"I've got a favor to ask," Kaia said.
"Kaia, how can you be so formal with me? Just spit it out—what do you need?" Abdullah laughed.
"The Everest Mall is your family's, right?" Kaia asked.
"Yeah, what's up?" Abdullah replied.
Kaia told Abdullah everything that had just happened.
Abdullah exploded with anger as he listened.
"Emily is out of her mind! Hang tight, I'm coming over right now!" Abdullah snapped.
"You really don't have to run over here. A phone call would do," Kaia said, not wanting to trouble Abdullah.
"No way! You're my mentor—you helped me reunite with my missing brother. No chance I'm letting those branch family idiots mess with you on my turf!" Abdullah shot back.
"Alright then, it's up to you," Kaia said.
More than twenty minutes had passed.
Emily walked over arrogantly, her smirk never leaving her face. "Less than three minutes to go, and there's still no sign of a miracle. Kaia, everyone's got their phones out, and some are even live-streaming this."
"Weren't you so sure that we'd all be begging for you to come back within half an hour? Me, in particular? Well, look at me—standing right here, totally fine. Seems like there's nothing you can do to me, huh?"
Seeing Kaia stay quiet, Emily didn't rush things. She whipped out her phone, pointing it straight at Kaia.
"See? Plenty of people in the live chat are watching just for laughs. Oh, and someone said you're just pretending to be tough — you should sneak away quietly while no one's looking."
"Another person reminded you: only one minute and forty-three seconds left."
"Oh, and someone's saying your skin is thick as hell—no wonder you're shameless enough to try and hook up with Gavyn," Emily sneered.
Just as Emily was reading those nasty online comments one after another, a furious shout rang out behind her.
"Emily Swanson, you've got some nerve! You actually kicked my mentor out? And insulted her on top of that? Are you looking for trouble?" Abdullah roared.
Emily spun around at the familiar voice, and just as she caught sight of Abdullah's rage-filled face, he slapped her, knocking her straight to the floor.
Everyone at the scene froze, and the livestream chat filled up with question marks.
Emily lay on the ground, clutching her face in shock and humiliation, and blurted out the question that was on everyone's minds.
"Mentor? Mr. Swanson, you're saying she's your mentor? What kind of mentor?" Emily stammered, bewildered.
"This is between me and her. You have no right to interfere. Let me ask you—who gave you the nerve to throw out the Swanson family's greatest benefactor from the mall?"
He was furious—not just because of Kaia, but also because on his way over, he'd caught Tobias calling him after watching the livestream, demanding he handle things.
"Great benefactor? What great benefactor?" Emily gasped, just as her family's car pulled up. Her parents rushed over, their faces thunderous, and started slapping her right there in front of everyone.
They kept slapping her while shouting furiously, not holding back at all.
"You reckless idiot! How dare you mess with the Swanson family's greatest benefactor? Are you just asking to get yourself killed? If you're so eager to die, go jump off a bridge yourself—don't drag the whole family into this!" her father barked.
"If it weren't for Miss Bennett, the patriarch's youngest son would still be lost out there! The main family's head just said—if we don't come up with a proper settlement today, our entire branch is getting kicked out for good!" her mother shrieked.
Hearing this, Emily finally understood the gravity of the situation, and pure dread surged through her.
Thinking back to everything that had just happened, it suddenly all clicked. No wonder Kaia had never lost her cool, certain from the start they'd be the ones begging her for forgiveness.
Emily's father looked at Kaia, his face miserable and pleading. "Miss Bennett, it's all our daughter's fault, from beginning to end. However you want her handled—whether it's a scolding or something harsher—just say the word, we're at your mercy."
"Kaia, how can you be so formal with me? Just spit it out—what do you need?" Abdullah laughed.
