As soon as Kaia got to the entrance, she caught sight of a guy who looked really familiar—she was pretty sure she'd seen him somewhere before.
"Hey, isn't that Kaia?" the guy beside him said, nudging Sean.
Sean spun around the moment he heard her name, and when he saw it really was her, his eyes suddenly lit up.
"Guess it really is her."
Kent nudged Sean, teasing, "You see how she's staring at you? Maybe she's wishing she hadn't turned you down in high school—bet she'd love to be with you now."
Sean patted his Range Rover with a smirk. "I never told her back then I was rich. Maybe she's just into the car."
"Honestly, that's pretty normal. What girl doesn't like a guy with cash? Back in high school you were way too pure, thinking you could win a beauty with just your feelings. If you'd straight up given her a big diamond ring, she'd probably have jumped into your arms," Kent laughed.
"True enough," Sean agreed, nodding.
"Let's head over."
Sean walked up and called out to her.
"Hey Kaia, it's been ages."
Kaia looked at him, a bit confused. "Sorry, who are you? Did we meet before?"
Sean and Kent exchanged glances—no way Kaia didn't recognize them, she must be playing hard to get.
Of course, a girl like her would want to stay a little reserved, and they were all too happy to play along.
"Come on, Kaia, you don't remember us? We were your high school classmates, from the next class over. I'm Sean, and this is Kent, my desk mate," Sean explained.
"Sean..." Kaia muttered under her breath, then suddenly the memory snapped into place—he was that guy from the class next door who'd confessed to her on graduation day.
As for Zane, she didn't remember him at all.
"Are you guys here for Collin's art show too?" Kaia asked.
"Yeah! My dad's a huge fan of Collin, but he couldn't make it today, so he sent me to snap a bunch of photos for him," Sean replied.
Sean figured Kaia was probably hoping to get inside too.
After all, places like this don't just let anyone in. "You got an invite?"
"Honestly, I don't," Kaia admitted.
Before coming, Samantha had promised to meet her at the entrance herself, but she was nowhere to be seen.
Hearing Kaia's answer, Sean felt smug—just as he suspected, she was trying to cozy up to him.
"No problem, just come in with us! My invite covers two guests anyway," Sean said with a wink.
"Are you sure that's alright?" Kaia asked, a little hesitant.
"Absolutely. Come on, let's get inside," Sean replied, already heading for the entrance.
Just as Kaia stepped inside with Sean, Samantha rushed out of the restroom.
'Why hasn't Kaia arrived yet?' Samantha muttered to herself, feeling a bit anxious.
'Better give her a call,' she thought, taking out her phone.
She called several times, but no one picked up.
'Guess I'll just wait a bit longer,' Samantha thought.
Sean led Kaia inside, talking her ear off the whole way.
"Bet you've never set foot in a place this upscale before, huh?" he said with a self-satisfied little smirk as he glanced around.
"See over there? They've got imported fruit and drinks—crazy expensive stuff. Normally, it'd cost you an arm and a leg just to taste it. Want me to snag some for you?" he offered, clearly showing off.
Kaia squirmed inwardly at how pushy Sean was getting with his "friendly" vibe.
"No need, I'm good," Kaia shot back, not interested at all.
"Same here. Let's just stick to the paintings. See this one? Crazy, right? They say it's worth several million dollars. Honestly, that's about what my whole family pulls in for a year," Sean boasted, eyes practically shining like he wanted Kaia to be impressed.
Sean had barely finished before catching Kent sneaking him a sly thumbs-up.
