Collin let out a cold snort. "I was going to pretend you weren't even here, but you just had to shamelessly keep pestering me, didn't you!"
"I—" Melvin began, but Collin cut him off without mercy.
"Your Bennett family already kicked Miss Bennett out. What makes you think you're still worthy of talking to me?" Collin snapped.
Collin was no longer young — steady and composed by nature, with a gentle temperament. Normally, unless he was truly enraged, he would never lose his temper the way he just did.
Melvin's jaw dropped. For a moment, his mind went totally blank.
'Wait… is Collin really pissed at me because of Kaia?' Melvin thought, completely stunned.
"Mr. Crawford, you've been deceived by Kaia! She only knows a few clumsy tricks of martial art — she's nowhere near a master's level!"
"Totally!" Emma cut in, egging him on. "Kaia lived with our family for years. We know all her tricks. If she really could do martial art at a master's level, trust me, she wouldn't have shut up about it around us—she'd be bragging day and night!"
Collin's voice was icy. "She doesn't show off because she's humble. Not every young person needs to make a big deal out of their talent, you know? Geniuses can be proud, sure—but the real prodigies? They keep it low-key. Take Dr. Bennett. She's young, too, but she never shows her true face in public or on camera. Why? Because she's humble!"
"B-But Mr. Crawford, Kaia is just some nobody—a minor character at best! How can you compare her to someone as outstanding as Dr. Bennett? Isn't that disrespectful to Dr. Bennett?" Melvin sputtered, almost in disbelief.
"Disrespect Dr. Bennett?" Collin let out a hearty laugh. "If Dr. Bennett were here and saw Kaia's real skills, she'd be the first to give her a thumbs-up and sing her praises!"
The noise over there was loud, and Kaia had already looked over like everyone else.
When she heard Collin's comment, Kaia snorted and shook her head, amusement flickering in her eyes.
She would never give herself a thumbs-up and praise herself.
Melvin and Emma were totally floored—they never would've guessed Collin would think so highly of Kaia.
But they knew perfectly well that aside from having a bit of medical skill by chance, Kaia really wasn't good at anything else.
"Let me give you a piece of advice—stay away from me and quit harassing me. If you don't, don't blame me when I stop playing nice and have someone kick you out!"
With that harsh warning, Collin stormed off, his face dark with anger.
Their faces twisted with embarrassment as Melvin and Emma looked over at Kaia, a mix of resentment and confusion in their eyes.
Meanwhile, the crowd was full of murmurs and pointing fingers, some even shouting to have Melvin and Emma tossed out just to defend Collin's honor.
No matter how thick-skinned they were, Melvin and Emma just couldn't handle all that ridicule. In the end, they had no choice but to slink away in shame.
"Why'd you come over here?" Sean called out, hurrying after her.
"Just grab something to eat," Kaia said as she poured herself a glass of juice.
Sean and Kent just smirked at that.
You just said you didn't want any. If you haven't seen much of the world, just admit it — if you've never had good food, say so. No one's going to laugh at you.' they thought.
Kent leaned over and muttered to Sean, "Man, girls like her are so materialistic but just can't swallow their pride. No offense, but with your background, you could date any woman you want. Seriously, I think you should drop her."
"Please, I could get almost any girl out there—but i haven't seen someone as stunning as her in my circle. Have you ever come across anyone hotter, or with a better body?"
Kent was at a total loss for words.
Thinking it over carefully, he'd seen plenty of beautiful women, but someone as stunning as Kaia — truly none.
Kaia was sipping her juice when she caught sight of Collin heading her way out of the corner of her eye.
