Kaia just stood there, watching him.
Her reaction only made Tobias feel totally defeated.
He'd even gone so far as to undo a few buttons on his shirt, leaving it hanging open—usually this trick worked like magic on girls. So why was Kaia still totally unfazed?
'Maybe I'm just not doing enough?' Tobias thought to himself.
'Guess I'll have to step it up,'
"If you even think about stripping, I'm calling Gideon to toss you out," Kaia shot back.
"He's passed out like a log. No way he's coming," Tobias replied, grinning.
Kaia glanced at the window—sure enough, it was unlocked. The guy must've climbed in from outside.
But sneaking in through a window definitely made a noise. Even with the shower on, she'd picked up the faintest sound of someone moving around. There's no way someone as sharp as Gideon, who lives on the edge of danger, would miss something suspicious like that.
"What did you do to Gideon?" Kaia demanded.
"Nothing much. Just lit some sleep-inducing incense in his room," Tobias replied with a sly grin.
Kaia was speechless.
"Come on, get over here," Tobias beckoned, giving her that playful, come-hither look.
Kaia's eyes sparkled with mischief. "Sure thing."
After saying that, she walked toward Tobias.
Seeing Kaia standing there, draped in nothing but a towel, every cell in Tobias's body was practically screaming at him, daring him to cross the line.
"Close your eyes," Kaia said, her eyes smiling like little crescents, mischief written all over her face.
Tobias's eyes instantly brightened. "Are you planning to kiss me? Is it because you're getting shy with me watching?"
"Obviously! I'm just a girl, after all. Come on, eyes shut—or else I might just change my mind," Kaia teased.
No sooner had she said that than Tobias snapped his eyes shut.
Kaia reached out and tapped the spot at the back of his neck.
The next second, Tobias collapsed onto the bed.
"This'll help you sleep too," Kaia whispered in his ear.
Kaia glanced at the knocked-out Tobias, thought it over for a second, then threw a makeshift bed on the floor and just tossed him onto it.
Next morning, as soon as Kaia opened her eyes, she found herself staring right into Tobias's intensely bitter, wounded gaze.
"You're really heartless, letting me sleep on the floor all by myself." Tobias griped.
"I gave you a blanket, didn't I? And anyway, what made you act so recklessly? You're the head of the family, yet you're climbing through windows. Aren't you afraid your own people will laugh at you if they find out?" Kaia shot back.
"Why would I care? My grandpa, back when he was young, used to get kicked out of his room by my grandma all the time. If he wanted back in, he had to kneel on a durian. He was the head of the family, too, and let me tell you, he wasn't embarrassed one bit."
"He'd brag at family gatherings about being whipped, even said a real man has to listen to his wife to keep the family running smooth. He told all of us to learn from him," Tobias replied, totally unconcerned.
Clearly, Tobias's shamelessness was practically a Moreno family tradition—no matter how hard Kaia tried, she'd never change him. She'd be better off saving her breath before he drove her completely crazy.
Classes were supposed to start today, but Kaia couldn't be bothered with all that. Instead, she just made her way over to the research institute.
She had to admit, being principal really came with benefits—no need to ask for leave, no one to hassle her. If Kaia didn't want to show up at school, she could skip whenever she felt like it.
Kaia was buried in her work at the institute when Zion came over with the most bizarre look on his face.
