"That's right," Jonathan said adamantly. He firmly believed that his painting was genuine. After all, he had spent several billion dollars on it. There was just no way he could have made a mistake.
"Alright then. I'll bring the real painting," Kaia said calmly.
Her words caused an uproar again. Samantha swallowed hard and said, "Miss Benette, you brought Ms Unity's painting with you?
"No, but someone else did," Kaia said.
Samantha's eyes widened. "Who's that?"
"The Moreno family, the wealthiest family in Morganburg," Kaia said.
Just as Kaia said that, Jonathan couldn't help but laugh out loud, saying, "Yes, the Moreno family does have it. But do you think they'll bring it over just because you ask? Who do you think you are?"
The moment Jonathan had just finished speaking, someone at the door shouted, "The Moreno family has arrived!"
'The Moreno family? Seriously?' the crowd gasped, doubting.
Everyone turned their heads toward the door, and sure enough, Devin walked in, escorted by a dozen Moreno family's elite bodyguards.
"I recognize those badges on their uniforms. They're indeed the elite bodyguards from the Moreno family," someone said in awe.
"I can vouch for that, too! The guy in the lead is always next to the patriarch of the Moreno family. He always attends the big events on behalf of the patriarch," another person added eagerly.
Kent's eyes widened as he stared at Devin. "Even if the Moreno family's patriarch didn't show up, just being near his top guy feels unreal! Imagine telling my buddies that I met the patriarch's right-hand man—they'll totally flip!" he said.
"That's right! That's someone who works for the wealthiest person in Morganburg. I must take a photo," Sean muttered, sneaking out his phone. However, before he could snap it, he saw Devin stride right over to Kaia and bow deeply with respect.
"Miss Bennett, Mr. Moreno asked me to bring the painting over," Devin said.
Sean was stunned. His hand trembled, and his phone slipped and hit the ground with a sharp smack. Not just him, Kent, along with everyone else present, seemed frozen in disbelief.
Kaia raised her brows in surprise as she glanced at the painting in Devin's hands. "How did he know I needed this?" she asked.
Devin chuckled and said, "You're as precious as Mr. Moreno's life. Of course, he'd always be watching out for you."
Kaia couldn't help but smirk at that answer. 'Were these two both born with silver tongues or something? They really know the right thing to say at the right time,' she thought.
'He makes tailing someone sound so normal—and even manages to butter me up with a shameless compliment at the same time.' Thinking of this, Kaia reached out and gave Devin a quick pat on the shoulder.
"Look at you, always crushing it. Pretty sure another bonus is headed your way when you get back," she said jokingly.
Devin flashed a huge grin, his teeth gleaming. "It wouldn't happen without you, Miss Bennett," he said. Kaia was at a loss for words.
"Show the painting," Kaia instructed.
"Yes, Miss Bennett," Devin responded and immediately signaled for his men to unfurl the painting.
Actually, when Devin stepped forward to greet Kaia, Jonathan already knew he had been fooled. 'No wonder Kaia could call out my painting a fake. She's obviously close with the patriarch of the Moreno family and must have seen Ms. Unity's works all the time. Otherwise, how would she know mine is a fake?' Jonathan thought.
When the painting was displayed, everyone started comparing it according to Kaia's hints. Sure enough, the genuine and the fake had minimal differences that literally needed a microscope and patience to catch them.
'How did Kaia even spot that?' everyone wondered.
After the exhibition wrapped up, Collin walked Kaia out, smiling. "Miss Bennett, I'm really curious about something. Please clear it up for me," he said.
"Feel free to ask," Kaia replied.
