaken. "Calm down, Kiera. Your grandpa and the others are probably just doing this for the family's reputation—it's not like they're really trying to side with Kaia."
Kiera was fuming as she shot back, "You really think I don't know all that? But they didn't have to be so ruthless with me! Even if the whole thing blows up, Kaia's just some powerless nobody—what can she possibly do to the Yates family?"
"That's not exactly true. The Yates family stands for Wustriland's reputation. If this goes public and everyone finds out your family secretly sent military people to gang up on ordinary civilians, you know better than anyone how big the fallout could be," Hazel cautioned.
After hearing her agent's analysis, Kiera gradually cooled off.
"No wonder Grandpa and the others are going out of their way to shield Kaia. I mean, sure, she's got some support from the Whitfield family, but it's mainly because of Gavyn's connections. There's really no need for them to go so overboard," Kiera grumbled.
"You're just too angry to think clearly. Didn't I just say that you're smarter and more experienced than I am? If you calm down a bit, you'll understand the whole situation." Hazel soothed.
Kiera just loved hearing her agent talk—every word was music to her ears.
"Yeah, I can't afford to lose my cool over this. I'm not about to let it slide that easily, but I can't pull anything reckless or make a scene like last time—I won't risk exposing myself again," Kiera muttered, her tone icy with resolve.
