"Gideon, they're totally right. This place is crawling with wolves. Come over to my side—relax, 'm not interested in men," a girl said brightly.
Her words dropped, and the entire classroom froze in dead silence. Every guy and girl shot her the weirdest, most suspicious glances.
No matter how thick-skinned she was, she couldn't handle all those judgmental stares—so she quietly grabbed her book and buried her face behind it.
While everyone was still awkwardly quiet, Gideon hopped down from the podium and strode straight over to Kaia, plopping himself down beside her.
The classroom went crazy.
"Why does he get to sit there?" someone protested.
"For real!" another chimed in.
Penny stood up and retorted, "Obviously, because our Kaia is the prettiest one here!"
As much as everyone wanted to argue, nobody could deny it. They all just had to accept the facts, whether they liked it or not.
Kaia turned to Gideon and teased, "Are you here to report?"
Gideon shot up from his seat and proclaimed, "Yep! I'm on guard duty! I won't let a single hair on your head get hurt!"
The classroom fell into silence.
It was so quiet one could hear a pin drop.
Everyone just sat there like statues, frozen, staring blankly at Kaia and Gideon.
Even Kaia herself was caught off guard by Gideon's sudden move.
She'd only greeted him out of politeness, never expecting him to react so strongly.
The teacher took a long time to recover from the brain freeze.
"Gideon, why don't you sit down?" the teahcher said.
Gideon ignored the teacher completely, his eyes glued to Kaia.
He was a total legend in his squad—a genius kid nobody could rein in. Seriously, only Joel ever got him to listen.
A few days ago, Joel called, asking him to personally protect someone.
At the time, he refused without hesitation—he had no intention of guarding those big-shot capitalists.
However, when Joel told him that the person to protect was Kaia, he immediately packed his things and rushed over from the border area without stopping.

"Joel had to head home for something, you already know about that. He sent Gideon over to replace him for now," Kaia explained.
"Oh, I get it now!" Penny nodded, then glanced over at Gideon.
His face was fair and clean, looking like an innocent little bunny. He seemed just a bit over 5 feet 7 inches tall, and his whole vibe was that of a junior follower.
Penny leaned in close to Kaia and whispered, "He looks harmless enough. Are you sure he can actually protect you?"
"Careful, don't let him overhear that. Joel gave me the rundown on him. Sure, he looks all sweet and innocent, but in the squad? He's their wildcard, always stirring up trouble and itching for a fight. No one can rein him in except Joel. "
"Not only that, he once trained with a team in the tropical rainforest for a wilderness survival exercise—no food or water brought along, just living out there for two or three months. The others had long since come out, most of them covered in cuts and bruises. But him? He came out full of energy, like the rainforest was his own home," Kaia said slowly, recounting the story.
