Penny's eyes went wide. "Swear to God, Kaia, if I didn't hear this from you, I'd never buy it in a million years!"
Before they knew it, they'd reached the cafeteria.
Just as they were about to sit down, Zion and Larry walked over with trays in hand.
Three handsome guys, each with their own vibe, all sitting around Kaia. Every girl in the place was so distracted, they couldn't even eat.
"I really don't get it! Kaia is just a bit good-looking, but her character is terrible! Larry and Zion don't seem like the kind of people who'd be so shallow!" one girl muttered.
"Exactly! I bet Kaia's got some sneaky tactics up her sleeve to fool them," another chimed in.
Just then, a guy nervously said, "If Larry and Zion aren't shallow, maybe Kaia's character isn't as terrible as the rumors make her out to be?"
As soon as the guy finished speaking, he was almost drowned by a spray of spit from all the girls.
"Let me guess, you're sticking up for her just because she's easy on the eyes?" one girl snapped.
"Right? Typical guy move—you all just judge with your eyes and not your brains," another snarked.
"You really think Larry and Zion are as shallow as you? Please. Kaia's just a schemer, that's all. Just wait, she's bound to slip up someday and show her sly face. When that happens, everyone will turn on her in a heartbeat," a third girl scoffed.
The guy could only gape, totally lost for words.
He just gave his opinion a little, and he was only following their logic when he said that one sentence. Was it really necessary for everyone to gang up on him?
After school, Gideon stuck to Kaia like glue all the way back to Pioneer Retreat.
When they got home, they found Tobias in the kitchen, apron on, making dinner.
Kaia walked over, puzzled. "I thought Devin said you'd be so busy today."
Tobias gave her a small smile. "You must've gotten it wrong. I'm not busy at all today."
His smile was oddly mysterious, and his gaze flicked past her, clearly settling on someone standing just behind.
Kaia turned around to see Gideon.
'Oh... I get it now,' she thought.
"Who's this?" Tobias had already received reports from the spies he placed at Morganburg University. So, he completed all his tasks at five times his usual speed, just to free himself up and rush here.
Kaia gave him a sly grin. "Oh please, with your skills, haven't you already figured it out?"
"You know me too well, honey," Tobias replied, sticking to Kaia's side as clingy as ever.
As soon as he sat down, he felt a razor-sharp, suspicious gaze fixed right on him.
Gideon narrowed his eyes at Tobias, totally on edge—clearly ready to step in if Tobias made even one wrong move towards Kaia.
Tobias's eyes went cold. 'I'm the one in charge here. Not kicking you out is already me being nice. And yet you act so arrogant? Keep it up and see what happens.'
"Since when was I your girlfriend?" Kaia retorted, rolling her eyes in disbelief. This guy had no shame—even with other people watching.
She moved to shove Tobias away.
But Tobias just grabbed her wrist, stopping her with one swift move.
"I need to talk to you. Come with me," Tobias said, his tone brooking no argument.
"Not going anywhere. Just spit it out right here," Kaia shot back.
Tobias pressed his lips together, then, without caring whether Kaia wanted to or not, just dragged her upstairs, ignoring any protest.
"Tobias, are you seriously doing this again? Let go of me!" Kaia snapped.
"Nope," Tobias replied stubbornly.
"Hey! If you don't let go, I swear I'm not gonna—" Kaia snapped.
Before she could even finish her sentence, Kaia felt a sudden gust of wind whip past her from behind.
She didn't even have to guess—she knew exactly who had just charged up behind her.
