Kaia remained calm, her voice steady as she said, "It's no surprise that none of you can tell. After all, Faye's paintings are rare. Since you don't have the genuine piece, you just haven't researched enough."Faye Evans
"Is that so?" Jonathan asked, raising an eyebrow. "So, judging by your tone of voice, you've got a genuine piece?"
"Sort of," Kaia replied casually.
Her words set off an uproar among the crowd. "She said she has it? If it's true, wouldn't that make her worth at least several billions?" someone commented.
When Sean heard the words, he recalled how he had flaunted his tens of millions in front of Kaai earlier, and instantly felt like a clown. Kent didn't look any better; he had just been badmouthing Kaai nonstop, full of scorn and disdain for her. Now, it seemed the real clown was himself.
"You have it? You really have it?" Jonathan sputtered, his voice trembling with disbelief. Collin locked his gaze on Kaia, his eyes shining with anticipation, as there were only a handful of Faye's works out in the market, and just two had appeared at auction.
One of the paintings had been bought by a wealthy foreign businessman, and another by the Moreno family, the wealthiest family in Morganburg. When Kaai said she had a painting by Faye, he was truly tempted.
Kaia didn't continue with that topic. She walked up to the displayed painting, pointed at the tiger's stripes, and said, "The color of this patch of fur is not right."
"What do you mean?" Jonathan narrowed his eyes and asked.
"The cat's stripes are off," Kaia replied.
"How is it off?" Quinn pressed.
"These stripes here are light. They should be darker," Kaia pointed out. The tabby cat that Kaia raised in her hometown had grown up with her, so she remembered every detail of it vividly.
Jonathan sneered and said, "Are we supposed to take your word for it? I think you're just talking nonsense to help Collin out of a tight spot."
Collin's brow furrowed tight. 'Could Kaia really be making all this up just for my sake?' he thought.
"Miss Bennett, I appreciate your help, but honestly, this painting just doesn't seem..." Collin said.
"What, you don't believe me?" Kaia asked calmly.
Seeing Kaia looking so confident, Collin couldn't help but think Kaia knew about Faya's paintings, and all that she said was true.
"All right, Miss Bennett, this has nothing to do with you. Please leave," Jonathan said, looking at Kaia with a mocking smirk tugging at the corner of his lips.
Kaia looked at Jonathan, her expression blank, and said, "It's very simple. There are pictures online; just look them up and compare, and you'll know."
"Miss Bennett, I got it!" Samantha took out her phone and linked it up to the big screen. "Wow, it really seems so! The area around the tabby's neck is indeed a bit different from the one Ms. Unity painted. If you didn't point it out, it would be difficult to notice."
Jonathan's expression changed, but it was just for a moment. He quickly masked it again. "The picture you found online might not be genuine. The lighting during photography might have caused some distortion," he said.
"You're shameless!" Samantha shouted, pointing her finger at Jonathan.
"Samantha, I'm your senior. You can't talk to me like this. People might doubt your upbringing!" Jonathan sneered and said.
"You—you—you old—" Samantha didn't even finish cursing before Kaia stopped her.
Kaia looked at Jonathan, her expression slightly cold. "So what you mean is, you'll only admit this painting is a fake if you see the genuine piece with your own eyes?" she asked.
