Kaia stared blankly at Kiera. "You'd better stay away from me. Last time, I let it go out of respect for your three grandpas. But if you keep hovering around me and pushing my buttons, don't blame me when I snap," she said.
"Who do you think you are? Do you really think my grandfather and the others were protecting you? Last time, it was only because I mobilized people from the Military Department, and those higher-ups found out.
"That kind of thing can be a big deal or a small matter. My grandfather punished me harshly only to protect the Yates family's reputation and to keep public opinion under control," Kiera retorted.
Kaia shrugged and said, "Think whatever you want; I couldn't care less. Like I said, stay away from me, or don't expect me to keep showing respect to your three grandpas."
With that, Kaia didn't waste a second. She brushed right past Kiera, knocking her back a few steps consecutively.
Kaia turned around and gave Kiera a look of contempt. "They say you're some golden girl, yet your stance is so weak. Instead of wasting time here fighting over jealousy with me, you'd be better off spending it on some actual training," she said.
Damn it!' Kiera clenched her fists, so close to shouting. Seeing Kaia walk farther away, she quickly hurried after her. "Do you dare to compete with me?" she challenged. As if she didn't hear a word, Kaia just kept on walking.
"So you don't dare to compete with me, huh? I actually thought you had some skill, but it turns out you're just a coward hiding in your shell!" Kiera jeered.
That was enough to make Kaia stop in her tracks. "I know you're trying to provoke me. Since you're so eager, as a guest at your birthday party, I suppose I should keep the birthday girl company and play along to the end," Kaia said.
Kiera's lips curved in a triumphant smile, her eyes sparkling with unshakable confidence. Soon, Kaia and Kiera made their way to the shooting range.
To embarrass Kaia in front of the crowd, Kiera called in everyone she could, including Tobias and Gavyn.
Gavyn looked tremendously anxious. "Man, what do we do? Kaia's never practiced shooting before!" he said.
"How do you know that?" Tobias asked.
"Well, we always tried to get her to come to the range with us, but she refused all the time. This means she's just not good at it! This time, Kaia's really acting on a whim!
"And honestly—even as a guy, I must admit, Kiera's shooting skills are top-tier. Seriously, there's nobody her age who can match her," Gavyn said, shaking his head.
"Not necessarily. Kiera's just never gone up against my Kaia," Tobias said, sounding absolutely confident.
Gavyn was stunned. "Where on earth does your ridiculous confidence come from?" he asked.
"Because she's Kaia." When Tobias said this, his deep, unwavering gaze was fixed on Kaia. Then he added, "Because she's my woman." Gavyn didn't think much of the first part—but when he heard the second, he felt like puking.
"You're totally love-brained right now—snap out of it. Think of something! If Kaia loses later, how are we going to smooth things over for her?" Gavyn grew more anxious as he spoke.
"From what I know about Kiera, once she wins, she's definitely going to keep mocking Kaia nonstop until she can't show her face anymore," he added.
Kiera picked up the rifle, shot Kaia a smug look, and then rattled off ten quick shots at the target. Every single shot hit dead center.
"Ten shots, ten bullseyes! Awesome, Kiera, you're incredible! We totally admire you!" Those young ladies and rich kids who usually flattered Kiera were now desperately cheering for Kiera.
When news of this reached Victor and the others, Grant frowned deeply and said, "Victor, that troublemaking girl Kiera is at it again! I'm going over to teach her a lesson."
