'Who? Who's talking? Which reckless junior dared to behave so presumptuously right in front of the two giants of the art world?' Everyone was puzzled, glancing at each other in confusion, trying to find out who that person was.
In the crowd, Sean and Kent turned ashen. In perfect unspoken agreement, they both stepped back, trying to keep as much distance as possible from Kaia.
That was right. Kaia was the one who spoke just now. They truly didn't expect Kaia to have spoken so recklessly in an event full of prominent figures. 'We must keep a distance from her. We don't know her; we absolutely can't afford to get dragged down by her,' they thought.
Even Sean, with tens of millions of net worth, who could flaunt wherever he went, was utterly insignificant, but just an ant among the giants on such an occasion.
"Who said my painting is a fake?" Jonathan's face darkened, his sharp gaze sweeping across the crowd. When his gaze landed on Sean and Kent, the two trembled in fear.
"It...It's her!" Sean stammered, pointing at Kaia.
"You?" Jonathan's eyes, filled with menace, turned toward Kaia. To his surprise, the young girl meeting his gaze didn't show the slightest hint of fear.
'Who the hell is this girl?' Jonathan couldn't help but wonder.
Before he could probe deeper, out of the corner of his eye, he saw Collin walk right up to Kaia and greet her with a respectful nod.
"Miss Bennett, why didn't you give me a heads up before coming? I would've welcomed you personally," Collin said. That scene left almost everyone in the room with their jaws on the floor, particularly Sean and Kent.
They could hardly believe it — a figure so powerful that even Collin couldn't hope to come close was actually bowing respectfully to their former high school classmate.
Am I dreaming?' the two thought, reaching out and pinching each other's thighs at the same time. 'Damn! That really fucking hurts!'
Kaia nodded and said, "Mr. Crawford, there's no need for that."
"You deserve it! You're Mr. Stone's last apprentice, and your skill in martial arts has reached a state of perfection. Honestly, if you hadn't always kept such a low profile, people all over the world would've known your name now," Collin added, clearly in awe of her.
As soon as Collin said that, everyone present was once again utterly stunned. "Oh my god! Did I hear that right? This young girl is actually Mr. Stone's last apprentice!" someone exclaimed.
"And just now, Mr. Crawford said her martial arts mastery has reached a state of perfection. Is that for real? How old is she?" another person sputtered, freaking out.
"He shouldn't be lying. After all, it was Mr. Crawford who said it. And didn't you see just now? Mr. Crawford actually addressed her as Miss Benette, and he even bowed to her!" someone said.
Both Sean and Kent gaped wide-eyed in perfect unison, staring straight at Kaai. Words of praise echoed in their ears; their minds completely froze, stuck in a total daze.
Jonathan walked over, glanced at Kaai, smiled, and said, "So, you're Mr. Stone's disciple? Impressive. Judging by how young you are, he must have taken you in quite recently, right? No matter how skilled you are in martial arts, this is an art exhibition — not your area of expertise. Did you say my painting is a fake?"
"Yes, that's right," Kaia replied, nodding.
"Well, I'm really curious. Everyone here, even Collin, didn't see anything wrong with this painting. What makes you so certain it isn't genuine?" Jonathan challenged, eyebrow raised.
