The moment Collin saw the tabby cat in the painting, his body jolted. He quickly put on his reading glasses, pulled out a magnifying glass, and began examining it closely.
Some people were baffled by Collin's reaction.
"What's Mr. Crawford even doing?" Sean frowned, leaning in for a better look.
Samantha rolled her eyes. "Seriously? You don't even get what's up with this painting? How did you manage to sneak in here?"
"I—" Sean stammered, but with Samantha's status, he didn't dare argue back.
"Miss Crawford, what's the deal with this painting?" Sean asked, trying to sound respectful.
Samantha didn't really want to say anything, but for Kaia's sake, she decided to spill.
"If you know my grandpa's paintings, don't tell me you haven't heard of the landscape painter who's even more famous than him," she said, raising an eyebrow.
Sean racked his brain, and suddenly his eyes nearly popped out.
"Wait, you mean—that legendary master who loved painting tabby cats, Faye Unity?" Gideon gawked.
"Yep, that's him," Samantha confirmed.
"Who the heck is Faye Unity anyway?"
Kent, who knew absolutely nothing about landscape painting, was baffled, but his curiosity was through the roof.
Sean jumped in with an explanation. "He is basically a legend in the landscape painting world. Seventeen years ago, he popped up out of nowhere—a tabby cat painting of his sent every top artist into a frenzy, and later, at auction, just that one painting went for a staggering 300 million dollars!"
Kent couldn't help a gasp, eyes going wide.
"300 million dollars? Seriously? That's insane! Is that really just a painting?" he blurted out.
Kaia thought back and said, "I was pretty young at the time, but I remember it went for something like 400 million dollars."
Sean and the others immediately stared at her. "How do you know that so exactly?"
Kaia didn't answer.
Everyone who actually knew anything about art crowded around the tabby cat painting, eyes glued to it.
"It seems to be an original." someone murmured.
"Come on, you clearly don't get it. It's not 'looks like'—it's absolutely the real thing. Just look at the painting—the cat looks almost alive, those eyes are so full of spirit. And the stripes, each one is distinct and even seems to move with the cat's posture. No amateur could ever pull this off," another person scoffed.
"Jonathan brought a painting by Ms. Unity here? Looks like he's trying to crash Collin's event," someone whispered.
Jonathan flashed a crafty smile, stroking his beard. "So, Collin, what do you think? Is this an authentic Ms. Unity original or what?"
"That's just outrageous!" Samantha huffed, her cheeks going full puffball. "He actually brings out Ms. Unity's work just to show up my grandpa. Yeah, my grandpa's awesome, but Ms. Unity is on another level—everyone calls her the fairy of painting nowadays! No way a regular human can compete with someone like her."
Kaia couldn't stop herself from making a face. "You're giving her way too much credit. She's just human, after all."
"No, I'm not exaggerating! She's seriously that epic! My grandpa told me once he managed to meet her, back when she was just three—a total prodigy!" Samantha's eyes practically shone with adoration as she spoke.
Seant and Kent were both absolutely stunned—this was next-level shock.
'A painting fairy at just three years old? And her artwork was already pulling in like 300 million dollars?' Sean couldn't help but think, 'Man, what were we doing at three? Probably squishing mud pies.'
Seeing Collin still silent, Jonathan's smug grin only grew wider.
"Collin, I spent 300 million dollars on this painting. It's definitely the real thing, so you can stop scrutinizing it now. Honestly, you might as well just shut down your art show altogether," Jonathan said, his voice oozing arrogance.
Collin's face was turning pale with anger, but just then, a clear, crisp voice rang out.
"This painting is fake," Kaia said, her tone calm and unwavering.
